Started last night C4 9pm.
I thought it was good.
Excellent performances from Robbie Coltrane, Julie Walters & Tim McInnerny.

I just hope it's not going to be one of those where you never find out and they leave it hanging!
I don't think he did it but he is not a nice character. He's a mysogynist and has issues with women which is what has screwed up his DD.
Brilliant acting - especially Julie Walters when she was giving her DD a talking to in the bedroom.

Fedupofallthemud · 27/09/2016 22:14

I keep missing parts - who's house did she drive into?

domesticslattern · 27/09/2016 22:21

The babysitter's house FedUp

I agree about the doorbell!!

gingina · 27/09/2016 22:22

Was it the babysitters house?

Fedupofallthemud · 27/09/2016 22:24

Ah ok. I missed the start, took me a while to work out what who the young Scottish guy was supposed to be too!!

Lottapianos · 27/09/2016 22:24

I have no clue whether he's guilty or not. Very unpleasant and selfish character though

Poor Dee, she's so incredibly sad and angry

Fedupofallthemud · 27/09/2016 22:25

Certainly the whole thing is very atmospheric and uncomfortable to watch

Helpisathand13 · 27/09/2016 23:01

I watched a bit later than shown only just finished it. I'm liking!

WhenSheWasBadSheWasHorrid · 27/09/2016 23:30

Poor Dee, I'm not actually sure which of her parents screwed her up worse.
I'll bet there's a religious element in her upbringing that pops up.

Lottapianos · 28/09/2016 07:59

I agree When. Her mother really showed how she feels about her last night. Giving her a big roll of money to behave and make the evening a nice one for her father - at her own flipping birthday party! The birthday song and speech made me shudder

It's a really disturbing program, really gets under your skin

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 28/09/2016 11:36

scary doorbell not very subtle, no ...

whaaaaat · 28/09/2016 12:13

How disturbing are we talking? I watched the first episode, but recorded last night's.

I'm a little bit sensitive I should add.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 28/09/2016 12:22

It's really dark and disturbing in all kinds of ways imo, but not graphic (yet).

whaaaaat · 28/09/2016 12:31

Oh god. Great.

whaaaaat · 28/09/2016 12:31

Can you give me an example?

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 28/09/2016 12:54

Lots of unsettling insinuation, people being really shady and multi layered and with hidden agendas, mental illness, bleakness, nastiness.

Lottapianos · 28/09/2016 13:11

Very good description Vanellope! There's a constant sense of dread throughout each episode, a feeling that everything you see and hear could be interpreted in different ways. Dee (the daughter) is extremely disturbed and very vulnerable but we're not entirely sure why yet

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 28/09/2016 13:50

Does anyone know how many parts there are in all?

OK, OK, I have a theory now, wanna hear me out?
Could it be a set-up? Some revenge thing?
The Robbie C character's partner ("Uncle Something" as the daughter called him) is clearly no angel either, could he be involved?

SharonBottsPoundOfGrapes · 28/09/2016 14:01

Did the babysitter go home in the taxi? I couldn't tell. It was weird how she was a bitch to Dee in one scene and then pally in the next. I think his partner is involved and that his wife is covering something up. She knows more than she's letting on. What was that chasing himself thing about? I didn't get that bit.

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 28/09/2016 14:13

I guess the taxi scene was meant to be ambiguous, as so many scenes and conversations - it's cleverly done I think.
The chasing himself thing was kind of symbolic perhaps? Having to re-visit what he was like in his younger days and not liking it?

gingina · 28/09/2016 17:25

She kept seeing herself as a child too - I thought it was their memories playing out in their heads???

APlaceOnTheCouch · 28/09/2016 19:56

Did anyone watch right to the end? The car reversed out of the house and the house rebuilt itself. Does that mean Dee didn't drive into it and was only fantasising about doing that? Confused
Or was it symbolic about tearing a family house apart and then having to retrace everything to rebuild it?

Gwenhwyfar · 28/09/2016 20:05

"Did anyone watch right to the end? The car reversed out of the house and the house rebuilt itself. Does that mean Dee didn't drive into it and was only fantasising about doing that?"

Yes, I saw that. I don't think we'll know if it was real or not until next week.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 28/09/2016 20:37

I was reading at the same time and thought I'd missed some hint as to what it meant. Glad to see it was just deliberately ambiguous like the rest of the programme

neonrainbow · 28/09/2016 20:48

This is one of the most well written things I've seen in a long time.
