I found this blog post from Danny from series 3 a bit shocking when I read it at the time. I thought she sounded rather bitter about the whole experience. Knowing what I know now about how shoddily the contestants have been treated in the past, I guess it's understandable she felt quite angry about it all.

Jo Wheatley has also revealed that she wasn't allowed to keep her trophy because it was "too expensive". Holly Bell has also said some less than complementary things in her latest blog.

It's a bit tight only giving the trophy for 5 mins and then whipping it off them!

Was Danny the surgeon woman? She was pretty annoying if I recall.

I was gutted that I couldn't get Bake Off on BBC iPlayer here (Toronto) as it is one of my very favourite things to watch. But then I found it on YouTube this week! So pleased.

I'm glad Tom (aka Justin Trudeau) stayed, although he needs to stop fucking about with weird flavours and combos. Think he might be too young to realise that it doesn't make him look cool and edgy and brave, it just makes him look poncy.

Candace's pouty mouth is getting on my last nerve. Can she not just stand there without pursing her lips? I want her to go just because of that. Think her nickname should be Candlips.

I really like Eddie Redmayne-Weasley. Andrew? And also Jane.

Bmin is wonderful.

Selasi bit too smug and "look at me, I'm so laid back" for my liking.

I forgot this was on yesterday - in my defence, I had a massive cheese hangover from troughing my body weight in Dutch goodies on Tuesday but still...

So pleased for Bmin - totally deserved although I can't remember her Yorkshire filling? I was surprised that Tom stayed as his Yorkshire were shite, he didn't do well in technical and fennel churros

I'm liking the remaining contestants though - particularly Rav and Val actually. Selasi looks good enough to eat and felt bad for him this week - I quite like his laidbackness.

Back to basics next week though - pastry! I am on awe of people who make the one where you fold in the butter... I tried making danish pastries where you have to do this and the butter kept poking through every time I folded it. Wish I knew where I went wrong as they were quite crunchy instead of lovely and layered. Oh well - bring it on!

blondes they are surprised with the middle technical as they don't know what they are doing but the other 2 they have a week's notice and should have been planning/designing throughout the week, so shouldnt be surprised! I do wonder if they get an outline of the signature and showstopper because its a big ask in a week to practice those!

There was something in the article linked earlier about how they have to supply all their recipes for every week apart from the final in advance, possibly even when they're still in the auditioning process. I guess that means even the people that get chucked out have been preparing for the later stages. I can't imagine they have time to practice them until the actual week though, and maybe I misunderstood that bit! They definitely said that they were up all hours of the day and night trying to practice for the following weekend. But it sounds like they must have at least thought about them beforehand.

Kate does seem nice when you see her on Extra Slice

Kate is on Extra Slice and said they practice them loads of times. She really is the twee-est contestant ever, isn't she?

This is super interesting. About halfway down Mel and Sue saying how they nearly quit the first series because of produces wanting them to coax emotions out of the contestants using personal drama etc.

Ah that's sweet that they protect the crying contestants with swearing.
Before pastry week episode starts, who's your prediction for the next one to go? I think maybe Rav might do a Kate- solid if unspectacular up to now then just a bad week.

I think Val might struggle with the complicated stuff like Danish pastries, as she seems to run out of time very easily!

Then again, she's improved over the series so far, so maybe she'll be OK.

Apple turnover from M&S tonight. Was meant to be an egg tart too but I tasted one and it tasted rank so I've swapped it out for Baileys!
