Awwwww emosh

BagelGoesWalking · 09/07/2016 15:44

Was a great competitive match (at last!). Wished it had gone to 3 sets!

Well done to both. Great achievement for Serena

SealSong · 09/07/2016 15:45

Serena is one of the greatest athletes of all time.
Did anyone see the documentary about her that was on TV recently? The racism she has experienced has been horrendous - being actually booed during her early matches Angry.

DarkBlueEyes · 09/07/2016 15:46

Cracking tennis. Really good.

UnGoogleable · 09/07/2016 15:46

I can't believe she now has to go on and play a doubles final...!

SealSong · 09/07/2016 15:47

Is she playing the doubles final today? Wow

JaneJeffer · 09/07/2016 15:47

Oh well, Serena again...

UnGoogleable · 09/07/2016 15:48

I think she is. Imagine if Venus had also got to the final... they would have played each other, and then played together in two finals on the same day.

Did Beyonce leave already? Huh.

GrouchyKiwi · 09/07/2016 15:51

I'm surprised the Williams sisters were not seeded this year for the doubles. Are they just back in it? Am I right that Venus has been ill for a while?

In my opinion, Serena Williams is the best player of all time, including the men. It's frightening to think just how many tournaments she would have won, if she hadn't had a few years of inconsistency and loss of interest in tennis (some what understandably, following the murder of her sisterSad). No other player has achieved what she has. Remember the year she won the Australian Open, after virtually no play or even practise for months prior to that? She is not my favourite player by any means and she is not the best or most exciting player to watch, but you have to hand it to her. She is awesome.

Fiderer · 09/07/2016 15:52

SW's serve, consistency, won it for her then?

Fiderer · 09/07/2016 15:53

Forgot - 22 wins? Blimey.

DramaAlpaca · 09/07/2016 15:54

Creme I agree with you. I can't say I particularly like Serena, but she is an awesome athlete.

Mirandawest · 09/07/2016 15:57

I think they aren't seeded in rhe doubles as they just haven't played enough competitive matches to be ranked.

CremeEggThief · 09/07/2016 15:57

I think the Williams sisters are much more friendly and outgoing and get along with a lot more players in the locker room now than in the nineties and noughts. There was genuine warmth and respect in that embrace between Serena and Angie and I know she is also friends with Caroline Wozniacki and a few others. Credit where it's due.

derxa · 09/07/2016 16:05

Well done Serena. One of the greatest athletes of all time.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 09/07/2016 16:11

Her jumping around on the balcony in front of all the fans was very cute. Heartwarming.

The world loves a winner but she is growing on me Smile

UnGoogleable · 09/07/2016 16:18

Yeah she has grown on me too - both the sisters used to be so odd, and never came across very well in interviews. However, that has changed - they both seem more open, friendly and genuinely nice.

I guess they grew up. We've all had times in our lives when we might have been sullen or stroppy, we're just lucky they weren't televised Grin

JaneJeffer · 09/07/2016 16:31

Beyoncé has a concert to play in Dublin.

areyoubeingserviced · 09/07/2016 16:39

Fantastic athlete.
This is the kind of woman that I want my dds to aspire to.
Hard work , determination despite struggles
But still a champion.
Well done Serena

areyoubeingserviced · 09/07/2016 16:41

Must say that I thought that Kerber is lovely.
Her speech was beautiful

CremeEggThief · 09/07/2016 18:31

Aw, nice to see Mahut and his partner lifting the men's doubles trophies.

DramaAlpaca · 09/07/2016 18:33

Very pleased for them both.

Heather Watson is in the mixed doubles final tomorrow.

CremeEggThief · 09/07/2016 19:02

I'd love to see her and her partner win tomorrow, Drama.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 09/07/2016 20:20

Anyone watching Venus & Serena?

Can't get my head round it - Serena just won the Championship and a cool £2 million and now here she is doing it all over again!
