BBC3 now. Teenagers are made to try & run a house & take care of RL babies.

I did. Was quite at some of the behaviour!

Pinkchampagne · 08/01/2007 23:25

So was I!! Think tomorrows episode will be interesting, when they are handed the babies!

What was Ava's boyfriend called? the one who was ordering her to clean the house? Eurgh - what a pig!

wakeupandsmellthecoffee · 08/01/2007 23:35

poor sods they havnt got a clue .

louii · 08/01/2007 23:35

Who in the name of god would leave their children with these teenagers, not me!

controlfreaky2 · 08/01/2007 23:35

did anyone hear the feature on "front row" last week... put to production company that this was absolute nadir of reality tv.... what are those babies meant to make of it.... what sort of parent would want their baby to take part?

MummyPenguin · 09/01/2007 00:08

Ava's boyfriend is indeed a pig. She needs to dump him pronto, or she's going to have a hard life if she stays with him. I wouldn't worry too much about the babies, the parents will be 'behind camera' and will swiftly step in should they feel it necessary. It looks though, as if they've been given babies of around 8 or 9 months... just when they develop that clingy separation anxiety phase. The babies will cry loads simply because they're in the hands of unfamiliar people, and if their parents are nearby, will sense that, and will make it worse!! I was very shocked at Ava separating her eyelashes with a safety pin! Yikes! Should make for interesting viewing tomorrow! i could have loaned them my three - they wouldn't have got past the first screening

nappyaddict · 09/01/2007 00:31

i didn't think they were all immature but i did think ava and fisnick were. did you see them acting like kids in the supermarket? and that lauren girl when she went in a strop over the pigs and when sam wouldn't put the pregnant suit on?

also i think i would kill that fisnick if i was ava. i mean fgs get into the 21st century!! clean the house, cook my tea blah blah blah - kiss my a*se!

in fact in most of the cases it was the girls being immature which i didn't expect ...

although that one, i think it was alex or ryan who said if she couldn't cope with a child they shouldn't be together ... mmm they are only young, it doesn't mean they wouldn't be able to cope with a child later on. and also when it's your own child it's different you just get on with it! and anyway loadsa people find it stressful it's not a reason to not have babies is it? if everyone said that we would have become extinct years ago lol.
sorry i'm babbling ...

Twinklemegan · 09/01/2007 00:44

I was disappointed that there was nothing about the babes in tonight's episode. I think those kids have been given an impossible task tbh, which should conveniently prove the program's point (I presume) that teenagers are too young and immature to cope. As MP said, the babies seem to be at an age where separation anxiety will kick in, and they'll object to the fumbling of an inexperienced pair of hands. And we all know just how long it takes to even start to understand our own babies - trying to understand someone else's baby in just a few days would be ten times as difficult. I will watch tomorrow night with interest!

KoshkaAndJake · 09/01/2007 14:54

I watched this last night too, I was thinking about how I bet the parents who give the babies away aren't only children!
PFB syndrome would stop it I guess

How about Raisha's boyfriend? They didn't speak for longer than 2 HOURS!

I was thinking about how I would have coped when I was 19 (im only 22 now I have to add) and I have a 6 months old baby and I find it very hard dont getr me wrong, but you get to know your own baby, their moods and what noise they make when they are tired, hungry etc.

I never knew this until about 3 weeks ago when I learned about my baby, so how is a teenager who only has them for 4 days going to actually know. And there isn't the emotional attachment either.

Gosh I just saw how long this is!

Piffle · 09/01/2007 14:58

someone on mn asked about how it would be viewed if she let her toddler take part in this tv series....
this would have been several months ago.

nappyaddict · 09/01/2007 16:00

pfb syndrome?

apparently the parents were watching at all times but i don't know if this is true or not cos i can't imagine a camera person being there 24/7...

missusincognito · 09/01/2007 17:26

the parents were able to watch at all times (cctv),also as a parent you were able to step in at any time, etc....!
Also ,each couple had a day nanny and a night nanny with them, whilest they looked after the Kids..... Indeed probably safer then leaving your child with anyone normally....!

Overrun · 09/01/2007 17:29

Glad the babies were safe then, but they will still be traumatised by the change of set up though

missusincognito · 09/01/2007 17:36

so, are all Babys that go to childminders or Nurseries traumatised then, too? Afterall, they are then seperated from their normal background, etc....!
I do think that most parents will know their own child and will know if they can cope with something like this or not? Also, all the children were assessed by a psychologist for suitability, i.e. how they would cope, etc....!

honeycookiebear · 09/01/2007 17:37

Dont know if there are responsible people with them at all times, I saw a clip where one of the girls kicked over the buggy WITH THE CHILD IN IT!!! I think its the parents of the babies who need a lesson in responsibility. I quote one of the mums " If it helps them in any way then by all means have my child". Remember one of them KILLED an electronic baby simulator in less then 24 hours! I will watch the entire 8 part series with interest and amazement no doubt.

honeycookiebear · 09/01/2007 17:43

I think children are less traumatised by nursery as it becomes a long term routine which they get used to so the distress would in theory be short lived and they are there for a matter of hours not 4 weeks. I dont know many people who would, say, send their 9 moth old on a 4 week holiday with strangers who couldnt manage their way out of a paper bag, aren't being paid to care and have no emotional ties

missusincognito · 09/01/2007 17:49

ahem, you got your wires crossed there....the teenagers are filmed 4 weeks, they only get the children for 2 nights and not quite 3 days, basically morning/ midday before the first night, then one full day then part of the day after the 2. night....NOT 4 weeks....the Teenagers will not only have Babys ,they will also have Toddlers/under 10's, over 10's...etc....!

missusincognito · 09/01/2007 17:51

honeycookiebear....not being funny, but there is a reason WHY there is a safety warning with Buggys that states, do not put bags on the handles of a Buggy....I presume the reason is, that this Teenage girl that this Tippingaccident happened too was not the first one this ever happened too?

nappyaddict · 09/01/2007 18:19

so did she kick it over or did it fall over cos of stuff on the handles. cos the first is unacceptable, but the 2nd happens regualarly...

nappyaddict · 09/01/2007 18:20

how do you know there was a nanny with them at all times? but if this was the case it's not as bad as the papers have made out and they have conveniently omitted this fact. wonder why .. that's the daily mail for you

TrinityRhino · 09/01/2007 18:23

it sems to be on twice tonight, is that 2 new episodes or not.

honeycookiebear · 09/01/2007 18:23

Sorry, I was under the impression they were looking after the children 24/7 for 4 weeks as they said on the program they were going to be effectively "babysitting non-stop for 4 weeks". And you're right, we all know putting bags on the back of a buggy makes it tip. My issue was from the clip I saw it looked as though the girl kicked the buggy over, not the clip of Raisha shown on the program where it just tipped, but one shown on the advert last week, not sure wnich girl it was though.

Pinkchampagne · 09/01/2007 18:24

Didn't realise it was on twice tonight. What times?

I would LOVE them to have my ds for a week he is nearly 13 and would eat them out of house and home, drive them mad with his pursuit of infinite knowledge, his smelly socks, inability to smell his own underarms and skill at leaving clothing in every room.
For anyone who thinks babies/toddlers are hard work...
My 4yr old dd is a delight and a doddle compared to her older brother!
