Glad I'm not the only one bemused about Claire wanting to sacrifice Mary to BJR after what she's been through already AND deny Jamie his justice after all he's been through just so that her ex husband will exist 200 years from now.

WTAF is she thinking? I'm curious to know if this is similar in the book, from what I've read upthread and the sneak peek I took at it online they have changed the series quite a bit from DIA.

I'm halfway through book 1 and agree with hipho about cutting out the sillier stuff (fucking Loch Ness Monster - really, DG??)

I was far too tired last night so I will have to watch again, but I was very pleased to see a return of the knees

Oh me too, pixie - I have no idea what was said in that scene as I was completely transfixed. That is an excellent screenshot!

Lessstressedhemum · 09/05/2016 10:31

Haven't seen the episode yet. For those who haven't read DIA but want to, look away now. Claire is obsessed with "saving" Frank. She puts a lot of pressure on Jamie over it, bit it isn't her that marries Mary off to Jack Randall.

TBH, Claire burns my biscuits. Her obsession with Frank beggars belief, especially when she is still thinking about/talking to him in the later books when he proved himself to be a misogynistic, racist, adulterous prat. She is almost 60 and still thinks of him sometimes while having sex with Jamie. Just WHY?

snozzlemaid · 09/05/2016 10:40

Wow! That is a very sexy screenshot pixie. Thanks for sharing it.

pixieg1rl · 09/05/2016 11:24

Don't pop any stitches snozzle

AKAmyself · 09/05/2016 11:41

The bottom line, I think, is that i can stand almost any ridiculous plot development as long as
Jamie is wearing a kilt
Jamie smoulders
Jamie speaks Gaelic
Jamie disrobes regularly

One more difference I've noticed with the book (am about 1/3 through book 1) is how much rougher Jamie is, including quite a lot of dubious consent sex between him and Claire. I'm glad they've resisted the temptation of going The 50 shades route in the show - so much sexier for it!

Dollius01 · 09/05/2016 11:59

Sorry, but am starting to lose my patience with Jamie in his fucking silk chemise.

And, yes, the obsession with saving Frank is unutterably dull, but if there was no Frank, then Claire would never have gone to the highlands so he could research his ancestor, and would never have fallen through time and straight onto Jamie's hot Jock cock, would she?

I am seriously tired of all the shifty-eye intrigue now. Why can't they just get back to the highlands for some more romping in the heather?? Claire looks shit in French doily dresses anyway...

AKAmyself · 09/05/2016 12:13

Hear hear!

OohMavis · 09/05/2016 12:32

KNEES! Who knew showing a bit of meaty man leg would be so sexy?

TheHiphopopotamus · 09/05/2016 12:42

1) is how much rougher Jamie is, including quite a lot of dubious consent sex

The books get worse in that respect. I really, really went off Jamie in the later books because of that reason,

TheHiphopopotamus · 09/05/2016 12:56

but if there was no Frank, then Claire would never have gone to the highlands so he could research his ancestor, and would never have fallen through time and straight onto Jamie's hot Jock cock, would she?

She's trying to change the result of the battle of Culloden. Who's to say she or Frank would even have been born if they manage to do that?

hudyerwheesht · 09/05/2016 12:57

Oh no thehipho - that's disappointing as I was just nodding my head in agreement with AKA, having come to the same conclusion (I'm halfway through book 1 and had a few Hmm moments at the sex scenes)

I'm also in hearty agreement with AKA's list, in fact with all of this thread - I love it;everyone is on the same wavelength as me. Grin

AKAmyself · 09/05/2016 12:58

I just can't imagine Sam Heughan's Jamie being abusive. He plays him with a certain playfulness and vulnerability that really make him come alive. Even the whole spanking thing was handled so much better in the show, the book is awful - what with all the playful patting she gets from the men on the next day!

hudyerwheesht · 09/05/2016 13:00

Jamie's hot Jock cock

Grin

Only on MN could you find such a fantastic description.

I like this reviewer, mainly because of the snarky memes www.scotlandnow.dailyrecord.co.uk/lifestyle/outlander-recap-season-2-episode-7929693

This was my favourite this week

hudyerwheesht · 09/05/2016 13:08

God, I know. Plus the whole asking for forgiveness scene was never in the book - it was the only thing that brought me back from hating J at that point, which helped me empathise with C.
If it had played out as per the book with hours of tedious chat about his childhood embarrassing incidents I doubt it would have worked.

It makes for an interesting scene and I love the bit where J looks heartbroken and says "is it not enough Claire? Do you wish us to live separately now?"
I went from LTB to forgive him, forgive him! right there.

TheHiphopopotamus · 09/05/2016 13:08

Sorry hud Blush

I won't spoil it for anyone else, but I got up to either book 4 or 5, and by then Claire and Jamie were my least favourite characters. But on the other hand, I can't see SH letting them take Jamie down that route either.

AKAmyself · 09/05/2016 13:24

Exactly, hud. I read that scene last night and felt an urge to rewatch the show, so much better handled. Even that whole speech about "do ye not want me anymore?" In the book is the result of Claire throwing a hissy fit of jealousy... Snore. And the ensuing sex was iffy to say th least, nothing like that glorious scene in the book with the perfect delivery of "I am your master and you are mine" with equal parts respect, playfulness and lust

AKAmyself · 09/05/2016 13:24

Sorry I mean that glorious scene in the show

IWILLgiveupsugar · 09/05/2016 13:27

This is the trouble with all time travel books though, isn't it? Events have to happen as they always did or none of the characters would be in the position to travel to the past in order to change the future in the first place.

If Frank never exists, Claire won't ever be in Scotland to go through the stones, to do anything which prevents Frank's existance!

As an aside, I liked Frank in bk 1 and would have chosen him over Jamie. Much sexier imo. I'll get my coat ...

AKAmyself · 09/05/2016 13:32

I just need to share with you all my complete delight at the fact that you're all at least as infested as I am :)

AKAmyself · 09/05/2016 13:33

And by infested I mean invested. Obviously:
