Theirs is such a romantic relationship in season 1. I hope they get back there too.
The sex scenes in season 1 were filmed perfectly for a female audience. On more than one occasion they showed him pleasuring her, which you rarely see anywhere else. Too often it's all about the man's pleasure.
It's had the same effect on me too Dry. Dp has no idea why. Though not able to do anything about it at the moment following my surgery and subsequent infection. Sad

Drywhitethanks · 06/05/2016 21:48

Snozzle save it up for when you feel better...how are you now?

I tell you what bugged me about the lovely sexy cent in the last episode.....it was the overhead camera shot, looked a bit seedy, voyeurit almost, like they'd been caught on CCTV....much prefer normal angle

"Sex scene"
"Voyeuristic"
Darm it

This may explain the different camera angle...

Ooh, good episode.
Couldn't sleep and there it was to watch. Worth being up early for.

CheerfulYank · 08/05/2016 06:55

Watch yourself with the randiness...I have a child whose conception I can lay solely at the feet of eroctic Walking Dead fan fiction. Blush Blush Blush

Sizzle I love Richard Armitage too! Suh-wooooooon.

snozzlemaid · 08/05/2016 09:28

Lol!
Nothing happening here at the moment as I have an open surgical wound on my stomach which is being packed daily. So there is no way dp is coming near me for a while. And I have a coil firmly in place too.

One more here whose sex life is greatly benefitting from Outlander :) The last time DH had it so good was in the midst of my Twilight fanfiction obsession!

I'm all too familiar with being in love with fictional characters... after losing two years of my life to Robert Pattinson/Edward Cullent (I'm only marginally ashamed of it), there has been Mitchell/Poldark (also known as Aidan Turner for those who care about small details such as reality), not to mention an uncomfortable few weeks spent agonising over Toby Stephens/Rochester. But Jamie is something else entirely. Googling ugly pics of him doesn't really help, because all I can see is how gorgeous he CAN be given the right lack of clothes.

Now back to this latest episode (spoilers)... i thought it was excellent, really well paced and strongly acted. Anyone else absolutely seething at Claire in that last scene? God it takes a strong woman to stand up to such a man, he was heartbroken/angry/devastated/ready to explode.... and with good reason. FANTASTIC acting by Sam there, he has rarely looked this powerful and subtle at the same time. Although I can sort of see her logic (up to a point...), I think Jamie is absolutely right to feel betrayed. I'll be interested to see how they come back from that one, as a couple.

In fact, while I really (really) miss the unrestrained lust of season 1, their falling in love and getting to know each other, all the sexy times and fun, I am thrilled to see how this show is not scared of going to the dark places of a couple's relationship and marriage. I think it is totally believable that two strong characters such as Jamie and Claire, in the extraordinary circumstances they find themselves in, would have an intense and stormy relationship such as this one - with conflict an a certain core of violence - if that makes sense.

Ok, rambling over. Now when's the next episode.

AKAmyself · 08/05/2016 10:32

one more thing: am i the only one who failed to get excited about the gift of spoons? My first thought was "that's something my MIL would give me"

snozzlemaid · 08/05/2016 11:55

I agree with everything you say AKA. I can't believe Claire is asking that of Jamie. I was so cross at her for doing that. I sort of see why she did it, but she chose to spend her life with Jamie.
It was a great episode. Back on form I thought.

Sunnymeg · 08/05/2016 13:24

I thought it was a really good episode. They are deviating from the book quite a lot, but it is making sense of the overall story. I did wonder if they were going to skip a particularly nasty event, but now am not so sure. The pace is really picking up which is great. But...... Poor Mary...... such an unfortunate life.

TheHiphopopotamus · 08/05/2016 13:43

It does seem to be zipping through the story and we're not even halfway through the series. I'm wondering if they're going to start on the third book before the end of S2. There did seem to be a lot of filler in S1.

snozzlemaid · 08/05/2016 13:47

Regarding Mary (and I've not read much of book 2 yet) I keep wondering if Claire truly believes that it will be a loving relationship between her and BJR. I would be more Inclined to think that the pregnancy would be a result of him raping her, knowing what he's like.
At the moment Claire just seems hell bent on ensuring the pregnancy occurs whatever the cost to anybody else. She seems to care for Mary so I really don't know why she'd want to put her through that.

TheHiphopopotamus · 08/05/2016 13:54

That is an excellent point. Knowing what Claire does about BJR, you would hope that she'd just think 'fuck Frank, I can't put another woman through that!'

snozzlemaid · 08/05/2016 14:00

I know. I would have just let Mary be happy with Alex. She really can't let go of Frank though, can she.

Drywhitethanks · 08/05/2016 17:52

Just what watched, thought it was great.

I agree with everything said.

Sam is brilliant. I actually think Claire was right, not to ensure Frank's survival really who cares about him but because duelling is illegal in Paris and Jamie could end up in a lot of trouble. Also, tbh, they couldn't get rid of Randall so early but since he survived the highland cattle stampede I suspect he's not that easy to polish off

Think sH was also great when first came face to face with BJR...couldn't even look at him. Also with the Comte, loved how Comte spoke in French and how Jamie ownes him a bit at least ... What a fantastic showdown.

Sometimes I wish C and J would just calm down, chill and discuss things better.....all of this could have been avoided if they'd just had a chat over a nice glass of burgundy.

I've read the second book now and am wondering what will happen in the series.

Gah, want to say things but cannot!

Does anyone know if there's going to be a long break midseason like there was last year?

snozzlemaid · 08/05/2016 19:10

I know some of you will have read what happens and desperately want to say.
Thanks for not spoiling it.
I'm just about caught up with the tv show now on book 2 so might find out sooner than is shown on the tv series.
I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that there's no break for this season.

AKAmyself · 08/05/2016 20:06

I've started reading the books. So far I'm a few chapters into book 1 and have to say that the series imo definitely improves on the books. Claire is really insufferable in print!

AKAmyself · 08/05/2016 20:10

BtwI've read a few good reviews of this episode (The wall street journal - of all outlets! - has a great blog about it, and AV club is also pretty good), one of them, I forgot which one, pointed out how this is the episode where Claire's moral dilemmas start to show up for all their murkiness and shades of grey. She had seemed so cavalier about changing the past, without seemingly pausing to consider the implications... until it gets personal.

Which is exactly the point you're all making - and that I fully agree with - how can she seriously consider pushing Mary in BJR's bed? To be fair, that particular moral dilemma for me pales compared to how she extracts her pound of flesh from Jamie - the whole "you owe me a debt of a life" speech sent shivers down my spine. And Jamie's articulation of his feelings - "must I bear everyone's weaknesses? Am I not allowed my own" - was really beautiful and truly touching.

Drywhitethanks · 08/05/2016 20:14

I also don't understand how Claire says she saved his life twice when he's come to her rescue on more than one occasion. Hmm

Glad to see Jamie in a kilt again.

And can anyone translate what he said in Gaelic? Just a load if expletives?

OP posts:
TheHiphopopotamus · 08/05/2016 20:18

Tbh, I don't think it matters about what happens in the rest of the book as to BJR and Mary. At this point in time in the series, Claire believes that Mary and BJR get together so that future generations can produce Frank. She's throwing Mary to the wolves (or Wolverton) Wink If she thinks Mary and BJR are going to get together, she ought to be happy that Jamie wants to run him through with a sword before that could happen to poor Mary.

aka I'm glad someone else thinks the to show is better than the books. They've done a good job in getting to the point, and cutting some of the sillier stuff out.
