And I'm happy we have wee Fergus now, he's a character I've always liked in the books.

TheHiphopopotamus · 25/04/2016 15:15

'His name's Fergus. Well, it's really Claudel but we both agreed that's no very manly.'

I miss Dougal too.
I agree I want them back in Scotland in kilts, and their relationship back. It does seem that it's not even bothering Jamie which doesn't seem right.
I haven't read book two so don't know if this is following the book or changed for tv.
I have just read the part in book one where Jamie flogs Claire with his belt. In the book I felt that Claire forgave him much quicker. In the tv show it was quite dragged out. Maybe they thought it added more drama. But I find it saddening when they don't get on.

TheHiphopopotamus · 25/04/2016 16:08

In book 1, Jamie got over being being raped by BJR by Claire doing some kind of odd ritual and then they had sex in a magic pond or something equally ridiculous 🙄 While I don't like the fact that they've fallen out in the tv series, I think the direction they've taken it in is more realistic. He's obviously got a fear of intimacy now for whatever reason.

As for him not seeming to miss Scotland, this was a huge problem for me in the books. It didn't fit in with his character at all (that's just my opinion).

Drywhitethanks · 25/04/2016 18:38

Interesting ..... You're all right about the lack of intimacy between them being more realistic, I guess after what he Went through, and the recurring flash backs, intimacy will take while , but you'd have thought he would at least give her a hug Sad.......he did smile at her in a goid way when he went to the Hospital though

Hiphop "magic ritual" "magic pond" sounds crap tbh.....I'll settle for this Smile

I think Jamie is just really, really angry and not himself. So I'm hoping they'll find their way to each other soon... but idk, they just don't work as well as individuals I don't think - they make sense as a couple, because his humour tempers her feistiness and her rationality tempers his exuberance, plus they just have this amazing chemistry and hunger for each other. Otherwise, they just seem, idk... rather stale as standalone characters.

I think I might have to rematch the wedding scene to cheer myself up in the interim...

Btw, i had planned to read the books, but you guys are putting me right off :)

pixieg1rl · 25/04/2016 20:11

I think they've done a fantastic job of adapting the books and trimming the worst excesses of DG's wtfery. I'd actually forgotten the magic cave pool of rumpy pumpy and emotional healing.

AKAmyself · 25/04/2016 21:11

See, rationally I know that i'm supposed to think the emotional cave of rumpy pumpy (which btw - my computer helpfully suggested to autocorrect to "grumpy puppy") is a whole load of poppycock, but part of me is thinking... mmmhhh Jamie all wet and naked and sexy, I think I'd quite like that visual...

Drywhitethanks · 25/04/2016 22:32

AKAmy I agree but thinks the sex in Episode 9 is better there must be a water scene in the show, too much of a cliche for them to resist....

The Wedding is lovely though, so romantic and happy.

I'm hoping they take Bouton back to Scotland with them..........

I've actually realised what's missing from Season 2 ...it's the action. Season 1 had exciting stuff going on in every episode, I don't remember one where I was bored (although didn't enjoy 'The Search' as much) whether is was Randal capturing someone, Clare being accused of being a witch, visit to Lallybroch and ofcourse the dramatic/traumatic culmination at Wentworth .......each one had pace. France, at the mo, is intregued rather than action and so a bit slow.

I fell asleep during the latest episode, not loving it, I need Jamie in a kilt, dirty & roaming around the Scottish countryside, otherwise what's the point.

TheHiphopopotamus · 26/04/2016 17:17

drywhite I get where you're coming from but I found the BJR has Claire captive! Now he has Claire captive again! Now he has Jamie! plot lines a bit tedious. And as much as I like Claire, the episodes that didn't have Jamie in/had less Jamie in, dragged a bit for me.

I prefer the start of this series to first half of series 1 (although the politics is a bit dull). In fact, I almost gave up on S1, can you believe that? Grin

I think we can all agree they need to be back in Scotland asap though.

Drywhitethanks · 26/04/2016 18:44

So, just to recap, out petition to date goes like this :

  1. Give Jamie a fringe
  2. Get Jamie and Claire back to the Highlands ASAP
  3. Get Jamie out of pantomime costume and back into a kilt and please can we see him demonstrating how to put it in one more time Grin

And in other news, prepare yourselves my friends .....apparently in Poldak series 2 there will be no bare chested shots whatsoever Shock as Cornwall was a bit chilly during filming and Aidan likes his vest Sad

Drywhitethanks · 26/04/2016 18:53

And another thought this has bothered me for a while and I haven't dared say it,but know we're friends and all in the wedding episode J looks rather tanned all over do you think he had a spray tan before hand or does he just race around the moors in the buff whatever the weather? these things concern me he doesn't look like the sort of skin type to have a healthy glow Grin

snozzlemaid · 26/04/2016 19:19

But there's plenty of Poldark filmed indoors, so I'm sure the shirt will come off at some stage.

Yes, the Comte is rather dishy especially without the wig. But I love Murtagh, sorry Blush

Yep drywhite I shall begin drafting our petition forthwith, you've covered all the salient points Grin

pixieg1rl · 26/04/2016 20:11

Maybe Jamie took a bath in some particularly peaty water before the wedding drywhite. Like you I would imagine he has the standard Scottish complexion (that I do) of skin that goes slightly less blue in the summer.

I think I prefer the Comte with the wig pike he looks a bit Pierce Brosnan circa 1989 there

Pixie I know this because I too am a blueish shade of pale, with auburnish hair , no Scottish blood though Sad

I think the Comte with or without wig is gorgeous.....has a very English sounding name for a Frenchman.

Snozzle yes the indoor scenes Smile thanks for giving me hope. just watched Aidan/Mitchell having wooden stake driven through heart.....hopes he recovers before autumn for Poldark, quite upsetting really

So, latest box set done.....may sneak a bit of Outlander in before lights out Grin

AKAmyself · 26/04/2016 22:41

see, I now feel that re-watching the wedding episode is my moral duty, just so i'm able to meaningfully contribute to the very important topic of Jamie's skin tone. My theory is that those candles gave a rather golden glow. But not that I've thought much about it mind you, not at all more to the point is the issue of Jamie's personal hygiene, what with all that horse riding and sleeping in barns and the generally sorry state of indoor plumbing in 18th century Scotland. So the "tan" could actually be a particularly evenly-distributed layer of grime. JS.

I did think the Scotland of season 1, much like Polder's Cornwall, was a surprisingly sunny place. Although there was one scene that had me howling with laughter when Claire and Jamie are sitting on the grass, chatting about this and that, in the pouring rain.

And speaking of Poldark (I really have found my spiritual home here!), when oh when is it starting again?!? And does anyone want to start a petition for a crossover Poldark/Outlander series?

AKAmyself · 26/04/2016 22:42

Polder? Polder?????? WTAF, autocorrect?

Drywhitethanks · 26/04/2016 23:09

Ak you must have missed my comment about Jamie and Claire popping in for a cuppa at Ross and Damelza's on the way back from France.....would love to see that.
