It was the witness who had been with rudy fixing something (car?) all morning.

Apparently died of a heart attack at the police station.

I'm confused. Why didn't that witness say originally that Rudi was with him at the time of the murder?

Cocolepew · 01/05/2016 22:28

Its getting boring, the trips to the US arent really needed.
Nicks a shithead.

Davros · 01/05/2016 23:00

Agreed. The best thing in iris the dog. And now we have to wait two weeks for the final part

LogicalThinking · 01/05/2016 23:11

I think it is getting more interesting as it is all unravelling
I am fascinated to see where it is going to end up.
Excellent acting from them.

MajesticWhine · 01/05/2016 23:19

theliverpoolone - he said he had a visit from the cops, was persuaded to change his story.

Room101isWhereIUsedToLive · 01/05/2016 23:38

Vern Alley (the witness) did give Rudy an alibi originally. But then he was leant on by nameless police people to retract the alibi.
Bit implausible that Maya wouldn't have talked to him at some point in the last twenty years.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/05/2016 21:08

Weird episode

If nick had any brains he would have said he's done his press ups so can't manage another 8 mins 😂

Not sure why maya will still with him - but not sleep in the same bed - why not divorce ? For the kids?

Couldn't nick have said the dead boy have the same name and dob is a coincidence ?

So now she knows via Julia that her hubby knows the dodgy man who rescued their dog

Not sure how this will end for rudy

And what did they bribe the skinhead with to 1) try and kill him 2) to then take the blame

And the Lola girl? Totally weird. If she meant to get info off Dan? Who the gives away stuff he isn't meant to due to his sn

Howaboutthisone · 02/05/2016 22:20

I'm really enjoying this. Or maybe 'enjoying' isn't quite the right word as I find it upsetting at times. It's really well acted and I'm intrigued and really disappointed that I have to wait two weeks until the next one. I really dislike Nick now. Quote ironic that the best bit of info and the most damning for Rudy's case didn't actually come from him but from Dan. Who knows what he would have down if Maya trusted him enough to share that information though. I was shouting at Maya to confide in Julia so she could start putting that together. Really glad Julia came to her with the photo.

Yambrel · 03/05/2016 10:17

I'm enjoying this but the American courtroom scenes seem farcical. Lots of middle-aged men lounging around, spouting pompous drivel, no legal discussion. Is this accurate? Also, Maya's body posture is too meek. To get so far in a career she'd have learned to look confident even if she didn't feel it.

NotJanine · 03/05/2016 10:22

Yes, I agree that she does have a defeatist look about her; the way she holds herself and her facial expressions.

didn't realise there's a 2 week wait now - argh!!

mouldycheesefan · 03/05/2016 14:32

Feel cheated that thy didn't show the moment when nick told maya he had been undercover police , surely that was key denouement?
The US stuff is irrelevant and dull
Sophie okonedo overacts. She is also a poor lawyer it's all about th emotion for her.
The daughter wears a look of permanent shock no matter what is happening.
Meh, this could have been great but it's not.

FawnDrench · 03/05/2016 15:45

I wonder if all this tapping at the laptop Nick is doing is him writing about what's happening and the whole deception over the decades,

There is an increasing amount of shots of him with his headphones on, writing away.

So if/when he dies, the true story will somehow get told as he will have sent it to the family friend who's a journalist or to a publisher.
Then the lie about him being "a writer" would be his redemption - sort of.

BitOutOfPractice · 03/05/2016 15:50

MOULDY I feel the same. It's not half as good as it should be

mouldycheesefan · 03/05/2016 15:54

It needs a really good editor to get it down to four episodes and cut the crap bits e.g rudy etc. Two many irrelevant bits of story that add nothing to it e.g US trips. Tighter editing would really make it so much better. There is a lot could be left in th cutting room floor

limitedperiodonly · 03/05/2016 16:09

Arggh! I was binge-watching and thought I had all the episodes. But there's one left. Yes, there are ridiculous coincidences but It's brilliant.

wateryfalls · 03/05/2016 17:39

I think this could've been so much better.
Maya & Nick are great actors and I love Julia but it's all so protracted.

Why hasn't Nick published anything in all their years together?
What has Maya's epilepsy got to add to the story?
How can she keep swanning off to the US?

Mostly though, surely he'd have told her the whole shenanigans years ago and sworn her to secrecy.

limitedperiodonly · 03/05/2016 17:57

Why hasn't Nick published anything in all their years together?

That was my biggest plothole amongst a complete doily of plotholes Grin. But I am going to ignore it.

Howaboutthisone · 03/05/2016 18:24

I think the America bits are needed as it seems it's all going to link together. I could be wrong though.

raisedbyguineapigs · 03/05/2016 22:18

I've just caithness up on this. It might be because I have a stinking cold but I dodington get that episode at all. I agree the US bits are dull worthy and pointless. Just concentrate on making one story good.

limitedperiodonly · 04/05/2016 13:51

I read somewhere that the Louisiana bits are to make it easier for the BBC to sell it to the US.

Brilliant was a bit too enthusiastic of me Blush but I'm enjoying it despite the massive plot holes, coincidences and Maya's curious lack of curiosity about what Nick did for a living.

I do find it believable that someone would drive despite having epilepsy - though maybe not Maya, who is very highly principled. It's up to you to inform the DVLA. Your doctors advise you to but they can't break confidentiality and do it. I don't really understand why the character has epilepsy though.

raisedbyguineapigs · 04/05/2016 14:13

I don't understand how they think they are going to sell a series to America that basically slags off their legal system ( even though many many people in the US are against the death penalty) and makes their lawyers out to be still straight out of to kill a mockingbird. The yanks bought Broadchurch and that had no US content at all. I don't understand the epilepsy either.
