Anyone else think this looks good?

Maybe the epilepsy will somehow become very relevant?

limitedperiodonly · 04/05/2016 14:45

She won't take her medication because she thinks it will dull her intellect, like Rudy said about his medication, so maybe that's the link. It doesn't. I took it for a while and was as brilliant as ever Wink. But then so little about this show is true to life. My favourite bit was when Nick was nabbed by a policeman at the march and was let go when he said he was undercover. If only Michael had thought of that...

sliceolemon · 04/05/2016 15:14

I think the hardest thing for me is that I'm meant to really be behind Maya but I find her quite annoying.

limitedperiodonly · 04/05/2016 15:30

The most annoying thing was when she called Nick in tears causing him to miss his father's last hours, and then when he turned up, said: 'Oh, it's actually good news. Rudy's alive. What are we doing for my birthday?'

And the fact that she looks like David Walliams.

raisedbyguineapigs · 04/05/2016 19:25

Yes that was annoying, although in her defence, she didnt know about the father. I think that was his fault. He should have asked her what had happened instead of just assuming Rudy had died, and made up some excuse about seeing her later on. It seems to me that the writers lacked confidence in the story so just threw as much as they could at it. It's made it a bit too messy.

NotJanine · 04/05/2016 20:15

And the fact that she looks like David Walliams

I hadn't noticed that but she does remind me of Sue Perkins at times, very similar voice

SauvignonBlanche · 08/05/2016 19:00

Is it not on tonight? Confused

Arkwright · 08/05/2016 19:13

No they said at the end of last weeks episode it would be two weeks.

purplepandas · 08/05/2016 20:08

Agh about this not being on tonight. I am disappointed.

Travelledtheworld · 08/05/2016 21:56

Yes I' m disappointed too. Had planned my whole evening around it.

HuckfromScandal · 09/05/2016 06:11

So annoyed!!
Evening planned round the final episode.
Had to find something productive to do!

eddiemairswife · 09/05/2016 10:44

One consolation...... Adrian Lester presented one of the awards.

DorynownotFloundering · 09/05/2016 15:29

I think there will turn out to be a massive link between Rudy & Antwe & the CIA or some US spook dept will have a vested interest in keeping an eye on Mya. The Scottish bent copper is not working for the same team Nick is so think he's a British high up working for the yanks .
< I could be overthinking this>
Wink

limitedperiodonly · 09/05/2016 17:22

I was annoyed too. It's poor planning. They know when the BAFTAs is going to be held so they should have put Undercover on a week earlier than they did. I hate award ceremonies - even the ones I've been involved in. I don't to watch them on my telly. I don't feel the same way about sport, even though I hardly ever watch it. I accept that lots of people are interested in it. But actors getting prizes?

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/05/2016 17:24

Not sure why he couldn't tell his dad he got married and had a family

Tho Obv as he told Maya that he was in care that wouldn't have worked

He Obv didn't think about the long term effects of lying

limitedperiodonly · 09/05/2016 19:44

His dad presumably knew he was a police officer blondes so he would have said that to Maya if they'd met.

I know I would if Maya said to me: 'Your son, my husband, is a brilliant crime novelist whose work I've never seen despite me asking questions for a living'. I'd have been compelled to put her right.

But then barristers aren't always nosy. I believe sometimes they think: 'Please stop talking because I will be forced to stop acting for you and declare myself to be "professionally embarrassed" which means: "my client told me he was guilty and now I can't maintain my profession's ethical pretence". I think that's why they have a buffer of a solicitor between them and the client. It's a very interesting job.

Blondeshavemorefun · 09/05/2016 21:17

But to hide the fact he had kids - his grandkids :(

Sotaku · 13/05/2016 13:30

He had to keep his old life separate at all costs since, revealing how he came to meet his wife, would definitely end the marriage in the early days when she wasn't as invested (kids, etc). She would've been way too upset at him having any part of the events around Michael's murder. Plus, he used his influence to remove her boyfriend at the time from the scene. I seem to recall him getting him arrested. I suppose he might have thought he could tell her later but, the longer you continue propagating a lie, the more impossible it is to come clean. So, he just had to plod on. His actions recently in agreeing to help his old boss, even though anyone external could tell would result in his ex-partner's death, and in making up lies about his time in a care home and an affair show how desperately he was clinging to the belief that he could live out the lie. In his desperate state, he didn't even think his lies through enough to realise he'd get caught as she and her journalist friend are very intelligent. He's very human and fallible which means I do like how his character is written, though I don't like him as he's so devious (the character, not AL who I think is great).

I agree that the epilepsy was just a silly plot device and that it's odd he's never actually had a book published, but otherwise I really like this series.

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 13/05/2016 22:13

Re Maya's posture, demeanour and refusal to deal with her health issues its all painting a picture of someone who is both wonderfully brilliant mind and barrister, and someone who is also being ground down and damaged by the racism and corruption that is all around her. Much of it invisible and ghostly, but closing in and about to be exposed/revealed.

That she has been manipulated and lied to for so long shows in her physicality.

She is brilliant but also blind and ignorant of some vitally important issues (not her fault of course).

Lulooo · 14/05/2016 21:36

The actor who plays Maya is very irritating get and completely over acts. Was she in Luther a few seasons ago? She was alright in tha . Totally unconvincing in this. Bit of a drama queen. Only the scenes when she plays the younger version of herself are okay.
As for Nick, the whole story about him keeping his whole life a secret and the reasons behind it don't add up. But I like the character.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/05/2016 19:01

sooooooooooooo

will we be happy with the ending tonight?

will rudy be saved

will justice be done

will nick tell the truth

will maya forgive

will her fits play a part in it - or what else was the point of the storyline

InformalMother · 15/05/2016 21:31

What do you think the guy just told Nick about Michael Antwi?

MajesticWhine · 15/05/2016 21:32

I don't know. Bit confused. Presumably something he wasn't expecting and that's why he smashed up the device?

InformalMother · 15/05/2016 21:36

And something that he doesn't want Maya to know because he lied about the recorder not working.

Surely their mobiles would be bugged as standard?

HisNameWasPrinceAndHeWasFunky · 15/05/2016 21:51

Whoever mentioned Adrian's ear I can't stop looking at it now!

I'm pretty sure he must have played rugby. It's know as cauliflower ear and it's an injury common to those involved in a scrum. The blood vessels get ruptured from the pressure and the ears become disfigured.
