Anyone else think this looks good?

OP posts:
JackandDiane · 03/04/2016 22:21

yes if its the same next week then its BINNED
I had such great hopes for it.

choirmumoftwo · 03/04/2016 22:24

I thought it was great, but I read a synopsis beforehand so I had half a clue what was going on!

Behooven · 03/04/2016 22:25

romcom thanks, I was trying to remember him!

RomComPhooey · 03/04/2016 22:25

It started so well. DH commented on the quality production values and stellar cast.

In terms of Sophie's character, she's a bit of a fuckwit pulling her car up in the middle of the road to look for her phone, rather than pulling over on to the roadside. (Didn't get the faux lorry peril there at all!) Is she really DPP material? Hmm

Sidge · 03/04/2016 22:25

I was underwhelmed by Undercover.

I had high hopes after The Night Manager but this is just a bit dull and disjointed.

RomComPhooey · 03/04/2016 22:27

When I saw the credits I said to DH "Denis Haysbert, he played the president in something!" I looked on IMDB - it was in an early series of 24. Then DH said: "ohhh, you mean President Giantvoice" - which had been our nickname because he had such a deep voice in 24. It wasn't much in evidence in this, mainly because he was playing dead for a lot of it.

InformalMother · 03/04/2016 22:35

I had high hopes for this as the trailer looked good but I found it so confusing and chaotic.

I'll watch next weeks but if it's as hard to follow as tonight's then I won't watch again...

Cocolepew · 03/04/2016 22:35

I thought it was great

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 03/04/2016 22:35

And all the laughing at the obviously ASD child hmm

It wasn't done in an unkind, mocking way but within the context of a loving family who obviously adore him.

I agree that the 'children' all look too old.

AnyFucker · 03/04/2016 23:01

Occupied and Blue Eyes

where can these be found please ?

APotterWithAHappyAtmosphere · 03/04/2016 23:08

I thought it was amaaaazing, I was on the edge of my seat, face in hands. DH cried. I actually jumped when the man said 'go big' and got shivers down my spine.

I love the mystery and not knowing what's going on. Also the slow reveal of Adrian L's past catching up with him. Sophie Okonedo was brilliant.

RomComPhooey · 03/04/2016 23:11

For AF:

Occupied was on Sky Arts, which we get via cable. It was really, really good - the 'occupation' of Norway built really slowly and credibly over the course of a year (the episodes skip through the year, e.g. titled 'April', 'June'), with the tension ratcheting up. By the final episode, I was totally gripped and sniffled away sadly quite a bit because of various characters' trajectories. On Virgin, the first couple of episodes have dropped off the 'on demand' list but you might be able to get it on NowTV, which is a sky service you can pick up on a monthly subscription & drop without a lengthy contract (pretty much instant cancellation). It has been renewed for a 2nd series.

I think Blue Eyes is currently screening on More4 - I set a series link on Virgin using the search facility so haven't paid much attention to the details. I am pretty sure it is covered by Channel 4's 'Walter selects' service, so you may be able to watch online if you don't have cable.

AnyFucker · 03/04/2016 23:14

Thanks, RomCom. Will investigate. Am seriously into my Scandi stuff at the mo....they leave these BBC mini series way behind.

AnyFucker · 03/04/2016 23:16

"Go Big"

He kept saying that and I just thought why the fuck do you keep repeating some meaningless cliched bollocks ?

DorynownotFloundering · 03/04/2016 23:27

Maya was following the Death Row guy for 20 years because she was his solicitor from the beginning.

Nick was initially an undercover cop seeing what he could get out of the fledgling human rights lawyer back on the 80's but left the force when he fell in love with her.
They want him back because there was a big cover up /police brutality after a riot & there is now a new witness come forward which she will be able to learn about as DPP of she takes the job.
Nick is supposed to be dissuading her from applying but wants to support her & then is blackmailed by his former boss to go back to spying on her again or they'll tell her all about his past. His dad sting was just to underline how much he has had to give up I guess .

PageStillNotFound404 · 03/04/2016 23:37

There are two different 20 year old cases - the death row guy in Louisiana where Maya has been his defence lawyer from the beginning, and Michael Someone who I suspect is going to turn out to be the victim of a Stephen Lawrence-esque miscarriage of justice, only with police brutality rather than "just" institutionalised racism to blame (that's the vibe I got from the arrest flashback from 1996 anyway).

I found it relatively easy to follow and gripping enough to watch again next week, albeit it was afflicted with a few of the inevitable TV drama clichés and I thought the unexplained seizure was one potential plot line to be developed too many.

Travelledtheworld · 04/04/2016 00:25

I thought it was great !
Super black female lead.
Lots of tension.
Slow build up and then all revealed in the last five seconds of the episode.
Also Nick the husband was being sprayed with cold water because he is training for either a Triathlon or an endurance swimming event and he is acclimatising to cold water swimming. Hence the ice cubes in the bath.

Also somewhat baffled by the epileptic fit in the Louisiana field and the speedy recovery Confused.

AugustaFinkNottle · 04/04/2016 00:48

I found it reasonably easy to follow also. I thought the seizure was in essence a mirroring of what the guy on Death Row was going through at that moment. If they've been together for 20 years, the children aren't too old.

magimedi · 04/04/2016 07:09

I am reserving judgement until the next episode. I read one preview that said the first episode was confusing but worth persevering with.

RomComPhooey · 04/04/2016 07:23

It really felt like they'd thrown a couple of different scripts up in the air, then picked the pages up & filmed it as the randomly shuffled and mixed pages dictated for the first 30 min - US, lorry trope, UK, death row, UK, we shall overcome, Green Mile, hosing down in the dark UK, US field, UK courtroom etc. I'm hoping it settles into a more coherent groove from here on in.

Lottapianos · 04/04/2016 07:55

It was all a bit strange and not terribly coherent. Hopefully it will improve next week. And yes Adrian Lester really is delicious!

moodyblues · 04/04/2016 07:59

I thought it was fabulous, I cried like a baby when his dad died. Really looking forward to next week!

AlexandraEiffel · 04/04/2016 08:58

I thought it was brilliant.

And I'm finding it really interesting people struggled to follow. I usually really struggle to follow things, really struggle, but totally got this. So maybe was written for my brain.

moreshitandnofuckingredemption · 04/04/2016 09:04

The seizure was just to explain why the bloke from the jail could catch up with her an hour after she left, wasn't it? Sure it will happen again at some handy critical moment but it's just a plot device imo

moreshitandnofuckingredemption · 04/04/2016 09:07

And the hosing was about practising triathlon changes I think.
I really enjoyed it in the same way I enjoyed the Night Manager - hokey but v enjoyable. Hope it stays that fast-moving and doesn't get saggy in the middle.
