Anyone else think this looks good?

OP posts:
HalleLouja · 10/04/2016 22:34

That was much better. It built up the tension well.

That poor undercover copper with thorough habit, I felt for her.

hollyisalovelyname · 10/04/2016 22:52

I missed the first episode- i taped Home Fires by accident Sad
Could somebody fill me in please.
Watching episode 2 but confused.

raisedbyguineapigs · 10/04/2016 23:06

Episode 1 was mostly in the present day, with Maya in the US with the man on death row that Michael Antwi spoke to her about. Nick was a stay at home dad to the children. It was revealed at the end of episode 1 that has was an undercover cop when they met, so he has had to live under his assumed identity for 20 years so she wouldn't find out.

raisedbyguineapigs · 10/04/2016 23:08

Who was infiltrated in real life? Was it Greenham Common women or environmentalists wasn't it, and they had what they thought were genuine relationships. I can't remember if the police were reprimanded or anything for it.

Travelledtheworld · 10/04/2016 23:19

I thought tonight's episode was brilliant. Very tense. And wonderful to have two black actors in lead roles.
Well hooked on this drama.

hollyisalovelyname · 11/04/2016 00:44

Thank you Raised

cherrytree63 · 11/04/2016 06:29

I'm really enjoying it, and agree with PP that the new witness (and person lurking around their house) is the female under cover cop. I'm also guessing that it will be revealed she had a relationship with Nick.

tropical1 · 11/04/2016 09:08

Really enjoyed the second episode, I couldn't watch the scene where Michael was beaten up in the cell, too graphic for me.
I'm wondering how Nick gets away with his story of being a writer after he starts a proper relationship with Mya, surely she would be interested in seeing his work?

CrystalMcPistol · 11/04/2016 12:26

Last night's episode was much better than the first. Very tense.

So the Scottish guy who was on Maya's interview panel worked with Nick back in 1996? He must know who she's married to.

CrystalMcPistol · 11/04/2016 12:27

The scene in the cell was a pretty intense watch. Did they show who it was that opened the cell to allow the skinhead in?

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/04/2016 12:53

Just watched one. Quite good tho confusing

recap e1 here

Just about to watch two

One is on iplayer holly

watch here

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/04/2016 12:54

Was rudy having his limbs drilled into?? Shock

Why didn't the injection work?

JapanNextYear · 11/04/2016 12:59

Injections apparently quite often don't work, I remember reading an article about it once. I think they were trying to put a line into him of some kind.

I'm watching it, but do find it quite unsettling - the acting is fantastic. Not sure I can stand watching it all - I found the end last night really hard to watch.

umiaisha · 11/04/2016 13:34

I think it is brilliantly written and raises some very real issues about the police back then.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/04/2016 16:25

Just watched 2 so finally up to count

recap e2

Think this drama is really good and excellent to have 2 black actors in lead roles. So so so love ADRIAN. Esp in hustle :)

So if I have got this right

AL is a cop and goes undercover 20yrs back to purposely meet SO

So tbh their whole life and relationship is a lie :( she will be distraught when finds out

MICHEAL gets killed in the cell as someone opened the door and allows the skin head in

Corrupt /Other man /head police who I recognise said to leave him As needed riot stuff but luckily uncorrupt policeman ignores

So how does he die as alive when out of cell

Why didn't AL go to his dad's funeral. Even sitting at the back

And small ashes. When dh was creminated there was a lot more ashes :(

squoosh · 11/04/2016 16:37

Yep. That summary seems about right Blondes. Not sure how Michael died, either later on from the injuries given by the skinhead or maybe someone else (police?) finish him off? They might show that next week in a flashback.

I was sad that Nick didn't go to his dad's funeral either. Surely he could have thought of some excuse to leave the family holiday early.

Agree that it's great to see two black leads. Especially in a show that isn't about the usual urban grit etc. Adrian Lester has such a trustworthy face doesn't he? I'd believe anything he said! Grin

Poor Maya's going to get the mother of all shocks at some point.

hollyisalovelyname · 11/04/2016 17:38

Blondes firstly sorry to hear your dh has passed away. Thanks
I am not in UK so I can't get iplayer.
I can understand that as I don't pay the license fee.
I wish the beeb would repeat some of their programmes late at night.

umiaisha · 11/04/2016 20:15

Blondes - the police 'killed' him be sending in the skinhead and then restraining him forcibly when he wasn't struggling I think.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/04/2016 21:52

Thanks holly 5 yrs this sat :(

Have you got sky? Is it on demand ?

True about police sending skin head in - tho is that premeditated murder? Or manslaughter as was alive when left the Cell

Howaboutthisone · 12/04/2016 22:15

Well dh put so I've finally caught up on this. That cell scene was chilling and made me feel sick. I'm finding it well written, filmed and acted so far. Not sure I'm going to sleep well tonight after watching that scene now though.

NotJanine · 13/04/2016 09:31

Really enjoying this. Wondering at what stage did Nick actually start to have feelings for Maya.

At first I did think that the 2 leads looked too young for their parts (although looking up their actual ages, they are older than I thought) but it does work that they can also play their younger selves.

legoqueen · 16/04/2016 18:39

I've found this compelling, but anyone else think that the history/chronology isn't quite right - I grew up in Sarf London & think the demos/grassroots activism was late seventies to mid 80s, while crack etc was mid 90s onwards - feels like they've merged a couple of decades which weakens the authenticity. Great acting though, & I predict crack addict cop will cause him trouble next week...

Davros · 17/04/2016 10:01

I agree about the history/chronology but I suppose it's dramatic licence. I didn't think that was Michael in the cell, I thought it was Maya's boyfriend and Michael was on a slab elsewhere
