I'm not familiar with the story, but the trailers for it look awesome.

I can't see anything with both Hugh Laurie and Tom Hiddleston in, as well as Olivia Colman being bad, can you?

Loved it! Though I don't think Jed would be looking so fresh after her ordeal, and why would you wear a sleeveless top when your arms are bruised?!

I still think there's a chance Dickie will worm his way out, he's got enough worldwide contacts and money. Season 2 being set up nicely....

GypsyFl0ss · 27/03/2016 22:04

Not wholly sure about this episode but did love the exchanges between Angela and Joel with him calling her Ange and fussing over her. I was convinced she was going to give birth in Egypt and also wondered how on earth she managed to get there whilst massively pregnant!

TheSpottedZebra · 27/03/2016 22:06

Who got into the back with Roper, Sophie's relatives?

Travelledtheworld · 27/03/2016 22:06

Yes, I thought she would probably go into labour too. Must have had a private flight to Egypt.....

BirthdayBetty · 27/03/2016 22:06

bloody hell, that was brilliant, story, screenplay and acting. Kept my mind and heart racing and questions, fantastic.

thecatfromjapan · 27/03/2016 22:09

Zebra - Remember Mr. I'm going to buy all the nasty weapons? The one who wanted his money back? It was him, and his men.

CaveMum · 27/03/2016 22:09

TheSpottedZebra, no it was the "clients" and their heavies from the deal that went wrong.

BossWitch · 27/03/2016 22:10

Aaaaaand relax. Breathe. Wait for heart rate to go back down.

Phew. I'm enjoying the idea that Roper is to be killed off in a very nasty way. Well played Tree, very well played!

I thought there was a pleasing symmetry to the whole thing - back to the same hotel, a girlfriend of a bad man, but this time he was able to act to stop it. Also liked that he didn't tell Roper about Sophie, that he left him wondering who he was / where he came from / why. And liked that Burr was willing to let Roper et al get carted off, rather than trying to do the proper thing. That smile as he was driven off was marvellous.

Other than the magically drying suit and shoes, nothing too silly either really.

And on a side note, I have never wanted to be anyone more than Olivia Coleman when Hiddles hugged her. Swoon Blush

Hassled · 27/03/2016 22:10

My god, I am EXHAUSTED after watching that. So, so good. I kept expecting Jed to die horribly, even when she got in the car at the end.

witsender · 27/03/2016 22:10

He'll send them after Pine.

Hassled · 27/03/2016 22:11

And I'm overlooking the fact you can't fly past 28 weeks and so Burr must have caught a cruise ship to Egypt.

ethelb · 27/03/2016 22:11

It was the people they had taken $300million from they couldn't give back. They are sooo going to torture him to death.
The thing that jumps out at me is I presumed they bought Pine back to the Nefertiti to torment him, but actually he knew it so well it was almost unbelievably to his advantage.

LadyPeterWimsey · 27/03/2016 22:12

Compared to the book, it's been left wiiiiiiide open for a second season.

(Hope that's not a spoiler. Wink)

Holeypurplesocks · 27/03/2016 22:13

Loved it from behind a cushion
How does the book ending differ? I'm guessing the heavies didn't take over from the Egyptian police?

thecatfromjapan · 27/03/2016 22:13

Wrt the dry suit: I assumed he was suave enough to get changed after murder.

LadyPeterWimsey · 27/03/2016 22:14

I could tell you the book ending but then I'd have to kill you someone would accuse me of spoiling the book. Wink

Awholelottanosy · 27/03/2016 22:15

Curious as to how this is different from the book, for those of you who have read it?

Awholelottanosy · 27/03/2016 22:16

And loved how he ordered a vodka martini in the bar scene. So James Bond!

thecatfromjapan · 27/03/2016 22:16

If they torture Roper to death, they won't get their 300 mill back. There's wiggle room for Roper.

BossWitch · 27/03/2016 22:17

Yep I liked that too ethel, I thought it was a good contrast between the influence of the WMITW and the influence that Pine had built in Egypt as a good man who treated people well.

I am wondering where the hell he sent 300mil though! Has he given some to Jed, to fund her going home to her family?

NeverEverAnythingEver · 27/03/2016 22:17
Smile

I'm pleased that the nice people didn't die.

What to do with Sunday nights now?

LadyPeterWimsey · 27/03/2016 22:18

In general terms, the good guys don't win nearly so definitively in the book - it's a lot more ambiguous. Jonathan does ok though.

ethelb · 27/03/2016 22:19

Really. I havent read the book but it seemed pretty open and shut.
Roper's gonna be dead.
His nasty hench men are gonna be dead.
Corky's dead.
Jed/jem (wtf was it?!) has gone home
Pine is probs going to follow her and 'commit' (he can't bring that one night stand back from the dead can he?)
Olivia Colman did want she wanted and is going to have a bubba. Though not much of a career to go back to..
Man from homeland is ok.
Hailo has been scuppled

Am I being dim but where are you going to go from there?

LaurieFairyCake · 27/03/2016 22:19

We just loved it so much. So well acted - we were actually cheering when the arms blew up.

Just delicious. Olivia Coleman was just fantastic. Great acting from Hugh Laurie, particularly that end scene in the truck.

Yes, Tom would be a fabulous Bond. Better than Tom hardy - he's too thug looking for me.

witsender · 27/03/2016 22:19

Way more ambiguous, very LeCarre. I think he could/would send them after Pine for their money back, maybe part 2...
