you all make of Lily painting that fabric footstool?

It looked ok but surely not practical? Is acrylic paint flammable? Will it crack? This is the problem with crafty diy projects.



ppeatfruit · 16/02/2016 11:46

Yes LoisWilker someone did that to a settee in a last series and I thought ,like you, what is it going to look like in 6 weeks? Shock

absolutelynotfabulous · 16/02/2016 12:20

Can anyone else remember the armchair done in chalk paint from last series. The designer won, I think.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/02/2016 12:23

I thought the dark green was atrocious - Pond Scum - so yes, a colour found in nature, but in the yuckier bits of nature that I wouldn't want reflected in my house!

Rachel's hair mesmerised me - it was definitely wearing her, rather than the other way around.

Bits of Jamie's room were OK, but I didn't love it. And he pissed me off with his attitude - it's not about what he wants, it's about what the homeowners want - and he just didn't seem to grasp that.

But for me, the worst thing of the day was Lily's frilly lampshade - I wanted to kill that with fire. There is no way on God's clean earth that I would allow such an abomination into my house. Painting the footstool seemed ridiculous to me - I can't imagine it being useful, attractive or durable.

ppeatfruit · 16/02/2016 12:28

Yes absolutely That's what I meant, chalk paint! I bet it doesn't look good now!

SDTG Yes pond scum!!!! YUCK

Jamie is 21 so explains his attitude IMO.

Yes I wondered wtf about the lampshade, all that work for what? Hmm

OTheHugeManatee · 16/02/2016 12:52

SDTG - the ra-ra lampshade made me cry with laughter Grin

I snorted as well at the way Jamie interpreted 'traditional Scandi' to mean IKEA. Then I thought, well, he is only 21, to him IKEA is 'traditional' Shock

Cocolepew · 16/02/2016 13:17

Do they have to make stuff? I'm sure people who make their living at interior design aren't sitting at home of an evening with a hot glue gun and some glitter

Cocolepew · 16/02/2016 13:18

You know whats been missing so far? People "sourcing " stuff. That's all we heard last series.

OTheHugeManatee · 16/02/2016 13:22

There's been a slight decline in 'shabby chic' and bunting as well

FelicityLemon · 16/02/2016 14:01

That was the right result I think, none of them really got me terribly excited though.
I'd quite like a homeowner to ask for a minimalist look, that would really test creativity and cut down on the 'more is more' trend.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 16/02/2016 14:03

I am going to miss seeing Rachel's hair, lots of discussion here whether it was a wig or not

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 16/02/2016 14:28

he is only 21, to him IKEA is 'traditional'

GrinDespite this huge faux pas, he did have some good ideas, I can see why they're giving him another chance.
I quite liked the big curly hair wig Blush

FelicityLemon · 16/02/2016 15:26

To be fair IKEA was started by a 17 year old so there might be something in that! Grin

ppeatfruit · 16/02/2016 17:00

Sorry I missed your question Shehasawildheart Yes I've been inspired to never ever let an interior designer anywhere near our house Grin. I would be the client from hell, I know what I like and hate what I don't Grin I do it in my own house and love it!!

OTheHugeManatee · 16/02/2016 17:07

The one thing the programme has inspired me to do is think a bit more creatively about fabrics. I'm halfway through a major renovation and while I've got a well-defined palette for the walls I always dither about curtain/soft furnishing colours. I've got three sets of curtains to make in the next few months, so just been through a few fabric websites and ordered about a billion samples Grin

ppeatfruit · 16/02/2016 17:11

You're not going to get some 2nd hand fabric and chalk paint it are you Othe huge? Grin

OTheHugeManatee · 16/02/2016 17:22
Shock
LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 16/02/2016 18:07

Sounds fun ohuge I I'm great at planning what I would do but not actually doing it! I'm in a drab semi and its in dire need of an overhall. I think that's why I'm not digging this series, I want ideas dammit!

annandale · 16/02/2016 18:30

It's inspired me to embrace the non-designed nature of our house, and someone would put blue paint on my beloved and only nice cupboard over my dead body. Though I can now hear Tom emoting 'The living room was tatty and tired' whenever I look at it.

GrouchyKiwi · 16/02/2016 18:44

Do you want to come and do my house too OHuge? I'm beginning to lose interest. Paint choices are so hard (in some rooms) without adding fabrics into it!

GrouchyKiwi · 16/02/2016 19:04

Kitchens at this stage is tough. I hope someone does something brilliant to give me ideas for mine.

absolutelynotfabulous · 16/02/2016 19:36

I'm not sure about the "curtains in front of the oven" ideaHmm

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/02/2016 19:39

How is the hessian on the wall going to be kept clean? You get sticky, slightly oily dust in a kitchen, not to mention splatters of food etc - that hessian will be impossible to clean.

absolutelynotfabulous · 16/02/2016 19:48

I quite like the market garden one with the arty carrots...

SealSong · 16/02/2016 19:51

Love the market garden one. I could live with that; love the colours.
