Jesus, pix - coat hangers??

Glad it's not just me that thinks it's a bit off (Mr J doesn't give a shit, but he'd still happily let her do everything for him). Think it's probably well intentioned but I felt it was a bit of a dig at the size of the washing pile. We had a moment just before Christmas too - she 'popped by' as she tends to do Confused and noticed I had two bags of broken toys and just really worn stuff of the boys that I wouldn't even give to the charity shop. She asked what they were and I told her they were for the dump. She literally opened the bags in front of me, and started telling me I shouldn't be chucking it out. When I told her I absolutely was, she said she would take them to the dump for me. I am 99% sure she took them home instead, she can't bear to get rid of anything. Hmm. Will stop with the in law rants now, that was quite therapeutic.

pixieg1rl · 21/01/2016 18:52

It puts the 20year old plastic tablecloth into perspective. That's what you get for providing her with a grandchild Grin

You have my sympathies about the not throwing anything away Jen. MrP comes from a long line of hoarders and it drives me crazy.

cjwoofwoof · 21/01/2016 18:59

No problems here with MIL routing out my smalls - they're usually hanging from the chandelier for all the world to see after a particularly robust visit from Manu or AT Grin

Ah yes orph I do remember Toulouse fondly; somewhat of a benchmark for all my future sausage fantasising...

Richtea19 · 21/01/2016 19:47

Coat hangers!!!! You must feel so special!!

jen I wouldn't like anyone going down our linen basket, don't think anyone would want to!!! What is it about MIL and their control of their little boys. DH will drop anything for his mum, drives me bloody mad!

Rhubarb01 · 21/01/2016 19:59

A daughter's a daughter all your life a son's a son 'till he takes a wife - or maybe not??

Rhubarb01 · 21/01/2016 20:40

Thinking about those coathangers again - a friend of mine gave me two floral padded coat hangers as a present once - odd but practical I suppose. She often gives strangeish presents to my DC's as well. They're always a bit worried when a parcel comes their way and we all hold our breath. It is meant with great kindness and very thoughtful but they've reached an age when money or vouchers is usually the safest option.

Rhubarb01 · 21/01/2016 21:15

BTW - did not mean to cause any offence by stating the old addage above which seems to have killed discussion - oops! I feel like I should give a statement here which is the reverse of the one we were instructed at work to give in respect of any comments we post on social media about our employer (in that case it was along the lines of any views expressed are solely personal opinion and don't reflect the views of the company - as if you are going to slag off your employer on a public forum and actually put your real name to it unless you are expecting or wanting a P45!!) Anyway the reverse is stated here which is the sentence re mums and children above does not necessarily reflect my own views on the subject Smile

orphan · 21/01/2016 21:28

Ha rhubarb I'm afraid I was still brooding on the coat hanger issue! I have to confess I have a slight coat hanger neurosis and do like 'a good one'. Wooden ones are ok, as are padded ones. Flipped hinged ones are not.

As for sons, at this moment I'd be quite happy if mine found a wife to take over (yes, I know he's only 19) cos so far this deferred year before uni is driving me mad. I feel like our house is simply a place to drop his laundry and a fridge to raid.

MaddieMoo82 · 21/01/2016 21:33

No offence here either rhubarb Smile. Like I say do like a wooden one ahem but not those horrible wirey metal ones! Anyway I'm moving off coat hanger chat now Wink

Nickel45 · 21/01/2016 21:35

Hee hee rhu. For some reason both of my kids have decided to play up tonight, so popping in here for some sanity between being in each of their bedrooms (DD is insisting she doesn't want a quilt and wants to sleep under all her dolls blankets, which have "somehow" all ended up on a heap on the floor, three times now, for me to put back on ... apparently dumping them in a heap on top of here and telling her to go to sleep, isn't good enough!).

KellyHb · 21/01/2016 21:38

Why am I always eating when I read something funny on here and nearly make myself choke?! Smile

Coat hangers pix?! They sound pretty snazzy those ones, I must say. I suppose you could say she's taking care of the little things in life. Confused

jen. I know what you mean about the underwear/MIL scenario. When I was in hospital for a month before I had the twins, I used to send my dirty laundry home with DH thinking he would do it for me but oh no, he would give it to his mother to do (as she was staying at ours to help out) which included my underwear!! I was mortified. Shock

Nothing as embarrassing as your MIL walking in on you accidentally when you have nothing on either!! That is absolutely mortifying ShockShock

Rhubarb01 · 21/01/2016 21:50

Nickel I still have bedtime issues with my DS even though he's at secondary school now. He has a tendency to go off to bed at a reasonably late time - he still needs to be told though - but he wanders back downstairs at about 11.30 , sits on the sofa and decides that is the time to unburden himself about issues in general. (sometimes it's important and I do need to listen but sometimes he just bored or can't sleep whereas I'm usually half asleep or actually asleep in the chair) Oh and not that long ago he also used to go and sleep under his bed - it's a midsleeper. I'd take a look in the room and not be able to see him because he was sleeping behind a curtain.

pixieg1rl · 21/01/2016 21:55

I will concentrate on enjoying DS before he becomes one more a pain in the arse that expects me to cook and pick up after him. MrP would merrily let his mum do everything for him. I'm grateful that she doesn't drive or else she'd be round here every day telling me I'm not cleaning enough.

Rhubarb01 · 21/01/2016 21:56

Anyone watching Jericho - it's a bit like a Western set in Yorkshire? Saw a none to complimentary article by the RT editor (yes she loved OG as well - not) in which she said she was fixated by the strange circle of plaits on the head of the heroine (Jessica Raine - CTM). Actually, have to say it doesn't require too much thought power. Will save that for Question Time later - I strangely like that as I think I am learning something!

KellyHb · 21/01/2016 22:07

I've been temporary blinded by watching two minutes of Celebrity Big Brother and I couldn't find the remote to turn it over. What a trash programme. Shock

Ilovelblue · 21/01/2016 22:07

Evening ladies, leave you alone for a bit and I come back to find the conversation is all about MILs and coathangers. Hmm, I've already shared with you I think that when I was engaged to Mr Ilove and staying in his house at weekends (as he worked away a large part of the week at that time), his mother used to remove my dressing gown from behind his bedroom door and put it in one of his spare rooms, along with various toiletry items, so there's not really a lot about MILs which can surprise me. She was definitely one to root around when we weren't there.

The former Mr Ilove was a hoarder, in fact I bet he still is. When we parted company, I had for some reason taken a pack of dishcloths which had belonged to one of his deceased aunts. Looking back on it, I probably did it out of spite but he was incensed and insisted I gave them back.

As for the coathangers, I am with orphan. I can't be doing with thin plastic ones or worse, wire ones. All mine are shop bought padded ones or ones I've covered myself with lace material.

Nickel45 · 21/01/2016 22:11

Still, all this talk to coathangers must be giving SPO some ideas for the next chapter (please :))

Rhubarb01 · 21/01/2016 22:22

Oh yes more coathanger stories - DH and I got locked out of our car once many years ago in Ireland parked by a lake near Killarney surrounded by the worst midges I have ever encountered, We were saved by a lovely man coming back from a walk with his family who announced he could help as he had a boot full of coathangers of the wire variety. He proceeded to fashion a hook that he managed to squeeze inside through a small crack between the window and the rubber seal - no central locking on that car. He assured us he wasn't a professional car thief - he worked in the dry cleaning business. They do have their uses - I'm thinking temporary analogue TV aerial ooh and the Blue Peter Christmas Candle Crown - two coat handers, flame proof tinsel - anyone remember?

Ilovelblue · 21/01/2016 22:25

I certainly remember the Blue Peter coathanger creation Rhubarb, yes!

Years ago I left my car keys in the car (as you say, pre-central locking) and I worked with lots of (male) engineers who all claimed they would be able to open the car door with a wire coathanger, but all of them failed. In the end, my boss lent me his car to drive home to get my spare set of keys. It certainly taught me a lesson though and I never did it again.

Alwaysfrank · 21/01/2016 22:30

Personally I can't be doing with padded coat hangers- plastic all the way for me, I'm classyWink

Rhubarb01 · 21/01/2016 22:37

I do like a good trouser hanger!

cjwoofwoof · 21/01/2016 22:45

And I like a good hanger in the trouser Rhu Blush

Rhubarb01 · 21/01/2016 22:48

I just knew you wouldn't be able to resist woof Smile

BK28 · 21/01/2016 22:51

Wow things have moved on from my afternoon lurk in the office... now on the subject of coat hangers pix is she actually planning to name in the will, that is just plain weird!! but I can happily say I have a pile of the Blue Peter Xmas Crown type, but we use them for making pizzas over an open fire with the Cubs. I'm not sure whether that is safer than the flame retardant tinsel Rhub

jen I have to admit that if anyone wants to come in and do my washing , including the undies section they are more than welcome and if they follow up with the ironing I'll love them even more. Actually both my DM and MIL have done that when they have seen I am under total melt down with RL and it does take the pressure off and unless you are all hiding some nice 50sog bits of lace etc most of them have probably seen most types of smalls going!?! Grin I might of married the MILs DS but my wedding vows certainly didn't include any clauses on house work, laundry, baking or sandwich making!!! All of which I don't make a song and dance over life is too short!!

I hope you have had some time with the DS today pix and he had a good day! I used to get on a guilt trip over the party thing as my DS is an August boy, so I either had to be super organised before term broke up or scrabble around to find a couple of mates who weren't away!! Mother guilt!!

cjwoofwoof · 21/01/2016 23:27

This is the only type of hanger in my wardrobe pix - probably very similar to your MILs self-portraited antique collection from her vaudeville days performing raucous Irish shanties at the Ipswich Empire during The Blitz
