Ah woof I'm hoping to brush up on my spraying techniques with said highlander. My hand stretching exercises just completed as I think there'll be a hell of a lot of cuppage going on.

cjwoofwoof · 13/01/2016 15:03

Yes kel it does indeed take years of practice before you can be rightly awarded the Cup n Smear champions bauble. Most people take it on the chin obvs when I win for the 10th year running; orph springs to mind as she always carried a Kleenex handy pack back in the 80s for when she came second after me...

MaddieMoo82 · 13/01/2016 16:10

I think outlander job abilities would be happy to get dirty/muddy all day long, willing to spend most of your day kneeling between a pair of thighs/multiple thighs, required at short notice for thigh touch ups, and regulary cuppage to check the amount of mud required (sounds like you have this one sorted kelly)

Onlygirljen · 13/01/2016 17:05

kelly a quick Google search has confirmed that the studio is a 20 min drive from me - want me to drop a CV in for you? Grin I'll take one for the team and do it nothing to do with waiting for Sam Heughan to show up for filming obviously Hmm

pixieg1rl · 13/01/2016 17:48

Cor, lucky you Jen. Any of your children likely to develop a keen interest in film-making in the next few weeks?

Ilovelblue · 13/01/2016 22:34

It's been very quiet on here all week. Hope nobody is succumbing to decompression?

I've been so lethargic all week. I've come home from work, had tea and just slobbed in front of the television. Really, really hard to get back into the swing of work. Everyone seems to feel the same way.

Even though it was frosty this morning, it's now raining again. Well, there's a surprise. It's forecasting sleet and snow for the early hours of tomorrow morning. I don't think the wet weather which has been ongoing now for well over a month is helping people's spirits either.

KellyHb · 13/01/2016 22:38

I'll Fed-Ex my CV over to you Jen asap! I'll put in a bottle of whisky too as a sweetener to the director. Smile

Lucky you though. Find out if Jamie might do the Highland fling with you Wink

Onlygirljen · 14/01/2016 07:52

Might have to convince DH to come up with an interest in film making, he was put on redundancy risk a few days ago Confused. Good way to start 2016....Anybody got any life affirming stories about how redundancy was the best thing that ever happened to them? We are sorely in need of them at the moment!!

ilove I know what you mean, I'm knackered being back at work - really struggling to get back into the swing of it all. Need CJ to pay a visit and get me going Wink

pixieg1rl · 14/01/2016 08:45

This time last year we were told that the company MrP worked for was closing and all jobs would go Jen. It did close, he did lose his job but he got a new one at 10K more than before.

At this point stop reading this to MrJ. He hates this job, he regularly works 7am-10pm and is stressed at the internal politics of the new place and his micromanaging boss.

I'm sure once the arse-clenching panic subsides you can help him come up with strategies for brushing up on his skills/networks/portfolio etc. Are they offering any assistance to staff at risk of redundancy like career counselling etc?

KellyHb · 14/01/2016 09:16

Morning.

Ah sorry to hear that jen. DH was made redundant a couple of years ago and we had a complete panic about it money wise as his is the only wage that comes into the house but luckily he got another job a couple of months later that he really likes. Fingers crossed it doesn't come to redundancy stage but if it does, hopefully MrJ may end up getting a better job. Thinking of you. Flowers

On weather related news, its snowing really heavily here. It was atrocious driving conditions getting to the school this morning. Hopefully it'll stop soon but I doubt it. I might have to walk at dinnertime to get the boys.

MaddieMoo82 · 14/01/2016 09:41

Argh jen that's really rubbish! No experience of it here I'm afraid so I'm a bit usless but sending hugs your way and hope things are ok for you and mrJ Flowers

My parents are coming over in a mo to do a bit of a curtain pole repair job. DS rolled off with the curtain in his hand pulling the bracket half out of the wall! It's a bit beyond MrMads abilities and not worth the stress of asking him to try so hopefully they can sort it before it falls out of the wall

take care kelly, weather sounds bad. It snows about once very 20 years here and 1cm of the stuff causes traffic gridlock!

Nickel45 · 14/01/2016 10:10

Sending big hugs jen. I got made redundant 15 years back, and it is pretty common in the industry I am in. Every six months of so there is a cull, but luckily it's not affected my job yet (I'm keeping my head down and hopefully flying under the radar!)

The payout helps a little, and gives you a bit of breathing space. Check whether you have any insurance on your mortgage to cover redundancy - my DH (boyfriend at the time - we worked at the same place, which was shut down) had his mortgage paid for him for several months while he was looking for new work. Also worth signing on, as it means national insurance contributions are continued. Well, that was the case back then, but his company should provide some sort of advice. If they don't, CAB will. I know I wouldn't have left the company if I wasn't made redundant, but I went on to a better job, so it was really a good kick up the backside to do something! If he is in a job where there are head hunting agencies, I'd get him to get his name down asap, just in case. I know it's impossible not to worry about it, but it's out of your hands. Hoping it all works ok xxx

Nickel45 · 14/01/2016 10:13

I've succumbed to the lurgy today, so working from home. I was thinking of you pixie, as I am just about to go and put the heating on!!! I didn't last very long, did I! Mind, I don't have a slanket. DS was in bed with me last night, so between him and not being able to breath (me, dramatic ... never!) I didn't get much sleep, very tempted to lie down and have a nap now!!

And it's started snowing ....! :)

KellyHb · 14/01/2016 12:45

Ah no!!! Just heard Alan Rickman's died of cancer. I'm sad about this as he was one of my favourite actors.

What is happening at the minute? Its like actors/singers you didn't know were ill have suddenly died. Unless they were very private about their illness of course.

kuiakaituhi · 14/01/2016 14:51

Really sad about Alan Rickman. I only had to hear him start talking to laugh. My all time favourite was his Sheriff of Nottingham in Robin Hood.Utterly brilliant.
I guess Kelly he belongs to the 60-70s generation like David Bowie.Death is just part of life and as you get older the time ahead is shorter than the time before.
Both those men have left an amazing body of work behind and will never be forgotten

kuiakaituhi · 14/01/2016 15:11

Also I think it must be very hard to always have your life under scrutiny, with people who have no claim on you wanting to know it all. It goes with the territory, of course, but when it comes to illness and dying, I think privacy should be something to be respected at all times if that is what the person wants.
True of all of us I think.

Richtea19 · 14/01/2016 16:04

jen sorry to hear about the risk of redundancy. DH works for himself but that has worries, no holiday/sick/pension pay.! I would love him to have a normal job but then like you it also has its worries. Hugs to you all and fingers crossed for a good outcome Thanks

No snow but bloody freezing! Heating on full blast

Onlygirljen · 14/01/2016 16:58

Thanks all for the redundancy advice. He's in a situation where he's really not enjoying his job, works far too hard and feels like he can't make any career progression, so if he manages to get something else then it may actually be a blessing in disguise. All we can do is wait out for now I suppose. No redundancy cover on the mortgage unfortunately Confused!!

moojangles · 14/01/2016 18:18

jen sorry yo hear about DH risk of redundancy. Fingers crossed that all works out for the best.

BK28 · 14/01/2016 19:35

jen sorry to hear your news.. DH went through a major reshuffle couple of years back where his post didn't exist in the new structure, I just felt total panic, but have to agree with nickels comments... get his name on any agencies listings early, take any advice sessions on offer, it can be a crossroads to new opportunities, sign on at the DWP. start looking early, but don't jeopardise any redundancy terms/ payouts by jumping ship to quickly. Try not to expend energy on worrying about the bits you have no control over, save that for the things you can! Good luck and thinking about you! xx

Ilovelblue · 14/01/2016 22:26

Evening all. Been out with friends tonight so not a night for slobbing out in front of the telly like I've been doing the rest of the week.

Jen I've been through three years on the trot where redundancy has been on the cards in my current company and I would concur wholeheartedly with both Nickel and BK. It's a fine line between taking a new job you see advertised/hear about/contacted via an agency etc and not jeopardising your redundancy terms if he's been there long enough to stand getting a reasonable payout. Difficult not to worry but it's true that it's not worth spending energy worrying about something you can't influence.

Nickel hope you're feeling better tonight.

Richtea19 · 15/01/2016 07:23

Brrrr cold this morning, off to work but just the morning, yippee!

pix, orph, jen just seen on the breakfast news that sales of Gin were up last year.... Emmmm, just a thought!

icemistOBE · 15/01/2016 07:48

Morning,

Day off again, January is so busy at work I'm mentally exhausted when I finish for the day.

Sad about Alan Rickman. Loved him in Robin Hood and thought he was great as Snape in Harry Potter, really brought the character to life.

Sorry to read about hubby's work Jen been there myself on 2 occasions but was lucky the first time and 2nd they wouldn't accept me for voluntary redundancy unfortunately. But the 2nd was enough to push me into a new job after mat leave so worked out well.

Thanks all. I'm trying not to stress too much about it. My one and only resolution this year is to marry CJ try and stop stressing so much about things I can't control - this is testing me though!!

rich has reminded me that I can at least rely on my gin filled booze cupboard Grin

MaddieMoo82 · 15/01/2016 08:20

Sounds like a good resolution jen (especially the CJ bit Smile)
Lovely pics ice especially number 2... I think that's my favourite.

Anyone got snow? Very icy here but actually sunny. Am so tired today, quite worried about functioning when back at work especially since I found the coffee jar in the fridge this morning Shock after freaking out that I couldn't find coffee
