Heads up for series 4 starting tonight, hooray. But it clashes with War and Peace Sad. Dilemma.

Loved the 'Night of the Demon' reference!

Did anyone else catch the 'Jaws'references? Loved the bit where the pathologist was examining the severed arm using almost identical dialogue to that of Richard Dreyfuss, except they substituted Lizzie Borden for Jack the Ripper.

pizzaeatingmonkey · 24/01/2016 16:39

I seem to remember they were foxgloves as I told DP that our garden would look like that this summer, as I've grown loads.

openthecurtains · 24/01/2016 21:24

Loving the Sergeant Vimes of Cable Street reference tonight!

BitOfFun · 24/01/2016 22:22

I don't understand why Joan left? Anyone?

Akire · 24/01/2016 22:28

For end of series was rather up
In the air. Did like morse at end and showing how he felt but wasn't sure why Joan left either. Presume she didn't want to go work at bank after shooting but lots of other jobs around.
Wish they had cleared up the investigation after he beat up that guy do we don't know if he will get job back or not?

fastdaytears · 24/01/2016 22:28

So glad you asked that Bit

Am I being thick?

Samcro · 24/01/2016 22:29

i decided it was cos she loves morse and he loves her.
but it cant happen(??no idea why not)

does her dad die??

musicinspring1 · 24/01/2016 22:37

I'm on plus one. It's exciting but you know that morse must survive so takes the edge off it a bit!

musicinspring1 · 24/01/2016 22:38

And who is Sargeant vimes? ?

CustardLover · 24/01/2016 22:39

But why? Why? Because she felt guilty about Ronnie? Because she saw her dad not kill someone? Whyyyyyy?

Tigresswoods · 24/01/2016 22:41

Another one here who doesn't really understand Joan running away.

Tigresswoods · 24/01/2016 22:42

Another one here who doesn't really understand Joan running away.

Samcro · 24/01/2016 22:54

i think
she wants

to leave the series

GruntledOne · 24/01/2016 22:55

We also know that Strange must survive, so again we knew he was safe during the shoot-out.

Do we take it that Thursday is cured now he's coughed up that bit of shrapnel?

DanyellasDonkey · 24/01/2016 22:57

Hmm but of a naff ending. I don't like things not being fully explained.

Try as I might I can't take Shaun Evans seriously. Some of his facial expressions remind me of Frank Spencer. I keep waiting for him to say "Ooh Betty"

musicinspring1 · 24/01/2016 22:59

Frustrating ending. Meh. When is the next series?

MartinRohdesBellybuttonFluff · 24/01/2016 23:00

I think poor Joan was pregnant and felt she couldn't stay Sad

Akire · 24/01/2016 23:26

Dosnt make sense about her being pregnant because there was very little suppor for single parents, there wasn't even equal pay and a lot of respectable places woulnt consider employing a lose woman!

So pretty low chance she have of renting a place and paying for childcare on a sectories wage.

mercifulTehlu · 24/01/2016 23:36

I love Endeavour Smile. So glad that Thursday didn't die (yet). Loved the Vimes of Cable Street reference (it's from Terry Pratchett, for those who aren't familiar with his books).
I think Joan left because she felt bad about having hung around with that dodgy bloke, was traumatised after the robbery and felt freaked out after seeing her dad nearly shoot a man in cold blood. Plus maybe having feelings for Morse but not sure whether he feels the sane or whether it would be too weird because he works with her dad. Sad though - wanted her and Morse to get together!

polyhymnia · 25/01/2016 09:46

Sorry, don't think Joan and Morse are very well suited so didn't believe in his 'love' for her. The new woman PC is a better match for him in fact - closer to being his intellectual equal.

I think they've left the options for Thursday open, just as at end of last series when we didn't know if he'd die or not. He could still be about to die soon or coughing up the shrapnel ( I thought that scene was ludicrously unrealistic) may have saved him.

StillStayingClassySanDiego · 25/01/2016 11:43

I enjoyed last night's episode, better than the Tiger one!

Dammit Morse, you should have told her you loved her.

Anyone else note that Joan was in Shetland too as Leanne?

blackbunny · 25/01/2016 19:43

I didn't understand the coughing up of the bullet either, was there a point to that?
Oh and Fred Thursday as I see his character, just wouldn't have got involved with a (illegal?) gun,he's above that
I thought that at the end of last series, he's too much integrity
Hope Freds back for next series,he's my fave character

diddl · 25/01/2016 21:06

I'm also not sure why Joan ran away.

Other than that the actress wants out!

I would think after herdad nearly dying last time & Morse this, she doesn't want to get involved with a copper!

Akire · 25/01/2016 21:21

Presume they had told him we can't operate on bullet so it was starting effect his health with all the coughing and worrying glances. So if he did cough it up that's got to be miracle cure?

polyhymnia · 26/01/2016 00:15

Roger Allam who plays Thursday is a great actor - brilliant on stage - in great demand, so may well want to keep his options open for a while before deciding on another series.
