Heads up for series 4 starting tonight, hooray. But it clashes with War and Peace Sad. Dilemma.

OP posts:

Decided to give it another go as I never got into the first 2 series properly. Somehow Shaun Evans just doesn't ring true as a young Morse. I can't imagine his character turning into the Morse I loved.

I really enjoy Lewis, but find Endeavour really dull and tedious,

MitzyLeFrouf · 15/01/2016 12:44

I should like this but I don't. Shaun Evans' expressions range from blank to gormless. I just can't warm to him at all and I cannot convince myself to believe he's Morse.

Sorry Shaun.

Helenluvsrob · 17/01/2016 20:18

Ooh. Interesting. Hathaways dad as a young man and , if I'm not mistaken, a cameo role for a baby james Hathaway just thrn in the garden?

polyhymnia · 17/01/2016 22:03

Oh dear, after all the irritating references to Gatsby a couple of weeks ago, tonight's is littered with unnecessary Brideshead Revisited references. Annoying showing off by scriptwriter/s of how clever they are.

Lovelydiscusfish · 17/01/2016 22:08

If she didn't want to kill anyone, why was she putting the musk everywhere? Can anyone explain? I asked dh and he said it was " just one of life's many unanswered questions".

BelindaBagwash · 17/01/2016 22:14

Silly story tonight I felt.

I'm afraid all the literary references were lost on me - I'm so badly read Blush

Is Hathaway meant to be at least 48? I thought this episode was set in 1967

musicinspring1 · 17/01/2016 22:16

I'm an hour behind on plus 1. It's a weird one tonight. .

musicinspring1 · 17/01/2016 22:17

I'd that was Hathaway he grew up surrounded by odd people...

GruntledOne · 17/01/2016 22:41

I don't think the baby was meant to be James Hathaway, that would make him too old now.

pandaskitchen · 18/01/2016 10:50

Enjoyed last nights- but just wondering if any one can explain why the blank bullets were in the rifle when he was trying to shoot the tiger in the maze. It showed them being emptied and then the gun being loaded, but I missed the reason for this.

Not to mention- how have they hidden a tiger for that long in that flimsy chicken wire shed in the woods. If the girl was young when attacked and late teens/early 20's in the episode- if must have been there 10 years plus.

RidersOnTheStorm · 18/01/2016 15:09

Where was the house where it was set? Anyone know?

fussychica · 18/01/2016 18:17

Gawd that was bonkers, utter tosh. Not sure I can even be bothered to stick with it for the remaining episodes.

I like watching for Oxford but because it's the 60s it's nearly all filmed elsewhere so they dont have to worry about accurrate period references and shutting streets . So much easier but far less interesting.

BobandKate0 · 18/01/2016 19:16

While i agree somewhat with the miscast of shaun evans,i thought it better that the previous episodes,it helped that anton lesser was let off his lead a bit .
I take it no one spotted the kate bush night of the demon reference, then .

theconstantvacuumer · 18/01/2016 21:09

"It's in the trees, it's coming!"

Lovelydiscusfish · 18/01/2016 22:24

Riders, I think it was Rousham. You can go round the gardens. Children are not allowed, though!

Lovelydiscusfish · 18/01/2016 22:27

As well as the other things already mentioned, there were, I think, a number of references to Jurassic Park. I found the whole thing quite joyous, really.

GruntledOne · 18/01/2016 22:29

Pandas, I didn't think they were blanks, I thought it was just that the gun wasn't firing properly.

RidersOnTheStorm · 19/01/2016 06:59

Thanks, Lovely

ppeatfruit · 19/01/2016 10:06

Oh I Luuurve Shaun Evans he's such a subtle actor. I recorded Sunday's?? because there was sooo much on at the same time. Yes not sure about the plot and the set of the sixties supermarket (I remember the real things and the green shield stamps though Grin ).

pandaskitchen · 19/01/2016 12:21

Thanks Gruntled we were confused.com!

diddl · 20/01/2016 18:43

Philip Hathaway is James' dad, isn't he?

StDogolphin · 20/01/2016 18:54

I loved it!

diddl · 20/01/2016 19:13

Oh & Whytham Woods-that was a John Thaw Morse one, wasn't it?

The Way Through The Woods?

OttiliaVonBCup · 20/01/2016 22:08

The gardens were beautiful.
Were those foxgloves or lupins? Did anyone see?

diddl · 21/01/2016 07:47

Sorry, didn't notice.

It was all a bit daft really, wasn'tit?

Let's all run unarmed into a maze where there's a tiger!!

Sad that Craven(?) died.

Was a bit spelled out that Anton Lesser's character would shootit!

I think that he's very good in this.
