Anyone else watching? I am really enjoying it, and have either read more Dickens than I realised, or at least the right books.
I had always imagined Little Nell to be a bit younger though.

And I loved it too. I'm hoping it's been really popular so they make further series.

They can make six series according to the timeline if they stick to it.

Scrooge sees Marley 7 years after his death and has his book but Marley has been trying to attract his attention since his death (ineffectually)
So that means 6 more series if they stick to the timeline.

Laurie
That cant happen as Honoria/Lady Deadlock finds her daughter in Bleak House

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 21/02/2016 23:06

Why would Estella be a major plot diversion?

Estella is Magwitch's daughter. Her mother, Molly, is saved from hanging by Jaggers (can't remember who she murders) and becomes Jaggers' housekeeper. It would be a huge plot divergence for little Esther Frances to become Estella.

LaurieFairyCake · 21/02/2016 23:27

Hmm... interesting

Any chance Jaggers says that in the book to miss havisham as explanation but it isn't true?

LaurieFairyCake · 21/02/2016 23:28

Or that Jaggers believes it but it isn't true?

Sorry, just really want it to happen Blush

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 21/02/2016 23:36

There is no doubt in GE about who Estella really is.Jaggers tells Pip how he brought Estella to Miss Havisham from Molly, Magwitch's wife. Jaggers takes her to Satis house when she was about 3.

EElisavetaOfBelsornia · 21/02/2016 23:45

The baby is Esther Summerson, she can't become Estella.

Isn't Bucket's new case from Edgar Allen Poe? It's a play on him being the 'first detective'.

OP posts:
LassWiTheDelicateAir · 21/02/2016 23:54

I think it is Poe. The Murder in the Rue Morgue?

FairiesAreReal · 22/02/2016 09:14

I thought it was brilliant last night.
Was I the only one shouting at Bill Sikes to beat Compeyson within an inch of his life? Blush

I thought Nancy's singing was lovely too.

I really hope there is another series.

MorrisZapp · 22/02/2016 13:18

Nancy has been the shining light of Dickensian, I said that from the start. If she can bring a tear to Mrs Bumble's eye she's made of special stuff.

I desperately want there to be another series, but I'm not as keen on the Fagin/ Sykes stuff and have preferred the female led storylines we've had so far.

Can it be done? Should it be done?

CeeBeeBee · 22/02/2016 13:39

If there is a second series, then it will continue the start of "A Christmas carol" and "Oliver Twist" they've hinted at towards the end. I do wonder what they will do with baby Esther's story line. If she becomes Estella then "Bleak House" can't run.

Backingvocals · 22/02/2016 16:24

I'm curious as to how they can run another series as nearly everyone has ended up roughly where we find them at the start of their original Dickens story iyswim.

Would they have to trawl the books for the characters they haven't yet used? Pip for example. Or the David Copperfield characters all of whom were absent from this one.

diddl · 22/02/2016 16:42

Estella & Esther growing up?

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 22/02/2016 18:02

Estella & Esther growing up?

I thought that too.

diddl · 22/02/2016 18:06

Also how Esther ends up where she does.

Where has Jaggers placed her?

For Bleak House we need approximately 20 years to pass. For GE we need around 12 (assuming Miss H takes Estella in fairly quickly aged 3). This assumes it is Esther and Estella who are the interest of course. you could make something of Jarndyce -v-Jarndyce.

They can continue OT and CC story lines now.

Pip would only be a baby now and he is so young at the start of his book there isn't much of a back story to him.

They haven't used any Little Dorrit characters- there must be loads of potential there and they have only used 2 minor Our Mutual Friend characters. But I do think it will be difficult.

ILikeToClean · 22/02/2016 20:28

Really enjoyed this - terrific acting by all and wish it would just continue on and on!

Not sure how another one would work but I will definitely watch - hopefully it won't end up like the second series of Broadchurch where they should have just let it lie at one outstanding series!

PreemptiveSalvageEngineer · 23/02/2016 22:58

It was Mrs Cratchitt with a rolling pin!! ... in the Drawing Room. Grin

dannydyerismydad · 24/02/2016 09:05

After Dickensian and Call the Midwife, I'm glad I live nowhere near any docks.

MorrisZapp · 24/02/2016 13:09

Ripper Street has bad dock vibes too.

PreemptiveSalvageEngineer · 24/02/2016 13:20

Not to mention the overhead railway line. We're just catching up on the start of s.3 >shudders

Abraid2 · 24/04/2016 17:49

The BBC has confirmed that there won't be a second series, although it seems that new episodes have been written. :(

bakeoffcake · 24/04/2016 21:51

I read that too Abraid. I'm so disappointed.Sad

pizzaeatingmonkey · 24/04/2016 22:51

me too Angry

Cooroo · 24/04/2016 22:54

Shame! Still better than forcing a 2nd series and it not working.
