Corrie thread - we haven't even got a dog storyline to keep us going now

A new thread as we head towards the worst part of every soap year - Christmas.

Dreading the return of Simon.

Dreading more of the arr Gareh & Alya "plot".

When did the brewery close and become a convenient empty garage?

Make yourself at home and get ready for more totally hopeless acting - it has to improve soon, surely?

I had no idea Luke lived with T&F. Prior to this week I had never seen him in their house?!

The main problem as I see it, aside from some very poor scriptwriting, is that they introduce storylines that are actually quite promising and then just abandon/forget about them: Nick's brain injury, Max's ADHD, Faye's baby spirited away to Canada (grandma Anna and grandpa Tim were absolutely devastated in one episode and then all was fine/forgotten in the next) Coronation St used to be brilliant at producing 'slow burn' storylines that developed really well over time but the current ridiculous plots put in on a par with Eastenders where completely unrealistic storylines begin and end in a handful of episodes.

eddiemairswife · 29/11/2015 13:09

I think Luke went to live with Ty when Fiz was in Wolverhampton looking after Cilla. What happened to her, by the way? Didn't she have osteoporosis? No-one has mentioned her since Fiz came back and Hope is her granddaughter.

That thing about the Santa was so stupid! How dense would Sinead need to be, not to know that it was the Santa she was unplugging.

southeastdweller · 29/11/2015 19:26

Carla's alcoholism story was another one that was featured, then abruptly dropped and apparently forgotten as we now see her drink regularly with nobody ever mentioning it. I'll miss the character when she leaves but I don't blame Alison King for leaving (or 'taking a break' as the bosses call it).

Rachel0Greep · 29/11/2015 21:20

I agree southeast. Carla is one of my favourite characters.
Her gambling addiction also magically disappeared.

eddiemairswife · 29/11/2015 23:06

It would have made sense for Luke to have moved into Maria's flat while she was away. He could have looked after the large dog, whose name escapes me. Did she make arrangements for it, or will there be a gruesome discovery when she returns?

Akire · 29/11/2015 23:11

Where is Luke's sister staying? She was sharing the flat where what's her name died. Then the one with kid who moved back to Spain. Did Les move in?

SymphonyofShadows · 30/11/2015 07:38

I think Steph still lives on the same flat but now with Andy. It's the one above the builders yard but doesn't seem to have been damaged when Maddie got blown up underneath

hildasmuriel · 30/11/2015 08:31

Carla's gambling story was just used as a vehicle to bring in the Connors. Now they are here she's miraculously OK. The alcoholism was treated in exactly the same way as Max's ADHD, Steve's depression, Sinead and Sophie's back injuries where they were unable to walk and David's epilepsy. I suspect Hope will be declared OK too with never a follow up or ongoing problems such as dental and bone issues which children who have had chemo tend to have. It's actually very offensive to those who are affected by these conditions as it totally sensationalises then dismisses the impact of living with the condition.

eddiemairswife · 30/11/2015 09:46

Where is Michael living? Did he move in with Steph and Andy?

hildasmuriel · 30/11/2015 09:52

Oh and I forgot Nick's brain injury too.

Rachel0Greep · 30/11/2015 09:57

Yes, Michael lives with Steph and Andy.

hildasmuriel · 30/11/2015 10:01

I think the live episode worked so well as it was an 'event', like a one off drama, the problem being that this is a continuing drama, so characters and viewers have to live with the consequences. I think the writers have totally forgotten this and they treat storylines as little mini dramas forgetting what has gone before or what characters will have to cope with after. Viewers have long memories and real affection for the characters so it doesn't work for us either. The Street has certainly gone through doldrums before so it can all be pulled back if the new producer engages good writers and archivists.

PS eddiemairswife I think Michael lives with Steph and Andy. I don't really know why they haven't reconciled him with Gail, I thought they worked quite well together.

eddiemairswife · 30/11/2015 11:38

Just looked at next week's previews.... Rob has grown a beard. I now can't remember what he looked like before. The only picture that comes into my mind is that of Frank Foster.

millimat · 30/11/2015 19:06

I thought about Sinead when she jumped out of the low deck chair to switch the lights on. Miraculous recovery!!

AnneEyhtMeyer · 30/11/2015 19:13

I still don't remember how Michael reconciled with Andy. When and how did that happen and why didn't he forgive Gail at the same time?

Michael lives with Steph and Andy, in the flat where, when Tina lived there, she had David sleeping on the sofa and kicked him out because the flat wasn't big enough for two Confused. Steph also managed to squeeze in Katie and her child at one point.......

SymphonyofShadows · 30/11/2015 19:26

IIRC we used to call Rob Easter Island Statue because he looked like one

Rachel0Greep · 30/11/2015 20:01

There was a scene not that long ago, where Steph and Andy were laying down house rules to Michael.
He asked Eileen, who happened to be present, while this was going on, could he come live with her, and she said No. Now, tonight, he appears to be living with her. Is this just another lack of continuity by the scriptwriters... Hmm

southeastdweller · 30/11/2015 20:46

Yes, just the one.

SymphonyofShadows · 30/11/2015 20:46

Was there only one tonight?

eddiemairswife · 30/11/2015 23:23

Well yes. I was flummoxed by Michael seemingly living with Eileen, unless they just come together for occasional sex. At a loose end this afternoon I was perusing Corriepedia looking at the history of the houses and their present and previous occupants. When originally built in 1900-1902 they had three bedrooms, no bathroom, outside lavatory, front room, back room and scullery. Most (probably all) have had one of the bedrooms converted to a bathroom, so now two bedrooms. This seems to throw up some problems.... where did Simon sleep last week (with Ken?) .... where does Todd sleep? He was living with Eileen when Jason had Eva to stay. And what about Craig? The downstairs has been knocked through so there is no front room. I know it is fiction, but it's not fantasy fiction.

ProfYaffle · 01/12/2015 06:17

I was thinking about all the living arrangements last night with the Connors scrapping over the Streetcars flat (Hmm) What about Victoria Court? Hardly anyone lives there. I know they're supposed to be expensive but a) a few characters acquiring flats there would at least alleviate some of the more ludicrous overcrowding on the street and b) surely the Connors are Victoria Court material anyway?

What's the point of going to the trouble of inventing VC, building it on set then practically ignoring it??

Rachel0Greep · 01/12/2015 08:42

The houses must be elastic. When Eileen moved in, the boys, as they were then, were giving out about sharing a room, because there were only two bedrooms. Grin

WotNoLoobrush · 01/12/2015 17:21

Something makes me think that the Barlows have an attic room? I don't know why though. I'll assume they have, along with all their neighbours.
