Love ceramics so hope I'm going to enjoy this one.

Can you just dig up clay from your garden to make a pot?

I think he is just an introvert Soup. I like him. I can't stand Tom. Jim knows what he is doing.

SoupDragon · 02/12/2015 08:17

An introvert who is a teacher with a non-conformist hair style? As an introvert, that doesn't add up to me! :o

It is interesting how we get different impressions about people having been given the same snap shot. I know we are being manipulated by the editing - like Sandra who was always shown procrastinating for example. They showed more clips of her not working than the did of her working - she clearly must have done some work as she always had something at the end.

SanityClause · 02/12/2015 08:23

SewingBee Patrick would never blub...

Sewing Bee Patrick!

I am an introvert and had bright red hair of varying degrees for more years than I care to remember. Often it is to take away from having to be extroverted as people see the hair and leave you the fuck alone.

SoupDragon · 02/12/2015 08:29

Are you a secondary school teacher though?

DoreenLethal · 02/12/2015 08:41

I currently own a company that teaches alternative provision to permanently excluded teenagers, as well as teaching others from primary, teachers themselves and people with dementia. I used to be a civil engineer. What has that got to do with anything?

AppleYumYum · 02/12/2015 09:39

I really really can't stand Matthew, he is so smug, he just radiates smugness, he shouldn't have got star potter this week, Jim was robbed.

Peregrina · 02/12/2015 09:44

What puzzles me is, aren't they supposed to be amateurs? Matthew is a pottery teacher, so surely that makes him a professional, because his pottery making skills enable him to earn his living?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 02/12/2015 10:07

I get what Doreen is saying - I am an introvert, but I used to be a nurse, and when I had the uniform on, I was really good at talking to people, interacting with them, and generally seeming confident and outgoing. Without the uniform, I reverted to my normal habit of trying to fade into the background.

I think it's possible that Matthew's hair could be something of a mask to hide his shyness - and that when he is working, he pulls on a work persona that enables him to act extrovert and teach.

I also think he is less smug than Jim - it was pretty clear this week that Jim thought he'd been robbed and should have been star potter, and I think, secretly, he expects to win. And I liked Matthew's chandelier much better than I liked his garden statue last week - I thought that was a real mess - it looked like it had been designed by a committee.

iwantanewcar · 02/12/2015 10:10

just found this thread . I also loved the pod garden sculpture - thought it was wonderful . I personally would want more colour. Thought some of the others looked so ugly.

Wolpertinger · 02/12/2015 10:17

Peregrina I totally agree with you. Matthew is the son of two professional potters who is now a professional pottery teacher - isn't it meant to be an amateur pottery competition? Confused

It's team Tom all the way in this house due to him actually being, well an amateur potter.

SoupDragon · 02/12/2015 10:18

What has that got to do with anything?

Why so defensive? Confused

Personally there is no way I could ever consider standing up in front of a roomful of teenagers. that was what is has to do with anything. sheesh. Hmm

Elendon · 02/12/2015 10:33

I don't think Tom should have stayed in last night. His chandelier was, to be quite frank, rubbish, it's obvious he hasn't a creative bone in his body.

Agree with others who have mention this. Matthew should not be in as he obviously works as a pottery teacher. Looking at the application form for the Great British Bake Off, you will be automatically disqualified from entering if you work in baking. Besides, Matthew might well have technical expertise, but his creativity is lacking.

Jim drives me nuts, I like his pottery designs but he's just far too bloody smug.

Sally-Jo is sweet, but needs to be more assertive and a big dose of self belief wouldn't go amiss.

Wolpertinger · 02/12/2015 10:59

Agree, judges made a speech about judging solely on this week's effort and then blatantly judged on everything they had done so far. I don't thing Tom 'hasn't a creative bone in his body' but his chandelier was pants.

DoreenLethal · 02/12/2015 11:07

Personally there is no way I could ever consider standing up in front of a roomful of teenagers.

I've been presenting to large groups of people my whole career. When I was new to engineering my boss made me do a presentation to a group of 30 highly experienced and mainly in their 40s engineers - at the age of 19 - about some aspect of soil mechanics that I am sure they all knew about but my boss was determined to get me to learn how to do it.

I once gave a presentation about something that construction employers were having to implement at their own cost, to over 200 construction employers who were raging about it. It all went very well, and I came out relatively unscathed. Doesn't mean I am not an introvert or didn't have to lie down in a dark room and work from home for the rest of the week though.

WotNoLoobrush · 02/12/2015 20:22

Just caught up.

I agree that Jim should have won top potter (even if he is a bit smug). His chandelier and Sally-Jo's were my favourites. I didn't like Matthews somehow.

iwantanewcar · 03/12/2015 10:03

I do like Jim - a lot of the time he seems to have a good sense of humour over what must be a very frustrating process. I think Sally Jo could benefit from an enormous dollop of self confidence - her colours are good, her creativity is good. I think if she won it would give her the boost to take things to the next level whereas Matthew clearly already has the right background and has made his decision how he wants to use his skills. Tom was nice but the right time for him to go.

AppleYumYum · 03/12/2015 13:32

I like that Jim, despite being smug, always helps the others or shares some of his knowledge. You never see Matthew help anyone, he seems to keep an arms distance from the others.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 03/12/2015 13:37

I think that, in general, these programmes are the nicer end of reality TV - the contestants on here, GBBO and Sewing Bee all seem to be supportive of each other, admire each other's efforts, and do generally seem to be willing to help each other.

I also believe that, as a rule, crafters are generous people - I knit, crochet, sew and have painted in the past, and have met so many people who have been willing and happy to share their expertise, knowledge and inspiration with me. You only have to look at the number of free patterns on Ravelry and craft blogs, or the free 'How-to' videos on YouTube, to see crafters offering their wisdom to other people.

iklboo · 08/12/2015 21:17

It's finals time! Tea set?! Should be very interesting.

ILoveOnionRings · 08/12/2015 21:31

I am enjoying this

ILoveOnionRings · 08/12/2015 21:33

I like the way they are helping Sally-Jo

SwedishEdith · 08/12/2015 21:38

Yes, I like the way they helped out. Who do we predict will win?

OP posts:
iklboo · 08/12/2015 21:40

Porcelain sounds like an utter nightmare.

SwedishEdith · 08/12/2015 21:49

It's going to be Matthew isn't it?
