Downton Thread 3 - 11 October

katemiddletonsothermum · 11/10/2015 20:44

Am starting another thread because the last one had 12 pages.

Wowzers, 17 minutes to go. What will happen? Will Mr and Mrs Carson be able to look each other in the eye? Will Daisy finally stop being annoying? Will Edith finally become the Pope?

ohhhhhhhhhhhh........

OP posts:
Cerseirys · 19/10/2015 13:35

Was it that Daisy couldn't read? I thought it was more than she didn't know how to do maths and had some lessons in social studies etc.

regenerationfez · 19/10/2015 14:06

Yes i didn't think Daisy couldn't read, just that she wanted to better herself and had extra help. I bet they wish she had bettered herself and buggered off now, she is unbelievably irritating!
I was so bored in that episode, right up to the entrails being spilled. I'd recorded it and avoided all spoilers and I nearly stopped watching. Lucky I didn't! I wonder who is going to die at the end?

squoosh · 19/10/2015 14:08

Thanks Cerseirys. Looking at his imdb list I think I recognise him from Berkeley Square. Trash but I loved it!

squoosh · 19/10/2015 14:13

I too wish Daisy would bog off. Couldn't a big copper pot fall tragically from the kitchen ceiling and take her out or perhaps there could be an oh so unfortunate incident with an angry rabid pig?

Her voice is so droney. PLEASE MAKE HER STOP TALKING!

regenerationfez · 19/10/2015 14:16

And as someone upthread said, she didn't even love William, and he probably knew it, and now she's gone nuts over Mr mason for no reason at all

diddl · 19/10/2015 15:41

So Lord G is supposed to be avoiding stress & in the trailer for next week Violet is shouting at himHmm

I actually loathe her atm & really want to see her lose thos hospital thing!

squoosh · 19/10/2015 15:47

I think Violet will be the one to snuff it.

I can imagine Dame Maggie Smith demanding a suitably scene stealing death bed scene.

NameChange30 · 19/10/2015 15:49

Maybe Thomas will murder Carson so he can stay on as head butler Grin

FishOn · 19/10/2015 17:20

Well that was a surprise! Poor Rabbit Shock

When DH's ulcer burst there was no blood at all. Just as well as he was at work. Maybe his was in a diff place (duodenum) or he's just not such a drama queen Grin

He said it felt like he'd been shot though - excruciating. Collapsed in A&E and was in hospital for a week after surgery.

diddl · 19/10/2015 17:20

So who knows about Marigold?

Violet, Lord & Lady G, Tom, Rosamund.

Mrs Hughes-any more staff?

Will Mary be a bitch when she finds out & try to scupper Edith's chances with Bertie?

What will she be most cross about-the fact of it or the fact that she wasn't told??!!

squoosh · 19/10/2015 17:27

I think mainly Mary will be shocked to her frosty core that her boring sister has been indulging in harlot like behaviour.

Then she'll be all.........

'So everyone knew but me?'

'Yes'

'But why, this is an outrage'

'Because you're a massive bellend Mary.'

And then they'll indulge in some tearful sisterly bit of bonding.

diddl · 19/10/2015 17:31

I was with you until the last sentence!

SenecaFalls · 19/10/2015 17:32

Because you're a massive bellend Mary.

I truly hope this is the last line of the last episode.

diddl · 19/10/2015 17:32

Ooh, just had an awful thought.

Hope Tom isn't going to have a go in Henry's car & have a fatal accident!

Clawdy · 19/10/2015 17:46

DS watched in amazement as Lord G spouted blood, and said "I was waiting for the alien to burst out of his stomach !" Grin

Davros · 19/10/2015 18:25

I remember Weebles Wobble But They Don't Fall Down. I've got the annoying little tune in my head now

SockQueen · 19/10/2015 19:57

If an ulcer erodes into an artery, then yes, it can look like that (it's different if it "bursts" internally into the abdomen, but still life-threatening). It's horrific. And realistically there's no way they'd have been able to save him even if Dr Clarkson is secretly able to do an emergency gastrectomy.

Inkanta · 19/10/2015 20:21

Branston's put on the timber - was it America he'd returned from. Too many hambugers perhaps - but he will have to trim down to win Mary's affections. I think they could end up together - the racing car man's not right for her.

lazarusb · 19/10/2015 20:24

My granddad was living in Switzerland in the late 50s/early 60s when his ulcer burst. He was in hospital for months and months. I know Lord 6 is proper loaded but even the best medical care wouldn't make that quick a recovery.

Perhaps Maggie Smith still has her wand Grin

NameChange30 · 19/10/2015 20:25

Inkanta nah Mary won't get with Branson, she told him she won't "marry down" Grin

QueenOfThorns · 19/10/2015 21:21

AnotherEmma, that's just to make us think that she won't marry Branson, so they can spring it on us as a massive 'surprise' in the last episode.

Not that I'm cynical, or anything!

NameChange30 · 19/10/2015 23:01

You reckon? I just can't picture them together. He's too nice for her. She has her moments but she's still a bitch at heart.

Baconyum · 20/10/2015 04:16

Well I enjoyed that episode though I am getting fed up with the hospital crap!

I think Mary will be more hurt she wasn't told about Marigold (but it will look like annoyance/anger). I quite like her but hope she doesn't come all holier than thou considering her own escapades!

Squoosh Rupert Frazer played an MP in house of Eliot.

Duckdeamon · 20/10/2015 07:47

Not watched yet but looking forward to the blood-spewing and Lady M and E showdown, not necessarily at the same time.

Still quite annoyed about how fertility problems that are often not treatable even now are so easily resolved in Downton! If only it were that simple.

After my waters went with DD1 and you could see her limbs moving: then and during the subsequent C-section DH noted that it was like Alien - the midwives were Hmm

diddl · 20/10/2015 09:03

What's the hospital thing again?

That it is wanted for the local cottage hospital to be under the control of a bigger hospital & in return the cottage hospital gets an upgrade of facilities/it's easier for patients to transfer if necessary?

So was Robert treated at the local hospital?

Is he going to relapse & die then because the local hospital doesn't have the facilities but it would do if it merged/was taken over?
