Following on from the first thread (we were getting a bit short on space!).

Pastry week next - it's time for the dreaded soggy bottoms!

MrSlant I'll help with any kidnapping and locking up needed, as long as I can be part of the gang too Grin

wankerchief · 09/09/2015 20:31

Alvin is not doing well

coveredinsnot · 09/09/2015 20:31

(about Ian being an insufferable bore, the thread moved on so fast!)

LemonRedwood · 09/09/2015 20:31

Oh dear, I hear bells tolling for Alvin

wankerchief · 09/09/2015 20:33

Yay mat

PurpleDaisies · 09/09/2015 20:34

Alvin is sweet-I hope he has a better round three.

Arabidopsis · 09/09/2015 20:34

Can't help thinking that the technical challenges these days end up being more luck than judgment

NoelHeadbands · 09/09/2015 20:34

Pleased for Mat

LemonRedwood · 09/09/2015 20:35

You're right Arabidopsis. All the withholding of important info is silly.

NoelHeadbands · 09/09/2015 20:35

Tamal is so lovely.

Alvin is so lovely.

Goddammit they're ALL lovely Angry

PurpleDaisies · 09/09/2015 20:36

Totally agree arab. How were they supposed to know what a bloody random pasty thing that even Mary had never heard of wax supposed to look like? Stupid.

LemonRedwood · 09/09/2015 20:37

Oooh, my mum used to make the best vol-au-vents! Ritz cracker, with a smear of taramasalata and topped with a prawn. Perfick!

wankerchief · 09/09/2015 20:37

Yeah picking something they have never seen, giving them.half a recipe then whining it looks wrong is crap

wankerchief · 09/09/2015 20:38

Pure class Lemon!

Bragadocia · 09/09/2015 20:38

Guessing the correct shape does not indicate a talented baker. Success in that round rested on getting the shape and the height; not a good choice of task.

Bunbaker · 09/09/2015 20:39

How do you spell the thing they made for the technical challenge? I have been trying to second guess it and google it, but haven't found anything.

PurpleDaisies · 09/09/2015 20:39

I have a real weakness for vol au vents. I ate 16 on my own once as part of a bad day at work evening pity party.

I don't liked the sound of Ian's.

Igneococcus · 09/09/2015 20:40

Flaounes, I think

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 09/09/2015 20:40

yeah the technicals seem more of a test of general knowledge, and not of baking. Seems unfair.

LemonRedwood · 09/09/2015 20:41

flauna according to Western mail but no other google results!

I reckon he made it up

Arabidopsis · 09/09/2015 20:41

Flaouna

NoelHeadbands · 09/09/2015 20:42

I'm sad because I think Alvin is going, and I don't want him to Sad

wankerchief · 09/09/2015 20:42

A cafe vol au ventGrin

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 09/09/2015 20:42

some of these sound quite nice. Though not keen on all the fish stuff. But it's quite an interesting task at least.

MrSlant · 09/09/2015 20:42

I want a vol au vent SO badly right now.

I think Mary has a bit of a crush on Ian, she was twinkling at him like a lighthouse just then.
