Following on from the first thread (we were getting a bit short on space!).

Pastry week next - it's time for the dreaded soggy bottoms!

Yes we're definitely not worthy ma'am (curtsies ) Grin

emotionsecho · 08/10/2015 18:15

The sugar work decoration on Tamal's Showstopper was stunning but the actual icing on the cakes was just sort of plonked on the top, Ian's carrot decoration was definitely the wrong way round and it didn't quite work!

Jux · 08/10/2015 18:33

That sugar-web was amazing, and all the 'dusty' webs on the cakes were fab. He'll be a very good anaesthetist.

Davros · 08/10/2015 19:48

Jux Flowers I remember your name very clearly but anything else, not so much! I hope we didn't argue about anything in the past! Welcome back

Jux · 08/10/2015 22:39

Hi, Davros! No, I don't think I've really argued with anyone on MN, I'm a shrinking violet! Thanks, for the welcome.

I think I may have inadvertently misrepresented myself. When I said I hadn't been about for a few years, I meant only here on the GBBO thread. It's because my brother came to live with us, and he joins us early evening, so we watch it together and I feel rude spending my whole time on MN talking about GBBO instead of with the person who's in front of me. He'll be infront of me for the next series too, and quite possibly for every other series.

I suppose I can come on in the morning after and leave a comment, but it's not quite the same.

Mrsjayy · 08/10/2015 22:43

Join in anyway I dont always watch live or post and last night i had a social media blackout because i watched it when dd got in.

Bookaboo · 08/10/2015 23:01

Does the winner really just get a cake stand? All that time, sweat and toil. For a cake stand.
Sorry if this has been discussed somewhere before!

Mrsjayy · 08/10/2015 23:15

And a bunch of what looked like garage flowers Grin

Jux · 08/10/2015 23:35

Thanks, MrsJay.

Bookaboo, I think that's part of the very Britishness of the Bake Off. You just get a cake stand and some garage flowers at the end, but you've taken part.

Actually, I think the contestants, especially the finalists and winner, get a lot more than that out of it.

SoupDragon · 09/10/2015 06:13

It's not "just" a cake stand, it's a trophy. I imagine that it is helpful if you want to set up a business in baking too. Having said that, I think it is more about the taking part.

NoahVale · 09/10/2015 08:59

i cried,
actually I have had something in my eye permanently since Nadiya won,
she was on the radio
then this morning I see her face when I read an article about her.

what is my defence?

but so happy for her, she was so unassuming

ppeatfruit · 09/10/2015 09:40

I agree NoahVale And on tonight!

LatinForTelly · 09/10/2015 12:26

I'm pleased Nadiya won. She was unquestionably the best on the day. Thought Tamal's showstopper was sublime though.

Shock at garage flowers! Tsk Mrs Jayy. Some metropolitan artisanal florist will 'ave you for that Grin

ppeatfruit · 09/10/2015 12:41

Yes Latin to be fair the flowers were beautiful MrsJayy. Grin They get incredible publicity from the GBBO and it's up to them if they want to take advantage of it I suppose.

Tarzanlovesgaby · 09/10/2015 12:50

I kept my cool until mary berry wiped the tears off nadiya's cheek

well done nadiya!

Trills · 10/10/2015 09:29

Loved Tamal saying to Nadiya's kids "I'm going to come over for tea with you and mummy".

Davros · 10/10/2015 09:38

Jux I never watch live and always read the thread afterwards. How nice if you to have your brother living with you. I wish I could live with my sister but that would mean both of us having to get divorced first Grin

Mrsjayy · 10/10/2015 09:47

A few of the bake off winners have gone on to do Tv chefery and write t books havnt they? I saw john? cooking on lorraine kellys programme

PerspicaciaTick · 10/10/2015 10:26

And Ed Kimber was flogging KitchenAid on QVC this week.

I do feel that when GBBO went to BBC1, they tried to make it more competitive and dramatic. This season they seem to have given up on that and gone back to nice people, trying their best and being kind to each other - much more enjoyable go watch.

Mrsjayy · 10/10/2015 10:33

Yeah they tried to whip up drama this years was warm and fuzzy.

ppeatfruit · 10/10/2015 12:24

True Perpicacia and Mrsjayy Why do the TV producers insist on thinking we all want confrontation, pure competition and effing drama?

I have asked dh this question (he works in the biz) but he just sort of shrugs and looks at me Hmm

ppeatfruit · 10/10/2015 12:26

There should be a twitter campaign against all these ridiculous competitions on TV, a few is fine but there are TOO MANY

Rant over Grin I'm not on Twitter BTW!!!
