Following on from the first thread (we were getting a bit short on space!).

Pastry week next - it's time for the dreaded soggy bottoms!

Raahh Tamal works at your local hospital?!?!?!!! I will not share that particular nugget with DD1. Her best friend is completely obsessed with him. She is 11, it is really quite cute. Doesn't matter a jot that he is gay Grin he is still awesome.

Bookaboo · 07/10/2015 23:11

Did you see the state of Ian's kitchen? It looked more like something out of an episode of compulsive hoarders. Lord knows how he gets anything done in there.

ApricotSorbet99 · 07/10/2015 23:28

Not followed the thread at all, but just want to say Yay for Nadiya.

She's been my favourite for ages....really talented, funny and endearing. So pleased for her. And that wedding cake was stunning.

(Highly innappropriate and irrelevant, I know.....but her husband....phwoar).

Mrsjayy · 07/10/2015 23:33

Just finished watching so pleased for her that wedding cake was stunning I love her she is so funny and warm and i might have cried a bit (whats that about its bake off fgs) and yes Mr Naydia is phwoar

Mrsjayy · 07/10/2015 23:36

And her marshmallow icing was genuis

Mrsjayy · 07/10/2015 23:42

Ian is the official photographer for the Dalal lama WHAT?.? He was potrayed as the quirky SAHD Hmm

Baconyum · 08/10/2015 00:56

Loved nadiya throughout sooo glad she won! My first full series watching but I've seen comments online re previous series it being edited to make the winner look unpopular. So I was worried. I too cried. I'd love to meet the dalai lama (anyone seen Adam hills bit on him? That made me cry too). Lovely to see them all emotional too it clearly meant a lot to them. Sad its finished though. And Dr foster too wtf will I watch next week?!

SoupDragon · 08/10/2015 07:30

I was surprised that both Mary and Paul were bemused by the marshmallows. It seemed to be new to them.

Roussette · 08/10/2015 07:38

Grouchy yes Great British Sewing Bee is really good, and I have done a thread on it for a couple of years now. I like it as much as GBBO.

I did think Ian's kitchen looked a complee 'mare, it put me off a bit TBH.

SoupDragon · 08/10/2015 07:58

Applications for Sewing Bee 4 need to be in by Sunday 8 November 2015 :) not that I am applying but at least it will be back!

Roussette · 08/10/2015 08:22

Oh goody! I want my friend to enter, she is brilliant but she refuses and doesn't know how good she is. She has made beautiful handbags, she even made an umbrella once (apart from clothes, soft furnishings, fabulous cushins etc.)

SoupDragon · 08/10/2015 08:25

Even if I was good enough I wouldn't enter - the thought of being on TV under that much scrutiny fills me with horror!

Roussette · 08/10/2015 08:28

Ditto with my friend! She thinks she's useless at sewing too, nothing could be further from the truth.

ppeatfruit · 08/10/2015 09:20

Our Nads was interviewed on Chris Evans this morning. She said she hid the plate under the bed inside a lot of suitcases! She didn't start baking till secondary school, she's 30!!!! She doesn't look it does she?

I loved how calm she was in the final and she said that she only wanted to get to the final and so felt there was nothing else to do by then! The blokes were panicking ,doing too much etc. so effed it up! Also I liked what she said to them about the pastry Mille Feuilles given to them because they were all bad at pastry!

SoupDragon · 08/10/2015 09:24

She was on R1 too and sounded just as nice as she appeared on the programme. Apparently she and her family became compulsive liars :)

Davros · 08/10/2015 09:28

I think Nadiya was the right winner but I didn't like a few of her bakes (bubble gum, can of pop). I thought her show stopper wasn't very good. Lemon drizzle is less complex than the cakes the other two did and it was dressed with things not made by her. I think the purple "saris" were just fabric draped round the cakes, not complex icing as I first thought, plus shop bought jewels and balls. She did the best overall on the day though.
So I wonder if Ian is a Buddist? That would mean the final was between a Muslim, a Hindu and a Buddist, amazing!!!!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/10/2015 10:26

SoupDragon is right about what a friendly competition GBBO is - for me, that's one of the best things about it. There's no backstabbing or bitchiness - it is real, feel-good tv.

I usually find that I like all the competitors, too (though I did irrationally dislike the chap who went out in the first week, just because of his hat) - I'd have been happy whoever won, to be honest.

But I love Nadiya, and what she said about self belief, at the end, was very wise.

The80sweregreat · 08/10/2015 10:37

I like the MB is always positive. Its just a feel good hour that harmless. Glad she won, but they were all fab. Well done.

ppeatfruit · 08/10/2015 10:38

SDTGisAn Evil Agree but I reckon she was going to win from the start , she is very wise and emotionally mature for a 30yr. old.

Davros Her kiddie flavour cakes were unusual that's true, but clever.

But Ian's carrot cake would have made me sick , I like carrot but great lumps of orange in it, Shock belly ache on a plate IMO.

Jux · 08/10/2015 11:01

Hi all, sorry, I used to be a regular but haven't been able to join you all for a few years Sad

I'm glad she won. She's charming and funny and really really sweet. I liked Tamal as well. Not worried about Ian so much. They were all nice.

I cried a bit, and saw that my bro had that face on, the one where your heartstrings are being tugged hard and you are not going to listen to them.... Grin. DH was unmoved, but he liked Nadya too..

emotionsecho · 08/10/2015 13:20

I am absolutely delighted that Nadiya won, she seems such an utterly lovely person who radiates kindness. As predicted earlier I was a weeping mess when she won, her family were fabulous. Tamal was great too.

SoupDragon · 08/10/2015 13:34

I thought the decoration on Ian's carrot cake was really ugly. I think Tamal's cake was actually the best show stopper - it was stunning. Great for Halloween! He did badly in the other challenges though so couldn't have won.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 08/10/2015 13:42

I though Ian's carrot cakes icing was a bit patchy, i'm sure i saw thin bits with the cake showing though slightly (disclaimer, we were a "anyone but Ian to win" family from very early on, so I may have been looking out for mistakes Wink). So pleased Nadiya won.
