Following on from the first thread (we were getting a bit short on space!).

Pastry week next - it's time for the dreaded soggy bottoms!

OP posts:
Roussette · 23/09/2015 20:17

Lemon snap... I'd just love to scoff one or two of each bakers horns Grin

Trills · 23/09/2015 20:17

Are cream horns actually hard, or did they just not have enough time?

Supercosmicrays · 23/09/2015 20:18

Go Nadiya

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 23/09/2015 20:18

they're always nice to Nadiya I think, even when they are saying something critical (which they aren't this time!).

Poor Flora, might not be her week - think she could go home.

Though they aren't so keen on PP's horns, maybe because they were looking forward to them so much!

Baconyum · 23/09/2015 20:19

Love the idea of the lime and mascarpone.

Roussette · 23/09/2015 20:20

Tamal is brilliant... loved the look of his

LemonRedwood · 23/09/2015 20:21

Oh dear, Ian

Baconyum · 23/09/2015 20:21

Looks like tamal and nadiya did the best crème horns

Roussette · 23/09/2015 20:21

Ian's buggered this up a bit...

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 23/09/2015 20:21

Yup, Flora isn't having a good week. They aren't keen on her fripperies.

Oh Ian's not doing well at all either. Too ambitious. Maybe Flora won't be going after all...

ARockNRollNerd · 23/09/2015 20:22

Oooh, could Ian be a goner?
Mr Cream Horns Aren't That Hard. Ha!

lastqueenofscotland · 23/09/2015 20:22

I love nadyia.

Flora has frustrated me throughout with showboating

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 23/09/2015 20:23

I think they are editing it to make Ian look more smug than ever though, and then set him up for a downfall. I hate when they do that, as I can imagine coming across badly if they took all the stupid things I've said and then tried to make good TV out of them!! They seem much more critical of Ian than the others, too.

dementedma · 23/09/2015 20:25

I think Paul is unfairly hard on Ian, who seems an amiable sort of chap. Agree I think he's edited to look very smug

Baconyum · 23/09/2015 20:26

Ooh Flora's panicking. Quick Google of mochatine shows they're v popular in Japan? Confused

LemonRedwood · 23/09/2015 20:27

I would have no idea how to make a Genoese either. My sympathies are entirely with Paul!

Roussette · 23/09/2015 20:28

I wouldn't have a clue!!

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 23/09/2015 20:29

It's a test of mindreading and general knowledge, and only a small part about baking knowledge!!

Roussette · 23/09/2015 20:29

Oooops! PP's cake looks like what I'd end up with Grin

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 23/09/2015 20:31

aw poor PP, looks like he's kind of given up, feel sad for him now - he was so humourless in the first few episodes, but he grew on me in the later ones. But bread is more his thing, not cakes!

CrotchetQuaverMinim · 23/09/2015 20:31

Nadiya's are looking quite good!

Baconyum · 23/09/2015 20:32

Has pp followed the recipe? The key I think (it's been a while since I've made one) is plenty of air in the egg mix.

LemonRedwood · 23/09/2015 20:33

There was no recipe Bacon, it just said, "make a Genoese sponge."

Supercosmicrays · 23/09/2015 20:33

PP grew on me too but think he'll go this week
(flora next week and Nadiya to storm it in the final)

MeolsCop · 23/09/2015 20:35

Iirc you need to pour the melted butter in round the edge of the mixing bowl and then fold in v v gently. Used to make genoise sponges a lot but haven't for centuries years. Must try again!
