Eat Well For Less? BBC1

They are looking at a family food spend.

Family of 5 is spending well over national average - about £220pw.

THey are being slated for buying "expensive" sliced cheese. I'm a pretty savy shopper and I will buy sliced cheese and grated cheese after working out that they usually DON'T cost more per kilo to buy than a block.

Also apparently Greg Wallace is going to argue that margarine is not an unhealthy choice compared to butter! WTF? Apparently as it has less sat fat it is "healthier".

Watching with interest.

These are already annoying me.
Imagine eating the same thing every single bloody week.

lastqueenofscotland · 24/09/2015 20:18

Also maybe I'm in an mn bubble but it always amazes me what crap people eat.

ilovechristmas123 · 24/09/2015 20:24

i really dont get how so many familys spend £200+ a week

PurpleDaisies · 24/09/2015 20:24

I can't get over how the commentary seems to think sausage pasta is something amazingly different. Haven't they just swapped chicken for sausage?!

Madbengalmum · 24/09/2015 20:27

God, these people actually think that spag bol is made from a jar, fajitas =old el paso, yuck. People really do eat some crap dont they!
The way they were looking at the sausage pasta was like it was something from outer space, i dont think they get out much.

SwedishEdith · 24/09/2015 20:29

I bet she doesn't like handling actual food.

PurpleDaisies · 24/09/2015 20:29

I know! Don't get me wrong, we buy frozen pizza and use jar sauces for curry if we're in a rush but almost single meal from pre made stuff is depressing.

ilovechristmas123 · 24/09/2015 20:29

their incomes must be huge to spend that

my income is £500 a week, morgage paid and 2 adults 1 child and i spend approx £60pw and thats everything and i dont drive

how do they manage with rent/morgage/cars etc

lastqueenofscotland · 24/09/2015 20:30

God the sausage pasta may well have been Sheep eyes.

God. And everything from a jar/ premade. Ick. Idk why I just always assume that people don't really eat like that.. Just have it occasionally cause it's easier. Clearly they do!

PurpleDaisies · 24/09/2015 20:33

Who buys one tub of ice cream a week? We buy expensive ice cream less often because it really is nicer.

blibblobblub · 24/09/2015 20:33

I was just saying to DH, do you think people build up to being like this and spending so much? Is it a gradual thing? Or is it just two clueless people who come together and don't really know how to food shop?

sooperdooper · 24/09/2015 20:35

Buying an actual carrot just 'never occurred' to him?? What planet do these people come from Confused

I've never understood people who have a set weekly menu, how utterly boring

PurpleDaisies · 24/09/2015 20:37

I guess they might get something as a treat and then just keep buying it blib. When I send my husband shopping is is always much more expensive because he buys brand stuff that I only get when it is on offer. I normally get several when if is cheap so he thinks that's the right think to get regardless of if it is on bogof or some other offer.

lastqueenofscotland · 24/09/2015 20:38

I meal plan but it's always different! I love cooking and variety.

And bottled water is a massive pet hate of mine.

emotionsecho · 24/09/2015 20:39

I just can't believe they buy the same things week in week out and don't know how much they spend, equally I am shocked at how much the people featured on this programme spend on food. They've eaten the same meal on the same day for 7 years, the mind boggles.

The sausage and pasta must have been the shock of the new!

blibblobblub · 24/09/2015 20:41

Purple aye, maybe.

I know there are some weeks when I go shopping and don't really feel like I've bought anything but still spend the same as normal. It is easy to spend more without noticing. But to do it every week!

Madbengalmum · 24/09/2015 20:42

Shock horror a tin opener!!!!

blibblobblub · 24/09/2015 20:43

Heaven forbid! A tin opener!

I'd totally be able to tell if Coke was swapped out though.

SwedishEdith · 24/09/2015 20:46

Who's the male presenter who's not Greg? I find him rather pleasing on the eye.

lastqueenofscotland · 24/09/2015 20:49

I could defs tell between coke.

Madbengalmum · 24/09/2015 20:50

I genuinely think these two have been stuck in a time warp, how do they go on if they go out. Surely they wouldnt know what half of the ingredients and flavours were??

SwedishEdith · 24/09/2015 20:53

I wouldn't eat that crappy pizza either, tbh. But, they could have taught them how to make pizza dough. Easy peasy even though I don't make it, partner does

Madbengalmum · 24/09/2015 20:55

Jesus, she doesnt know what pollock is!

AnchorDownDeepBreath · 24/09/2015 20:56

I'd absolutely know if my coke was changed. I also wouldn't buy it one can at a time if she drinks it regularly.

These two are annoying and their diets are terrible. It's worse than mine!

emotionsecho · 24/09/2015 20:58

By the Heavens she is annoying!

I bet when they go out to eat they order the same thing every time, if they go abroad they seek out a place that serves 'English' food.
