Eat Well For Less? BBC1

They are looking at a family food spend.

Family of 5 is spending well over national average - about £220pw.

THey are being slated for buying "expensive" sliced cheese. I'm a pretty savy shopper and I will buy sliced cheese and grated cheese after working out that they usually DON'T cost more per kilo to buy than a block.

Also apparently Greg Wallace is going to argue that margarine is not an unhealthy choice compared to butter! WTF? Apparently as it has less sat fat it is "healthier".

Watching with interest.

Some people just don't think these things through though. I cant watch this till the morning because I only have catchup.

I'm sure I will be suitably outraged tomorrow.

LovelyFriend · 03/09/2015 20:35

It's daft.
I'm going to need a gin

Thank God the husband is finally cooking!

firefly78 · 03/09/2015 20:38

what did the kids have for breakfast? yeh why is mum getting all the stick not dad?

lastqueenofscotland · 03/09/2015 20:38

These programmes always amaze me how some people seem to find writing a meal plan like organising a trip to Mars.
The food waste is OFFENSIVE I don't believe in best befores etc I use my common sense.

Also a lot of ideas that women should do ALL the cooking.

Oh and she just said unfreezed instead of defrosted argh

tethersend · 03/09/2015 20:38

If he wants to cook more, why didn't he? And why then are they focusing on her if he wants to cook?

I hate this programme. Why can't I stop watching it? Grin

JuneFromBethesda · 03/09/2015 20:39

I don't think I can bear to watch the whole thing

Those tuna burgers look rank

JuneFromBethesda · 03/09/2015 20:40

Grin tethersend, me too

musicposy · 03/09/2015 20:41

I buy sliced cheese because it works out much cheaper. I can say "no more than one slice" per sandwich (two if I'm feeling flush) to family and they stick with it. It I buy a block DH carves off a massive wedge to put in (and getting him to measure the thickness with a micrometer comes across as a tad petty)!

Agree re marg and butter - butter so much healthier AND cheaper. You can get a block of butter for around 90p if you're careful.

lastqueenofscotland · 03/09/2015 20:41

Oh my Christ she can't use a cheese grater.

LovelyFriend · 03/09/2015 20:41

struggling to grate cheese
hahahahahahahahahaha

Where do they get their money from? I couldn't have afforded to live like this even when I was on a very good salary.

LovelyFriend · 03/09/2015 20:44

I never pay more than 90p for butter these days.

Why didn't they make their own pizza bases - scared of yeast? Making my own pizza dough has been a revelation and you can make it using organic flour for under £2, much less if you used non-organic flour, have enough for a family of 5 twice over. and the dough freezes really well.

Smartiepants79 · 03/09/2015 20:44

Well how DO you defrost cheese?? Hmm

LovelyFriend · 03/09/2015 20:45

they should have just taken them to Lidl

firefly78 · 03/09/2015 20:45

feeling virtuous watching this whilst eating homemade soup

goawayalready · 03/09/2015 20:46

those tuna burgers look expensive three tins of john west tuna is saving money?

programs like this always piss me off its always eat veg and of course the kids LOVE the veg and sit around a table and the kids always say its better when we do that make food from scratch because it tastes nicer and usually a parent suddenly becomes a chef then they get the kids involved and of course they are brilliant at it

call me cynical but im not convinced its not a "troll" program

and of course the children are all in after school clubs they excell at Hmm

HeadFairy · 03/09/2015 20:46

Smartiepants... take it out of the freezer Grin

It's not.

OP posts:
HeadFairy · 03/09/2015 20:49

goawayalready · 03/09/2015 20:50
