That's it really! I love GBBO and I'm sat here waiting....

just wish I had some chocolate to enjoy it with

(I apologise if someone has started a thread, just link me to it and ignore this if so! Grin)

It think there was a bit of a communication breakdown with Alvin, he didn't seem to know what sculpture was.

Moln · 21/08/2015 19:58

Also not warning to Ian. Not sure why, he seems perfectly lovely (if I've managed to get the right name to face).

Trills · 22/08/2015 10:09

Making your own baguettes looks like something that is fun to try once, but ultimately not worth it.

GrouchyKiwi · 22/08/2015 10:46

So worth it, Trills. They are much, much tastier than supermarket ones, for example.

ShutUpLegs · 22/08/2015 10:53

I knew Nadiya when our kids were little. She is exactly the same in RL - just lovely - warm and funny. I really hope she goes the distance.

MadGrumblyGnome · 22/08/2015 11:13

The lion was incredible. Agree Dorrer had to go, the others were just steaming ahead. And Sandy is my new favourite. Her sound bites are hilarious.

I bake bread a lot and have had a go at the tricky baguette. Was anyone else waiting for Paul to comment on the slashing? They had lames and everything! You've got to do weird almost vertical slashes on baguettes to get the lovely crusty openings along the top.

puts bread geek hat away

MadGrumblyGnome · 22/08/2015 11:13

*Dorret

Supercosmicrays · 22/08/2015 18:55

Had a go at making baguettes once from PHs book

One was long & thin, one short & fat. They looked like baguettes but tasted weirdly like crumpets. Confused

We ate them tho, the kids called them bumpets Grin

Hellokitty105 · 22/08/2015 23:00

Yay so glad to have found a thread! Just caught up with extra slice! I have to admit I was team Dorret cause I know her not sure who I'm backing now! Dessert week this week, can't wait!

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 23/08/2015 01:04

After watching Extra Slice, I agree that Dorrett didn't seem too bothered. I don't think she enjoyed it and actually it seemed like she didn't want to be there. Who would go on national television in a competition and attempt something without practising even though you have weeks to do so.

I was really surprised she brought her cut out frog biscuits for Extra Slice too. They were so unimpressive the first time and even more the second time round. Completely underwhelming. What she should have done is bought her mousse black forest. She could have shown everyone what it was meant to look like. After all, it is a second chance.

Moln · 23/08/2015 07:10

Watch extra slice too (and now even more confused as to how a baguette is supposed to be slashed!).

Though I got the idea that Dorret didn't mind that she didn't win because she was out to enjoyed it. JI think she changed her mind on her show stopper too late to find time to try out as the bake off wasn't going to be all consuming of her life just fun.

She struck me as someone quite happy to laugh as the muck ups and doesn't need to prove herself to the country as she knows she can do it. and that's why she brought he frogs. Am I totally off the mark Hellokitty105?

ppeatfruit · 24/08/2015 09:32

Of course Dorret may just not have had the time to practice. (or remake her BFG) they take ages to make . Grin

surpriseitsme · 24/08/2015 09:53

Wooohoooo I found you all! Going for coffee so can rtft

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 24/08/2015 10:40

oh, read the whole thing

I love The Governor...he gave Hollywood a right look this week, he won't kowtow to any of PH's nonsense.

I did not like Sandie at first but after she upended the bottle of kirsch into her BFG mix I thought she could not be all bad

Nadiya is very sweet

Starbaker twice chap is on my list....and that is NOT a good thing
Fireman chap...may blossom
Alvin and Tamal, are on the good list.

So far I have been forced to make Biscotti....hazelnut, cherry and berry, they were delish.
Also made arlettes, but I did buy the pastry, they were pointless. Worked really well but, very meh, not at all worth the fuss, even taking into account the bought pastry.

I also do not care for all the 3D biscuit week malarkey, I think baking two or three different types of biscuit would be a far better challenge than all this construction.

Same for the bread showstopper really....make the bloody bread and stop arsing about with planning permission and building warrants.

Icimoi · 24/08/2015 10:40

I must say I wouldn't fancy transporting a mousse cake, even by car.

ppeatfruit · 24/08/2015 11:04

Yes agree about the building of biscuits Tondelayo Why can't they use gluten free flour for their biscuits for example?

LoveVintage · 24/08/2015 13:25

Anyone think that Mary has been a bit snippy this series compared to usual?

Prison Paul is devoid of personality.

PaulH even more humourless than ever.

Love Nadiya. Fireman chap seems nice too and VW woman's sound bites most amusing.

Hellokitty105 · 24/08/2015 14:08

Yeah Dorret was defo more laid back than some of the others, I think she didn't really have chance to show what she can do. A lot of the bakers do seem advanced for amatures! I mean I love to bake but couldn't construct master peices like they do! some of the show stoppers have been unbelievable and I think it boils town to creativity! I don't understand the point of letting them practice at home! Surely it would make more entertainment and be more realistic for all challenges/showstoppers be a surprise. I'd be on Pinterest looking for inspiration knowing the task in advance Wink

surpriseitsme · 25/08/2015 13:18

Sandie is my eldest DDs mentor in school so I'm biased to start with #teamsandie

Piratejones · 25/08/2015 13:20

Have you told her she's the spitting image of Victoria wood?

surpriseitsme · 25/08/2015 15:22

Hahaha I've never met her. From what dd has told me she works with the behaviourally challenged students which explains why my dd sees her!

Supercosmicrays · 25/08/2015 18:37

I though Mary sounded hoarse, as though she'd had a bit of a cold.

Ian is too Peter Perfect for me, I'm not keen on anyone who goes 'foraging' or 'sourcing' ingredients. Just get it from Tesco/Waitrose/Aldi like the rest of us and stop being so bloody pretentious.

Nothing like that impresses PH anyway

Hellokitty105 · 26/08/2015 08:55

Ready for tonight! Been excited all week for this!

Squooshed · 26/08/2015 16:34

Have just watched last week's episode.

I was cringing for Dorrett, couldn't have taken another week of her ineptitude so I'm very relieved she got the shove.

Lion Face loaf was amazing but my God that man is so humourless and boring. Maybe making lion shaped bread is his one talent in life.

I love Alvin and his overly emotional Oscar acceptance faces.

Ian is very good indeed....but definitely a feathery stroker. He'd dedicate sonnets to your earlobes and sing warbly and heartfelt Elizabethan madrigals to you post shag.

Nadiya is sill my favourite but she needs to step it up a bit.

Davros · 26/08/2015 16:59

Did someone say gluten free? I think this week is GF and no white sugar (or maybe next week, always read ahead in radio times)
