That's it really! I love GBBO and I'm sat here waiting....

just wish I had some chocolate to enjoy it with

(I apologise if someone has started a thread, just link me to it and ignore this if so! Grin)

Glad hat man went and Dorret stayed.

I love baking but for all the free Gin in the world I could not stand the pressure of being in the Bake Off!

Roussette · 06/08/2015 07:43

My heart sunk at the same time as Dorret's cake slid! She was SO upset and I'm so glad she stayed, they could see the potential in her but not in hipster man. hate beetroot anyway and as for calling it a purple forest gateau... he deserves to go!

Can I join in! Love bake off and DH is rubbish at cake drama ( only good at eating them Grin. Glad dorrett stayed.

BumpTheElephant · 06/08/2015 08:02

I just want to know wtf that bloke put an elephant on his black forest gateau! Rabbit, squirrel...and an elephant.

I'm glad Stu went. He was trying too hard and it didn't work.

coffeenowalnuts · 06/08/2015 08:04

I was unimpressed with the fruit and nut cake theme this week, nothing I would have found tempting, though some of the cakes looked stunning. Pleased to see the standard remains high (except for hat man who I'm convinced must know someone on the production staff.)

TheTravellingLemon · 06/08/2015 08:11

Oh I love a good bake off Smile. Sending stu home was the right decision I think.

Does anyone know if an extra slice is still on? I caught up on iplayer last night and couldn't see it.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/08/2015 08:12

There were two from Perthshire. One was Martha mark 2 Flora and the other was one of the older ladies whose name I forget. I have decided on no evidence at all that they are granny and granddaughter and all will be revealed at the end.

Really enjoyed the first one, but agree with everyone else, it gets better as the numbers go down and we get to know them. Roll on next Wednesday!

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/08/2015 08:13

Extra slice is on Fridays. First one this week.

Trills · 06/08/2015 08:16

I don't know how you can know names already - I never get the names til we are down to 8 or below.

TheTravellingLemon · 06/08/2015 08:29

Thanks Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g. I can never watch these things live, so I always have to wait before I can read the thread.

I also prefer it as the numbers go down, but you have to still invest the time at the beginning in order to get the pay off later on Smile

florentina1 · 06/08/2015 09:01

Good result, the hat really irritated me.

ElementaryMyDearWatson · 06/08/2015 09:02

I loved the fact that the rabbit was as big as the elephant on that cake.

I'm a bit concerned that they've started the reaction shots of some contestants apparently looking smug when another has a disaster. I think it's very unfair, and you never know whether that's just editing and they were actually reacting to something completely different.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/08/2015 09:11

I wanted him out from the first moment I saw that hat. He could have been the best baker in the world and I would still have wanted him turfed out.

chaiselounger · 06/08/2015 09:19

Thought this episode was a bit weirder and a bit more full on, than previous series.

Roussette · 06/08/2015 09:23

To me, wearing a hat whilst baking is like wearing an overcoat!

Ladbrokes has suspended betting on GBBO as 90% of bets were on one contestant to the maximum allowed and the majority of the bets were in one area! Apparently the baker (not named) has no known links to this area - let's hope it was just chinese whispers!

RebootYourEngine · 06/08/2015 10:19

Glad stu left however the look on some of the other contestants faces seemed to be shock and disbelief. I thought dorrit was going home.

Extra slice is on fridays i think.

feezap · 06/08/2015 10:25

Yes! The hipster was indeed sacrificial as DH thought he would be. Glad he's gone and not poor Dorrit. Noel, we said he'd be straight back to his cereal café!

Prison Hollywood - is he a bit too intense? (haha, accidental pun!) I reckon he'll be great watching in weeks to come, especially when things go wrong.

Oh I am so glad I found mumsnet and now have this thread, it will totally enhance my bake off enjoyment Grin

TheTravellingLemon · 06/08/2015 10:39

feezap prison Hollywood was so intense. I loved that bit about scanning the cakes on the way into prison. Never. Joke. About. Security. Grin

CrystalMcPistol · 06/08/2015 10:47

At some point Prison Hollywood has to bake a cake with a file hidden in the middle!

SirPercyPilkington · 06/08/2015 11:05

Young Scottish girl seems a pain in the arse. She'll probably win.
I like G&T cake man.

CrystalMcPistol · 06/08/2015 11:08

G&T man is this year's 'builder bloke with pencil behind his ear'.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 06/08/2015 11:17

I like Sandy (a powerhouse of self confidence Grin), Nadiya, Tamal. The rest I can take or leave, though I did feel sorry for Dorret with the sloppy mudslide.

I quite fancy Prison Paul Blush, to me he looks more like Greg Davies than PH and he's big and capable and seems nice.

Roussette · 06/08/2015 12:08

Yes but I am wondering if PP (Prison Paul) is a bit humourless - I know it's a competition but I go for the likeable ones who can brush it off or laugh at themselves.

Squeezy, that would be my list too with perhaps Dorrit thrown in if there are no more chocolate landslides

OP posts:
SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 06/08/2015 12:14

Yes, I know what you mean re PP, Sue's joke with the file went down like a fart in a spacesuit.

Dorret seems likeable but I'm not sure her baking is up to scratch.

chocolatechip123 · 06/08/2015 12:26

I likes the Scottish granny who bakes every day. I was so desperate for cake last night!
