That's it really! I love GBBO and I'm sat here waiting....

just wish I had some chocolate to enjoy it with

(I apologise if someone has started a thread, just link me to it and ignore this if so! Grin)

The Scottish girl is quite annoying - wins the most middle class comment with "I forgot to put the oven on because at home we have an Aga and it's always on"

hat man deserved to go.

How do you pronounce the Eastern European girl's name ? She's obviously super competitive but never eats the output.....you can't be a bodybuilder and cake fanatic - just doesn't wash with me.

DownAtFraggleRock · 06/08/2015 14:53

When she mentioned the Aga I said to DH 'she's fucked if she usually uses an Aga and now has to use a normal oven'.... we shall see Grin

I love Nadiya - every emotion written plain as day across her face Grin

They all looked terrified...quite rightly.

ppeatfruit · 06/08/2015 14:58

Found you!! I just left a post on another GBBO thread and I've just read this one I'm a glutton for it I tell you Grin No one noticed that the trainee anaesthetist was using a hypodermic to put the syrup in his madeira cake fgs I laughed and laughed Grin.

I liked it a lot, I'm pleased that Mel and Sue were on it and they baked proper cakes I love black forest gateaux.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 06/08/2015 15:35

I like Flora's hair. I want bouncy posh girl hair like that.

I liked Marie for looking so utterly stunned when she won at the end.

AesopsMables · 06/08/2015 22:13

I adore Black Forest Gateaux, it is the only chocolate cake I will eat. Lovely to see it on GBBO last night.

Someone told me today that Flora is a professional baker?

VivaLeBeaver · 06/08/2015 22:16

You can't beat a Sarah Lee Black Forest gateaux.

ppeatfruit · 07/08/2015 15:32

Oh yes you can Viva Have you read the ingredients in those cakes?

VivaLeBeaver · 07/08/2015 16:43

They taste great. Grin

Ive never made a Black Forest gateaux myself, looks a load of faff.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 07/08/2015 16:44

It is quite a faff but worth it!

TheSpottedZebra · 07/08/2015 21:24

Am watching Extra Slice. Jo Brand is widely regarded as one fo the nicest people in Show Businezzzzz, yet I think she's fallen out with her makeup artist. Wtf has happened with her face powder? Unless they used flour, as a witty baking reference?

Poor, floury Jo Sad

PancakeHen · 07/08/2015 21:34

I noticed the anesthetist injecting his cake! Grin

ppeatfruit · 07/08/2015 21:47

I have made one BFG in my life in the 70s to impress my bf of the time it worked Grin .It was a faff but a lovely flavour.

LatinForTelly · 08/08/2015 12:30

Oh I didn't notice Jo's powder. I will have another look when DD watches Extra Slice. I do like Jo.

They seem a good bunch this year. Lots of potential characters. Tamal and Sandy are favourites in this house because of their syringe and dry humour. Nadiya and Ugne are likeable too, I think, and poor Dorret.

I can't tell two of the men apart either, Roussette. To be fair, I am crap with faces.

ppeatfruit · 08/08/2015 14:01

I thought Jo didn't seem very comfortable though. I liked the 2 blokes on her programme not so sure about the ex strictly judge.

They do seem a good bunch of contestants LatinFor

An Aga doesn't necessarily mean Middle class. I think Aga-type ovens are common in country settings. My aunt has one in rural Ireland

chocolatechip123 · 09/08/2015 23:51

Maybe she lives on a farm. Very practical on draughty farms they are.

Trills · 10/08/2015 08:11

In the "rural setting" where I grew up, Agas belonged to people who owned or ran farms. Not people who just worked on farms. They stayed in place in houses through generations.

outtolunchagain · 10/08/2015 08:28

I agree , Agas definitely not the preserve of the MC here in the sticks either .Many houses heat their water as well with the Aga and houses are sold with Aga in place .Admittedky in the film though the kitchen did look quite smart Smile

Trills · 10/08/2015 08:36

It's not quite the same thing as "middle class", but either you or your ancestors have to have been pretty well off to have an aga in the first place.

If you were poor you'd have had (depending on the time):
open fire
enclosed fire with iron "oven" next to it (a bit like an aga but not something you'd still be using now)
crappy gas cooker (likely running off bottled gas because there is no mains gas in many rural areas)
crappy electric cooker.

BecksTroll · 10/08/2015 08:40

Agree...Monkseal is my favourite blogger. Adore his recaps. Looking forward to Strictly too. He makes me laugh out loud. I don't know what he does in real life but I hope he is compensated for his blog/gets noticed somehow although I suspect he does it out of love. I see live ogs from journos and Heidi Stephens aside, they just do not compare.

BecksTroll · 10/08/2015 08:41

blogs not ogs. I am not in the night garden.

MyVisionsComeFromSoup · 10/08/2015 09:05

IRL Monkseal is a techy type (having googled). I always imagined he was more showbizzy. DD2 and I have a competition to be the first to call "new Monkseal" each week Grin.

ppeatfruit · 10/08/2015 10:12

I'm a bit Hmm about MC being used as a term of abuse, we're just people you know and a lot of us would like Agas but can't afford them. (sad lower MC person here) Grin

Davros · 10/08/2015 12:35

I suspect that the majority of MN is MC, inc me, and I don't see why anyone should apologise for it (so there!)
