Anyone watching?

Am very intrigued to see how this goes..

You're all saying what I thought. I really felt sorry for the groom when the blonde kept exclaiming, "awkward!" because I think he was quite enjoying the wedding.

I'm perplexed that the scientists don't seem to have done anything other than find very similar matches Confused

AmberFool · 17/07/2015 17:46

Kate and Jason look like mirror images of each other. Certainly saw the spark between them, Jason was a wee bit sleazy though.

Poor James. Emma was clearly nervous and disappointed. Still, I thought he handled it well.

People do marry strangers though, in some cultures.

People do marry strangers though, in some cultures.

Yes, they do, but they grow up with that expectation and chances are their families and friends also have arranged marriages so they're all expecting it and supporting the couple. As for four English people who don't come from a culture of arranged marriages - its just a bit weird and very artificial. I can't imagine being thrown together with a complete stranger for five weeks and expected to create a relationship with them that could last a lifetime. What about chemistry FFS? No one has yet written a questionnaire that can judge who you fancy.

I give James and Emma zero chance of working out. Kate and Jason - maybe - but the trailer for next week suggested that they don't make it either.

StepfauxWife · 17/07/2015 20:18

Eek just watching on catch up! I really want them all to hit it off..

RebootYourEngine · 18/07/2015 10:16

Kate & jason seemed like they had known each other for years. I hope they work out. As for the other two there doesnt seem to be anything there apart from awkwardness.

RebootYourEngine · 18/07/2015 10:17

Wasnt there a mumsnetter whose sister or someone had applied for this programme.

StepfauxWife · 18/07/2015 20:08

I felt so bad for James who seems ever so lovely. His "wife" was quite clearly disappointed, I couldn't bare it when the photographer asked them to kiss Blush I hope they had a nice honeymoon at least.

Am looking forward to next week's episode already!

I love this programme and am cheering them on.

msrisotto · 18/07/2015 21:16

This programme is a bit nuts, i'd love for it to work out for them but I think James is far nicer than Emma. She was sabotaging it from the minute she walked through the door.

APlaceOnTheCouch · 19/07/2015 00:47

I've just caught up with this on catch-up and loved it. I'm willing Jason and Kate to work, and feel very sorry for James. I do think Emma's mum seemed a bit negative about the process, and obviously her dad didn't come to the wedding, so perhaps that's why she's being such hard work.

It's funny that a PP said the couples didn't know they were going to be filmed. Apparently the concept started on Danish TV and one of the first women to go through it said the same thing ie she thought she was signing up to a serious scientific experiment about attraction, and ended up in a reality programme!

Imagine if both couples end up wonderfully happy and decide to stay together, they'll have lots of people queuing up to take part in the next series. Did anyone else wonder if the girl who dropped out (Sam) would now track down her match and date him without the cameras and without the wedding and her family's disapproval ? Grin

2rebecca · 19/07/2015 10:57

How can you not know it's going to be filmed when there are TV cameras following you around?
The people filmed don't seem that stupid. One of the attractions of the programme is that it's not your average reality programme "I just want to be on telly but have nothing to say worth listening to" contestants. They seem more intelligent and thoughtful.
Jason and Kate seem quite alike where as I'm not seeing the similarities between James and Emma at all. He's quite soft and open where as she's a bit false and brittle and I agree was out to sabotage it from the moment she saw him. Maybe this programme brings out her prickly side but she comes across as really hard to please where as James seems really easy going.
If you're going to judge on first appearances then you don't sign up for an arranged marriage.

JohnFarleysRuskin · 19/07/2015 11:01

I think James will do well out of it - he does come across as generous spirited and funny (if not very handsome, sorry James) I reckon women will be queuing up for him.

I think all of them are quite mad for agreeing to it!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 19/07/2015 11:30

2rebecca I wonder if something was lost in translation and the Danish woman meant she did know she would be filmed but expected a programme more like Horizon than TOWIE ie lab shots and statistics rather than 'let's see you snogging for the cameras'.

Araisaris · 19/07/2015 12:00

JohnFarley see that's why no-one can account for that spark as James is exactly the kind of guy I'd be attracted to. There's no accounting for taste Grin

2rebecca · 19/07/2015 14:21

I think both the blokes are handsome in different ways and I would be happy with both in a blind date, probably explains why I've not been long without a man, just not that fussy/ easily pleased...

2rebecca · 19/07/2015 14:22

I think I liked the bloke whose women pulled out as well....

WickedWax · 19/07/2015 14:28

James reminds me of James Corden, I think he's lovely but Emma? is all wrong for him. I don't know why she went thru with it, she doesn't seem to have thrown herself into it at all.

Ingles2 · 19/07/2015 20:21

No Emma definitely seems like hard work.. Maybe she would only work with a easy going softy, as she is the controlling/domineering one... Being that type myself, and married to a gentle, easy going man , I know it would have been fireworks with someone too similar to me ????
I just loved that Kate looked so happy/thrilled with it all... And he was caught up With it all! Bless! I hope it works (am v sentimental... And romantic!)

AmberFool · 19/07/2015 22:31

aplaceon the couch. I had exactly the same thought about the woman who pulled out and the disappointed bloke. I thought I wonder if they like the look of each other when the programmed aired and I did think there was nothing to stop them meeting in real life for a date.

MitzyLeFrouf · 21/07/2015 13:39

Ugh, how desperate for attention would you need to be to participate in this nonsense?

Nothing but scorn for the lot of them. Saddos.

MitzyLeFrouf · 21/07/2015 13:40

Emma was especially irritating! And only 32? Cripes.

Myturnnow4 · 21/07/2015 13:42

I didn't get the impression that they were doing this for attention. Their main motivations seemed to be curiosity in the approach and a desire to meet the right person.

Why do you think that they are "sad"? What do you mean by "only 32?"?

MitzyLeFrouf · 21/07/2015 13:45

I think it's 'sad' to be so desperate for attention and/or affection that you agree to marry a total stranger on TV. I'm sure there are still matchmakers out there that provide this service without the TV wedding cringefest aspect.

And 'only 32' because she looks so much older.

nottheOP · 21/07/2015 13:49

I loved this last week - I didn't realise that we had missed the first episode so I might watch that on catch up later. Either way, I'm totally suckered in now!

MitzyLeFrouf · 21/07/2015 13:51

I don't think you missed an episode, I was watching a repeat.
