With Miley gone, never to be heard of for the next 15 years until she turns up with a new head, at least Emily won't have to babysit her every day and night for the foreseeable future.

New thread where we can hope the scriptwriters wake up and actually start paying attention to plot lines and character histories.

Kym Marsh was awful though

Sparklingbrook · 08/07/2015 20:03

I agree Doc. the house scene was really really strange. I would have thought a phone call to Ken, then him disappearing for a bit then returning to break the news would have been kinder.

Can't take any of Tracy Luv's acting seriously.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 08/07/2015 20:46

The house scene was dreadful. Kym Marsh was embarrassing. The only bit that didn't seem forced and am-dram was Steve and Ken in the ginnel.

I really expected a lot more genuine emotion given the circumstances - Emily was the only one who seemed really upset. I wonder if they were all trying too hard to not make it personal so went the other way

Sparklingbrook · 08/07/2015 20:50

Yes possibly Costa it must have been horrible to film, but it was all very wooden and amateur.

Fantasyland · 08/07/2015 20:52

I'm really sorry to say this but I didn't think they did this as well as they could have done.

When Vera died the scenes with jack were heartbreaking ,touching and realistic but this was weird.
No one really looked shocked and you would have thought Tracey would have reacted in anger throwing things.

southeastdweller · 08/07/2015 20:52

Bev's speech was awkward. Surely Ken or Tracey-Luv would interrupt her and demand to know then how Deirdre died and if there's anything she could have done to prevent it?

What got to me most was at the Rovers when Liz announced Deirdre's death - I could feel real emotion from Beverley Callard at that point. And also Emily breaking down Sad.

AgathaChristie01 · 08/07/2015 20:59

I'm kind of glad that part is over. I agree with other comments. Some of it felt very stilted.
I was so glad when Steve walked out, for the cigarette, and I knew he would go to Ken. I would say very genuine emotion on the part of Liz. I also thought Emily breaking down was very realistic, and I'd say possibly not having to act. They really worked closely together for so long.

Once again RIP Deirdre, one of my absolute favourites, and gone far too soon.

AnguaResurgam · 08/07/2015 21:12

I thought it was very clunky.

And as the death was unexpected, the coroner will have to consider the case (if they're going to be remotely realistic) which would have an impact on the timing of release of the body for the funeral.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 08/07/2015 21:18

Oh yes, Emily was realistic too.

I think Ken should have had a call that Deirdre was unwell maybe and dashed off then returned later to say that sadly she had died.

Ohwhatfuckeryisthis · 08/07/2015 21:22

big softy dH decreed that we had to watch something else (because he'd be sobbing), so I'll watch omnibus. Disappointed they bolloxed it up.

hildasmuriel · 08/07/2015 22:06

I liked the bit with the glasses and I thought characters looked shocked and numb which I guess is how they would be. It was clunky but I think a lot of that was down to us knowing what was to come. Thought Steve and Ken was touching.

hildasmuriel · 08/07/2015 22:09

But where was Eccles?

HirplesWithHaggis · 08/07/2015 22:12

The bit with the glasses reminded me of Hilda Ogden when Stan died.

Sparklingbrook · 08/07/2015 22:14

I am not sure about the glasses. I suppose it was because they were her trademark. but it would have made more sense to have brought her whole handbag.

firefly78 · 08/07/2015 22:21

oh it was sad. i thought tracy was quite good. Ken is a dreadful actor

AgathaChristie01 · 08/07/2015 22:35

I agree. I thought it was an attempt to recreate the Hilda scene, but I couldn't help thinking, why did she bring the glasses...
Bev then said she had Deirdre's bags in the car which made slightly more sense to me.
I love Steve. Sometimes there are no words, and I loved that he embraced Ken. He was the right person to be there, he is just so kind.

NoMontagues · 08/07/2015 22:36

I haven't seen it yet, I have to wait until I have the house to myself.

millimat · 08/07/2015 23:02

I agree that Tracy and Emily were great. Glasses def because they were Deirdres trademark. People may have commented on the awful acting but I still cried Blush

Sparklingbrook · 08/07/2015 23:03

At least Dev wasn't around to give ab bad acting masterclass.

FraggleHair · 08/07/2015 23:05

Poor Dev's heart will be broken when he hears the news.......

SwedishEdith · 08/07/2015 23:20

Agree that this was really badly handled. The house scene - surely she would have rung Ken earlier as soon as she found Deirdre dead? That simply was not plausible. And even the way she was talking about her was really unconvincing. She's died that day hadn't she? Have I got that right? Really weird and matter of fact.

I thought Liz, Tracey and Emily were much more realistic though. Must have been very hard for the cast to do this.

AgathaChristie01 · 09/07/2015 00:31

I wish they had dropped the Sarah / Callum rubbish, just for tonight. Yes, life goes on, etc, but...

Pyjamaramadrama · 09/07/2015 08:25

I haven't seen last nights yet just rejoining thread.
