With Miley gone, never to be heard of for the next 15 years until she turns up with a new head, at least Emily won't have to babysit her every day and night for the foreseeable future.

New thread where we can hope the scriptwriters wake up and actually start paying attention to plot lines and character histories.

Cannot stand stupid small Sarah and her daughter, and faye, tracey, Amy, Anna, Michelle, alia, izzy....... makes be so sad as a lifelong corrie watcher. Corrie was known for its strong female characters like bet, ivy, deirdre, Elsie, mavis..... goodness me what are the writers thinking with today's crock pot of terrible characters who can't act. I'm in the minority as I do like Gail and Audrey.

The funeral was immensely disappointing. Shame in you corrie. There were more characters present at mileys non - christening.

hildasmuriel · 15/07/2015 11:29

I like Gail and Audrey too, there's not many characters I don't like (except whiney Maria), it's the silly storylines and lack of continuity I don't like.

I think Ozzy must have been upstairs eating his dog biscuits and listening to 'Who Let the Dogs Out' on his walk mam for about 5 years. I love that my spell check changed Walkman to walk mam so much, it's a proper northern spell check, love it do much I'm leaving it in.

AgathaChristie01 · 15/07/2015 11:52

I like Gail but hate what has been done to her, having her gazing at that waste of space Michael, and being jealous that he is in Eileen's company. I thought that fake Gavin story would never end, and it was rubbish.
This is a woman who faced down so many challenges from Ivy Tilsley to Richard Hillman, and so many more. I think Helen Worth does not deserve the rubbish storylines she has been given, of late.

Always liked Audrey, and I like any scenes containing the old faithfuls like Rita and Emily. I'm very sorry to see Carla leave, again on a rubbish storyline. I doubt she will return unless there is a major improvement in the Street overall.
I cannot take Callum, Sarah and Bethany, in any way seriously. I would not miss Alya and all of her family, if they disappeared tomorrow. I don't think they bring anything to the Street. I'm glad Andrea is leaving.

The fire now seems to be more or less forgotten. Same as the bus crash...

Reignbeau · 15/07/2015 11:52

I can't stand Bethany either. They managed to cast age appropriate actors for Craig and Faye, how did they get it so wrong with Bethany?

hildasmuriel · 15/07/2015 12:54

I think a lot of the problem with Bethany is that Sarah looks so young so, by comparison, Bethany looks daft. Writers seem to think that if they cast an older girl then they can do more controversial storylines such as the drinking, Callum stuff but she's still supposed to be 14. It didn't help either that I was watching another programme with Bethany in where she was an adult.

ProfYaffle · 15/07/2015 13:19

Oh God, the Carla story line! One game of poker and she's a gambling addict within a week! Totally ridiculous.

BreconBeBuggered · 15/07/2015 13:42

Betting storylines are always so fucking tedious. Is poker really that popular for a spot of clandestine gambling in real life? I suppose it might well be, but then knitting is popular too, and about as interesting to watch.

sweetgrape · 15/07/2015 14:58

It would have worked so much better if Bethany was a very young 13 or 14 year old. Instead we have a very mature looking daughter with an extremely young looking mother, and it just looks ridiculous. Giving too much air time to young actors on Corrie doesn't work, unless of course they can act. You just don't get any humour out of them. I loved Corrie years ago when we had Mavis and Derek, Hilda and Stan, Annie Walker and Bet Lynch, Blanche and Deidre, to name just a few. All strong characters that could act and made you want to watch. A lot of the characters we have now are dull and can't act and we just don't care about them.

AgathaChristie01 · 15/07/2015 15:05

Exactly sweet. I love going back and watching old episodes. I loved so many of the old / long established characters. I was watching the 50 Years dvd recently, and it was interesting listening to a scriptwriter talking about particular storylines, and how they prepared the actor involved, for it.
There is no sense of that now at all, in my opinion. Characters are changed to suit a storyline and the continuity is very poor.

sweetgrape · 15/07/2015 15:16

Yes Agatha I love looking at the old episodes. Today's just can't compare. It was unmissable in those days. They didn't have mass murderers or blackmailers or trains derailing or huge explosions and fires. Just ordinary people living ordinary lives, but we were riveted by them. How have they got it so wrong.

AgathaChristie01 · 15/07/2015 18:03

I was watching the one last night where Vera was very ill, following an operation to donate her kidney. Norris spread a false rumour that she was dead.
Meanwhile, back on the street, the residents were battling to save the cobbles. Ken, Duggie Ferguson, Emily and Roy were the leaders, in the battle.
It was such a great mix of sadness, and humour, delivered by very credible characters, for whom we could genuinely care. Unmissable as you said sweet.

southeastdweller · 15/07/2015 18:19

Roy brings a lot of warmth and compassion to Corrie, imo, and I love his scenes with Roy and Carla. The show would be diminished without him, someone with depth and humour - compare him to the bores and the cartoony types, often played by people who are poor actors and it feels almost insulting to me that there's still so much deadwood around. I also feel the actor who plays him is still hugely underrated.

Yes to the awful casting decision for Bethany.

MitzyLeFrouf · 15/07/2015 19:36

Aww I'm happy to see Peter back!

Housewife2010 · 15/07/2015 19:43

Why did horny Peter have to return with his hair coated in chip fat?

woodhill · 15/07/2015 20:12

yes bit dyed and greasy

sweetgrape · 15/07/2015 20:40

I actually thought Tracy did a good bit of acting tonight. Put Ken and Peter in their place anyway.

DocHollywood · 15/07/2015 21:05

I liked the scene with Ken and Tracey but thought Peter was a bit out of order attacking Tracey seeing how much grief he's caused the family over the years. Anyone else think that they all made up pretty quickly?

Loved the oldies in the pub! Best line was Norris explaining the ups and downs of Ken and Deirdre's relationship - 'It was on and off more times than the light in Beth Tinker's fridge!' More of this humour please!!

Jo4040 · 15/07/2015 21:10

They kind of redeemed themselves in this episode a little bit. No Callum/Sarah/Bethany crap

sweetgrape · 15/07/2015 21:19

Maybe the scriptwriters have been reading this thread.Smile

southeastdweller · 15/07/2015 21:44

I was about to post the fabulous line tonight from Norris but Doc beat me to it.

Yes, the Barlow resolution was reached too quickly but otherwise that was a better than usual episode. Of course it helped there was no Bethany/Sarah/Callum. Tracey-Luv was right to talk about Peter and Ken's failings and I was annoyed when Peter of all people berated her for her parenting.

millimat · 15/07/2015 22:44

I was also gong to put about the pub anecdotes.
I actually felt sorry for Tracy tonightShock

Listmaker · 15/07/2015 23:11

Yeah much more like it tonight. Can't believe Peter lecturing Tracy about parenting given the stuff Simon has been through. Tracy's not a great mother but she's nowhere near as bad a parent as peter!!

HirplesWithHaggis · 16/07/2015 03:20

Is Peter actually Simon's dad though? Thought he was a stepdad to his late wife's son, who was (weirdly) "inherited" by Leanne when they split.

But I may well be wrong.

ProfYaffle · 16/07/2015 07:04

The Barlow storyline last night was very odd, all played out really quickly before reaching a storybook happy ending. I enjoyed the anecdotes in the pub though, the funeral episode should've had more of that.

(Peter is Simon's biological Dad)

NoMontagues · 16/07/2015 07:26

hirples no Simon is Peter's biological son with his wife who died.

I think Lianne adopted him when she and Peter were together, so she is actually his mum.
