Is anyone else looking forward to this? It is going to be shown on Sunday nights once the present series of 'Call the Midwife' has finished.

I loved the original series even though the story did stray from the books a bit. I wonder how this one will go. I understand Robin Ellis has a bit part in the new version as the Reverend Halse.

I didn't like the mean drunk Ross although it made sense in the context of the story.

I am laughing at the shirt burning, dh nudged me to make sure I was watching (he's good to me) and I did mention that surely Ross should burn ALL of his typhoid contaminated clothes...

TheDietStartsTomorrow · 14/04/2015 14:21

Ross is a lovely, considerate and humble man but if he doesn't stay 100%loyal and 100% kind and loving to Demelza I'll hate him for life .

Softcookie · 14/04/2015 16:18

Word, thediet

And if he does stray, his punishment shall be six months of shirtless scything.

badRoly · 14/04/2015 18:22

But only once he's burnt his typhus ridden breeches SoftCookie Wink

badRoly · 14/04/2015 18:23

In fact 6 months of naked scything...

Snowstorm · 14/04/2015 19:46

Following ... and hoping for more kit-off/action next week ... @#shallow

Pixel · 14/04/2015 20:46

Naked scything does sound rather dangerous though. He can keep his sturdy boots on Wink.

Softcookie · 14/04/2015 21:48

I made the mistake of reading up on the books. Not liking what's in store on the plot front Sad

Softcookie · 15/04/2015 08:33

Has everyone seen these reviews? Hilarious and actually quite insightful :)

TheOneWiththeNicestSmile · 15/04/2015 14:05

Thanks for that, softcookie - I hadn't seen them & you're right, they are superb Grin

Margrethe · 17/04/2015 14:11

Is it just me, or is the Ross character getting a little dull? Everyone around him is growing, changing, or failing, but his character seems exactly the same. He's sort of a fulcrum for all the other characters to develop around, but not very interesting in and of himself.

Softcookie · 17/04/2015 14:30

Oh controversial there, Margrethe!

:)

I agree. Those reviews I linked make that point in a very witty way.

Unfortunately having read ahead on the plot, I think that will change :(

I told dh yesterday that while I'm in lust with Ross, I'm in love with Demelza. She's the most wonderful character and Eleanor Tomlinson definitely delivering the best performance (second only to Aiden Turner's hair and pecs)

specialmagiclady · 17/04/2015 22:58

So my local paper had a piece about Series 2 being filmed locally and I said to my DS1 (10) that I might have to go and try to lick meet Mr Poldark.

"Oh Mum... He will be looking for someone way more sexy than you"

DS2 (8), bless him, rushed to my defence with this primeval roar and shove, and then kind of looked me up and down as if to say "well maybe he has a point".

squoosh · 17/04/2015 23:24

I think Ross seems a bit one dimensional too. I hope........and don't hate me here...............that he cheats on Demelza. Their set-up is a bit humdrum and was all settled far too early in the story. We need a bit of drama and friction and he's clearly still more than a bit smitten with Lizzie.

Softcookie · 18/04/2015 08:05

Ah ah specialmagiclady :) my dds (9 and 7) are thoroughly worried

"Mummy are you not in love with daddy anymore?!? Are you going to leave us for Poldark?!?"

"I wish course note darlings I love daddy in real life I just like Ross on the television!"

squoosh idk how I feel about that. As we've All said before I think we've been cheated out of a slower burn between Ross and Demelza and been left with a lot of gaps to fill (I may or may not have been reading Poldark fanfiction...) so I'd feel really betrayed if he cheated on her. But I get your point re story arc...

Ineedtimeoff · 19/04/2015 10:45

Happy Poldark day everyone. I too love Damelza and I agree that Poldark's character doesn't seem to be changing much whilst those around him are growing. However, I think that's all about to change!

I've been reading the Poldark books, I'm up to The Black Moon. Plenty of opportunity for Poldark to grow in the future!

Had an interesting discussion with DD the other day about mummy's new boyfriend Poldark - I said he was the most handsome man in the world, she disagreed saying two boys in her class are much more handsome!

I've really got lost in the world of Poldark, I think I might be a bit obsessed. Do I need help??

Ineedtimeoff · 19/04/2015 15:11

Ok, so I really am over invested in Poldark. Have been thinking about it though. Ross has changed hasn't he? When he returned from the war to find his father dead, farm and fortune in ruin and his love promised to someone else, Verity describes him as a 'broken man'. He said Demelza 'redeemed' him. I think she did and he did change. He changed from a dark brooding man into a respected squire. He has assumed the responsibility for his people whilst trying to rebuild his fortune, whilst still remaining dark and brooding thankfully

Unfortunately the plot is moving along so fast that there is no time to devote to the growth of characters and their relationships. I would really have liked to have seen more time devoted to Demelza and Ross' relationship.

Softcookie · 19/04/2015 20:54

Only 5 minutes to go!

AesopsMables · 19/04/2015 21:02

Glass of wine and nibbles ready...

TSSDNCOP · 19/04/2015 21:03

Upsetting scenes tonight!

puddingisgood · 19/04/2015 21:28

Did he just break her neck or strangle her or what?! (Eyes DS for talking to me at crucial moment.)

hideandseekpig · 19/04/2015 21:29

What happened what happened I missed that bit!

squoosh · 19/04/2015 21:30

I've no idea how she died!

puddingisgood · 19/04/2015 21:30

Ah, broken neck.

squoosh · 19/04/2015 21:30

Oh so a broken neck? Hmmmm, don't see how that happened.
