Two heartbreaking story lines in two weeks, not sure I can handle another one. Glad DH went to bed and never saw me sobbing, I agree though the little boy was gorgeous.

MarthasHarbour · 25/01/2015 22:26

Well I sobbed too. The story was a little close to home too Sad

On a lighter note I have suspected for agesthat Patsy is gay so yes Deirdre is definitely her 'lass' Smile

Mrsjayy · 25/01/2015 22:33

Oh dear just finished watching it was hard going eh . I think I knew she was gay I think something was hinted at when she first came into it. Trixie being all fianczilla was funny she was almost twitching

Mrsjayy · 25/01/2015 22:36

Mrsdv sister julien is all knowing she is like a jedi Grin

SoupDragon · 25/01/2015 22:36

I thought it was pretty much made clear she was gay when she arrived, although i can't remember what she said now.

Mrsjayy · 25/01/2015 22:38

I thought so to soupdragon I thought the viewer knew

JazzAnnNonMouse · 25/01/2015 22:40

I think I remember some hint too -perhaps it was about not getting married?

SoupDragon · 25/01/2015 22:41

Ddid she say something when in the bedroom with Trixie and the others on her first night?

Mrsjayy · 25/01/2015 22:44

Yeah was in the bedroom can't remember either must have been subtle but her having a girlfriend didn't surprise me

SoupDragon · 25/01/2015 22:45

I think it was a pointed comment about not having a boyfriend.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/01/2015 22:48

I think it was when she was teaching Tom how to dance and Trixie was all upset, because she thought she was trying to steal her.

I think Patsy said something about him not being her type, and lacking certain things and having too inch of certain things.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/01/2015 22:51

Yes, this series Trixie made a joke about a society for ornaments with all the girls on the shelf or something.

And Patsy wears manly pyjamas! (Obviously not a reliable indicator of sexuality Grin but next to the others' nighties and silk pyjamas they do stand out a bit!).

Mrsjayy · 25/01/2015 22:53

That was it they thought she was having a fling with Jenny boyfriend mystery solved

Mrsjayy · 25/01/2015 22:55

Was it tom the curate thought it was jenny lees boyfriend

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/01/2015 23:01

Pretty sure it was Tom - Fred was teaching them how to waltz, because he wanted to take Trixie to a dance, but was scared. He kept making up parishioners he had to sit with to get out of going!

Fontella · 25/01/2015 23:03

I just think this is such a class bit of telly.

So beautifully put together. When I watched last week's episode the quality just hit me, and again this week - the little touches, attention to detail, the characterisations and I love that little 'busy' segment that features in each episode with musical soundtrack, no dialogue but various 'activity' in the form of progressing the plot, even if it's just the girls cycling, tea pouring, washing on the line, a nun in prayer or whatever - just pure class from start to finish.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/01/2015 23:05

It was Tom, see here. I might have a read of all those summaries actually, just so I can remember what was going on!

dancestomyowntune · 25/01/2015 23:12

Currently laid up in hospital with preeclampsia myself and did fleetingly think of not watching tonight's episode, but I couldn't resist. Poor Abigail! I was so pleased when she had her little boy, but what mixed feelings for her. Such a sad thing to happen. The babies are always so cute though! That baby boy tonight was scrummy!

Pixel · 26/01/2015 00:46

I know it wasn't the done thing back then to let the mother see the stillborn baby, but after the parents mentioned they'd never even seen her you'd have thought someone would have said "Oh but she's at such and such funeral parlour" and they could have popped along if they'd wanted to. Especially with the thing with the booty, why couldn't they have put it on her themselves instead of Trixie doing it? Sad

ILovedYouYesterday · 26/01/2015 01:48

I agree, Fontella, it's just great.

I guessed, and told DH at the start of the programme, this weeks mum was having more than one because her bump was BIG!

I wish they had been able to hold their baby Sad

ShelaghTurner · 26/01/2015 04:24

Had to turn it off this week, I just found it too much. It was a bad weekend for me anyway as its anniversary of a miscarriage but it would have been a hard episode whatever. As soon as they left the baby on the draining board that kind of did it for me. Sad

ScrambledEggAndToast · 26/01/2015 07:15

Last night's was a bit silly I thought personally. I felt so sorry for the lady who had the stillbirth but when all of a sudden they said "ooh, there's another one in there" fgs Shock However, before that, when it was just the little girl who was stillborn it was very moving and I must admit to shedding a tear.

SoupDragon · 26/01/2015 07:21

The hints of a twin pregnancy were there though -the strange movements and change in them, the appearing and disappearing heartbeat. They didn't just pull a twin out of thin air so to speak. I bet it happened reasonably frequently before ultrasound scans.

The episode did highlight how things have changed wrt the treatment of stillbirths though. Quite horrible, especially taking the baby away in the midwives bag.

GratefulHead · 26/01/2015 07:55

Talking to older midwives when I was a midwife was interesting, they talked about undiagnosed twins and there were occasions where one would survive and the other one didnt. Fairly common in the days before ultrasounds.
One midwife and health visitor I know (in her 70s and still doing occasional shifts) worked with Jennifer Worth out of the building where they lived (not Nonnatus House which is a fictional name). I strongly suspect that the character of Trixie is based upon her as she sounds like she was a bit of a girl in her time.
In the books I think it was Cynthia who married a vicar...she became a Nun first then became disillusioned with religious life and left. She married a vicar later in life as I recall. She was said to suffer seriously from depression according to Jennifer Worth.

Mrsjayy · 26/01/2015 08:32

Jemmifer mixed up her characters didn't she ?to protect the nurses and nuns
