That's what I mean BMW6 - that such brutality and widespread hardship existed in anybody's living memory is incredible.

This week's was "based on" not "inspired by" and I remember the prostitute mum who'd asked to have her tubes tied but been refused and the brother looking after his siblings in the book. I think the mum was a victim as well really - she had no other way to support the children. In those days it was a man's responsibility to financially support their family. If she'd sought help the children would probably have been shipped off earlier.

Who is the new Midwife....I really recognise her.

BeyondDoesBootcamp · 20/01/2015 15:27

Fresh Meat! Thats where I know her! Many thanks.

LittleBearPad · 20/01/2015 15:43

Watched it with new DS snuggled on me and cried yet again at CTM. Horrible.

"I remember playing in air raid shelters and bomb sites."

When I was a child our garden had an air raid shelter at the end of it. My mum used to store her dahlia tubers in it over winter.

Tiredemma · 23/01/2015 18:04

WE had an air raid shelter in our back garden. I fell through the roof of it and now have a huge gash on me knee.

IronMaggie · 24/01/2015 01:11

I'm a bit late to this as I just caught it on iPlayer, but I was sitting in floods of tears after hearing about the fate of the children. The child migrant programme was an absolute abomination - no living soul, especially a child deserves that.

DMCWelshCakes · 25/01/2015 20:04

Just caught up with last week's. Horrific. Just horrific. And those children would be in their 50s - 60s now. It's all so recent.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 25/01/2015 21:00

Did anyone watch tonight?

Nativity3 · 25/01/2015 21:01

If anyone did can you summarise?

Selks · 25/01/2015 21:02

Yes, and blubbed solidly for the last half hour!

DMCWelshCakes · 25/01/2015 21:02

Oh dear god that was hard going.

Sad
shouldnthavesaid · 25/01/2015 21:03

Yes, sobbing here too, very emotional.

Is Patsy in a relationship with the SJA volunteer?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 25/01/2015 21:03

Yes. Oh it was hard to watch. All happy and sad mixed together!

Looking forward to the Rose Queen next week, I'm used to those at home Smile

Tallalime · 25/01/2015 21:03

Oh that was horribly sad :( Poor Abigail Sad

TengoSueno · 25/01/2015 21:04

It was really triggering tonight. That poor mum. Sad

smugmumofboys · 25/01/2015 21:04

I was feeling a bit fragile today and that has completely finished me off. Had to send DS2 for tissues. Sad

So sad :(

But the little baby boy was utterly gorgeous!

Jackieharris · 25/01/2015 21:15

That's the first time I watched it and as a newly pregnant woman I kind of wished I hadnt!

bambinibop · 25/01/2015 21:16

So sad tonight again

I agree the baby boy was absolutely gorgeous

JazzAnnNonMouse · 25/01/2015 22:20

It was really sad. Loved the booties though very sentimental.

Didn't get the significance of the pressed flower at the end?

I think patsy and St. John's ambulance woman are supposed to be together but secret. Weird to think how recent that relationship would've been v taboo.

At least there wasn't any neglect to children this week.

And much less racism than last time there was a black couple - is that true to the times progressing?
