did anyone else also read what actually happened to the actual nun who gave up the order which cmw takes the idea from?

Shock

she was so pleased to lose the habit she took up another habit, and got the clap! Thereby making her infertile Shock

Oh dear, this thread has taken a decidedly unsavoury turn (geddit)!! (she said looking over the top of her glasses and hoisting her bust).

ShelaghTurner · 26/02/2015 13:31

Sorry no chutney but plenty of sauce...

Grin

Is that true Horace? I read that she married a vicar and that they both suffered from depression at various times throughout their life. She also remained very close to Jennifer Worth and was Godmother to one of her daughters.

Behindthepaintedgarden · 26/02/2015 13:34

Aaaagh Blush I thought you were talking about Cynthia (please tell me she didn't get the clap Shock

Weebirdie · 26/02/2015 13:35

I read the book when it first came out, way before it was even considered as a tv series, and I can't recall anything about 'the clap'.

HoraceCope · 26/02/2015 14:05

i did read this www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2013/jul/27/nun-who-became-a-mum and remembered it wrongy.
sorry Thanks

Weebirdie · 26/02/2015 14:27

Thats ok Smile

Thank you for the link to another interesting story.

ppeatfruit · 26/02/2015 14:27

Thanks for that Horace it was extremely interesting.

Clockingoff · 26/02/2015 14:29

Goodness. She certainly went from one extreme to another. I wonder why she ever ever became a nun in the first place. She admits, in another article, that she was a wild child who slept with her boyfriend when that was not the norm for teenagers, and that she became quite promiscuous after leaving the convent.
I can understand someone realising that the religious life was not for them and leaving the convent. But going so much to the other extreme is a bit odd.

Weebirdie · 26/02/2015 14:55

A second cousin of mine became a nun/midwife and left the convent in the early 70's. She then worked in our local hospital for a few years before marrying an Egyptian plastic surgeon and going off to live in Egypt.

She kind of made up for lost time between leaving the convent and meeting him if family folklore is to be believed.

Another second cousin who was defined for the convent and only delayed entering the convent so she could care for her dad at home, he was very unwell, had a whirlwind roman after he died and ended up having a shotgun wedding with in very short space of time. Grin

ppeatfruit · 26/02/2015 16:06

No Clockingoff I reckon it's psychologically correct because it's from one extreme to another; if you have an extreme personality. Being a nun is a bit extreme isn't it? Especially in a closed convent. But they still take celibacy vows even in 'open' convents.

ShelaghTurner · 26/02/2015 21:39

The woman in the article that Horace linked to wrote a book which I've just started reading. 'Kicking the Habit' 46p on the kindle today if anyone's interested...

AnneEyhtMeyer · 27/02/2015 23:31

Oh thanks Shelagh - just downloaded that to my Kindle.

Lyinginwait888 · 28/02/2015 17:13

I was going to download it but it looks really depressing. Along with all the other recommendations that Amazon suggests. Is it any good?

Call the midwife (for me) had enough brightness to make it enjoyable.

DameEdnasBridesmaid · 01/03/2015 20:08

OMG they're going to get mixed up!

dajmibuzi · 01/03/2015 20:11

Those babies are mixed up for sure

EnlightenedOwl · 01/03/2015 20:15

She's confused the two babies hasn't she?

Clawdy · 01/03/2015 20:21

What a very silly storyline,so predictable from the second she picked them up.

306235388 · 01/03/2015 20:26

This is going to be a repeat of the Ronnie and Kat storyline from EE isn't it?

AnneEyhtMeyer · 01/03/2015 20:26

Fred is daft.

The baby storyline is ridiculous.

EnlightenedOwl · 01/03/2015 20:33

uh oh penny dropped

dajmibuzi · 01/03/2015 20:37

Sensitively put about the cancer Doc.

Not.

dajmibuzi · 01/03/2015 20:52

nice one Minty.

iklboo · 01/03/2015 20:56

Watching on 'time slip'. What's that coming over the hill - is it the plot line, is it the plot line???

Surely NOT? Hmm
