BOFster: " I'm a bit
at the incredibly progressive safe-sex radical nunning going on."
Me too. It's a bit ridiculous, all these nuns and doctors with their progressive views on condoms and homosexuality. Also, it really jarred with me at one point when one of the midwives (can't recall who) referred to "the baby's gender" rather than "the baby's sex". It's just not a word they'd have used in 1960.
Trixie and the curate are completely unsuited. He needs someone who likes making jam and making small talk with parishioners, she needs someone who has plenty of money and can keep her in nice outfits and haircuts.
A side note: I have just finished reading Letters to the Midwife, a collection of letters that people wrote to Jennifer Worth after the books were published. Quite a good read, with an intro by her husband and daughters. There are also a couple of pics of the real life Cynthia and Sister Julienne.
