Notebooks at the ready Grin We should have enough information at the end of the first episode to start cooking up some slightly implausible theories.

OP posts:
Nerf · 05/01/2015 21:40

Why would you want someone who hasn't practised in three years?

BOFster · 05/01/2015 21:41

It's the CPS that engages the prosecution barrister, isn't it? Not the victim's family.

AgathaF · 05/01/2015 21:42

Didn't expect to be hooked this quickly.

marne2 · 05/01/2015 21:43

I watched the first series and I'm still confused Grin

LifeOfBriony · 05/01/2015 21:43

I can't remember what Sandbrook was about??

Blu · 05/01/2015 21:43

Bloody ad breaks!

springlamb · 05/01/2015 21:44

DT took the blame for the last case collapsing, it was the fault of the female DS on the case who happened to be his wife.
It's all coming back now...

Nearasdammit · 05/01/2015 21:44

Ooh it's very good!

BOFster · 05/01/2015 21:45

So, this is going to be about DT's failed case he is racked with guilt about? And Claire was a witness who is terrified because the guilty man went free?

Jossysgiants · 05/01/2015 21:46

I don't understand why the family need a barrister either Bof
Did we ever find out at the end of the last one what is wrong with David Tennant?
It is very intriguing so far. I felt like there was a strange undercurrent between the Vicar and Joe.
Almost takes the pain out of back to work having Broadchurch back!

BOFster · 05/01/2015 21:46

A-ha, now it all becomes clear...

BOFster · 05/01/2015 21:47

His health is dodgy due to stress, I think. And guilt at failing Claire.

AWholeLottaNosy · 05/01/2015 21:49

Jesus wept! Do the writers know nothing about how the criminal justice system works? The victim's family have no rights to choose a Prosecution barrister. The scenes of them on the beach begging her to tske the case are ludicrous! This series is wildly over dramatic IMO. Shame...

BOFster · 05/01/2015 21:51

Danny's dad is gaming with Olivia Coleman's estranged son, who was pals with Danny.

LifeOfBriony · 05/01/2015 21:52

Oh, I see... Kind of.

AWholeLottaNosy · 05/01/2015 21:52

This is really pissing me off, I used to work for the witness service and victims could never understand why they didn't have their own lawyer. This isn't the American system, a case is prosecuted on behalf of the state NOT the victims. Hate TV shows that misrepresent this as it gives victims of crime a wrong impression of what happens and only adds to their sense of injustice.

Nerf · 05/01/2015 21:53

Oooh look, the two opposing barristers on the beach. I sense a third series coming up with a mistrial because they are found to have colluded Grin

BOFster · 05/01/2015 21:53

Can barristers pick their cases if they are prosecuting? Or defend in, come to that?

LifeOfBriony · 05/01/2015 21:54

Are Mark and Danny's son in the caravan where Pauline Quirke's character lived?

BOFster · 05/01/2015 21:55

I thought it was basically a queue system?

AWholeLottaNosy · 05/01/2015 21:56

ALSO a Prosecution barrister would NOT be able to visit a victim's family in their home! FFS. I don't think I will be able to watch this. I was so looking forward to it as well. Sad

BOFster · 05/01/2015 21:56

I call bullshit on the exhumation too.

BOFster · 05/01/2015 21:58

Danny's dad is a fucking liability too. And he was a weasel in The Honorable Woman as well.

LifeOfBriony · 05/01/2015 21:59

Surely they would tell the family if they were going to exhume Danny's body??

AWholeLottaNosy · 05/01/2015 21:59

Prosecution barristers are employed by the Crown Prosecution Service ( not victims) and are not allowed to meet with victims or witnesses before trial. It's a totally different system to the USA.
