That's what i thought vag. But as muddha said, maybe the only way they feel he can leave the family business is to move away completely.

LoisDrankMyTableDecoration · 21/01/2015 10:07

Xpost good on them for travelling about, not surprised they didn't move.

askyfullofstars · 21/01/2015 10:14

lois I dont think its that bad in the UK, but I suppose Im generally happy with my life choices/situation. I have a half decent career, a good dh and a work-life balance. Sometimes, I feel a bit exhausted with some work pressures, but overall its not so bad. I suppose if you aren't lucky enough to have those things, then the idea of upping and changing everything, to fix one thing and start over is more appealing.
I've considered moving to Oz a few times (Ive been and have family there), but I know DH would really struggle with it so we've agreed to re-visit it in a few years.

LoisDrankMyTableDecoration · 21/01/2015 10:21

Take your Dh on the show! I would love to do a family gap year, I saw a documentary about it, looked amazing and an alternative to a permanent move. Then I worked out the costs....another dream dead!

LegsOfSteel · 21/01/2015 11:29

Didn't watch this one that closely. Why did they go to the big expensive city? They could have been shown a lot nicer houses in the smaller, cheaper town/city.
The lifestyle day appeared to be at a farm visit! Why go to a farm when they must spend loads of time at one back home.

LoisDrankMyTableDecoration · 21/01/2015 13:21

legs Didn't catch why either, who knows? Think they make it up as they go along Grin

Hillingdon · 21/01/2015 19:49

I think this one is a waste of time, there is no way they are going with family ties and I have never met a Welsh person who doesn't LOVE living in Wales.

EveDallasRetd · 22/01/2015 06:59

DH is Welsh and wouldn't live back in Wales if you paid him Smile

DH and I were talking about this afterwards; we think it was a complete set-up on behalf of the wife, as a way to push her FIL into treating his son better.

Listening to their finances, it seemed that the DH was working 70 hours a week for minimum wage or less. We reckon that the NZ thing was never going to happen, but was a "Either you lower his hours/pay a decent wage, or we are going to go as far away from you as possible, your choice"

...and it seems to have worked. Well done her Grin

dillite · 22/01/2015 09:34

How much would today's husband need to earn in order to be able to buy a house that they want there? Surely a p/t job wouldn't even touch it?

ClaimedByMe · 22/01/2015 09:36

They must have savings or something...

MistyMeena · 22/01/2015 09:37

I feel a bit sorry for him..a lot of pressure on him work wise

dontmixthecolours · 22/01/2015 09:39

What will happen if they get there and her health doesn't improve? It's a big of a gamble!

dontmixthecolours · 22/01/2015 09:39

Bit

dillite · 22/01/2015 09:40

I was just about to ask that bit. They would need to get outside help in probably.

dillite · 22/01/2015 09:42

Those giant pencils look like they would be great for impaling.

iklboo · 22/01/2015 09:43

Missed the beginning - what are the lady's health problems?

dontmixthecolours · 22/01/2015 09:44

She has chronic fatigue syndrome and seems to think she'll be cured if they move

forago · 22/01/2015 09:45

why do they always go to Adelaide in this program? doesn't anyone ever go to Melbourne or Sidney? Is Adelaide cheaper?

dillite · 22/01/2015 09:47

You can't have a sausage on a slice of bread in the UK?

dillite · 22/01/2015 09:48

So is their house nice then?

iklboo · 22/01/2015 09:49

Oh no. Will they let her emigrate with health concerns? Sorry, not sure what the restrictions are.

Can't help thinking it's just the excitement of the break & change of scenery that's lifting her mood and making her feel better at the time they filmed this - rather than Oz being a 'miracle cure' IYSWIM.

Not suggesting her condition is not physical & real. I know someone with CFS and she says a holiday and break from routine always makes her feel better in the short term.

ShatnersBassoon · 22/01/2015 09:50

Baby sweetcorn is expensive. I'm out.

dillite · 22/01/2015 09:50

Am I the only one who thinks that the house they are staying in looks like a nursing home?

forago · 22/01/2015 09:51

another massively unrealistic woman.

and where is the research that sunshine improves CFS? if she's had it for 6 years I'd have thought there were underlying issues (had it for a year in my twenties)

dontmixthecolours · 22/01/2015 09:51

I totally agree. It's a long way to go for it not to cure her. And presumably they will have no support. I'm interested to see what their families say
