The stuff from the Mail is in the spoiler-friendly thread. But it's all speculation really.

There's nothing there that hasn't been discussed here (and on Digital Spy, and probably all over the place).

Wellthatsit · 13/12/2014 13:29

Exactly Auntiestella. Just thought it was funny how many of the mumsnet theories were in it.

Hoho - Smile

Indianashopgirl · 13/12/2014 13:32

Oops my comment re Emily's 'maybe bump' . The scene was 2009 not 2006.

Yeh these pesky journalists .. Stealing all our ideas! ;)

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/12/2014 14:41

Could the tablets be to start off an abortion in early days? Tho then Emily wouodnt have a bump tho saying that I didn't notice it till mn said it

AuntieStella · 13/12/2014 15:02

'Could the tablets be to start off an abortion in early days?'

To take the medication at home, you'd have to be very early days indeed (and I think that would mean pre-bump) and she looked completely flat-tummied in the scenes immediate following. I think it was fluke, left in to imply possibilities and build mood. What I noticed was that Emily was shovelling pills, whilst Tony was downing bottle after bottle (immediately following scene was of him on sofa with an empty spirits bottle by him). Both medicating their way through that bit.

Tony stayed on in 2009. I think there may be a little more we need to know about events then.

Indianashopgirl · 13/12/2014 15:18

AuntieStella- you're right about Emily's 'bump' going in the next scene or shot. As you say maybe it was a camera angle that made her look like she had a tummy & they left it in deliberately or it was something that we - the eagle eyed - have jumped on which they didn't even notice?
But she did start to throw tablets away - perhaps she had just got to a point where she needed or wanted to move on?

We are thankfully getting to a point for The Final Countdown!

zzzant · 13/12/2014 15:55

Another theory.
Ollie ran off on his own and saw another child being chased by the pedophile ring through the woods. Ollie was found by the pedophiles (maybe Alain) and taken back to the house.
The blood could be from the kid they were chasing. They needed to do something with Ollie because he was a witness so they either killed him in the basement (more blood) or they shipped him off to a child sex ring.

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/12/2014 16:04

If this doesn't get resolved on Tuesday there will be a riot

So

Ollie is alive - where has he been

Ollie is dead - who killed him ??

and why did they take him in either of the above

Moln · 13/12/2014 16:46

I think she threw away the tablets after Tony's snide comments about her being medicated (or whatever he said) and not considering his whiskey bottle and non persribed coper

FayeFruitLoop · 13/12/2014 19:47

Right my theory now...

Monique is the neice of the mayor, who is also the daughter of Alan and Sylvie.

They abducted Ollie for her and she's been raising him. They faked his death in the house in the hope that if anyone found out they would believe Alan/sylvie killed him but he's been living just fine ever since right in CDB.

Monique wanted another child - so slept with Tony, as she wanted a blood sibling to Ollie.

C'mon people - what are the holes in this theory?

BOFster · 13/12/2014 19:54

I like that, Faye. A bit left-field Xmas Grin.

susiedaisy · 13/12/2014 20:31

Why would Monique steal Ollie if she can have children naturally by sleeping with tony. Wouldn't she would just slept with a man and have a child??

atoughyear · 13/12/2014 20:33

Very interesting. I've been pondering this and I really think Mark is in on this and that James was the intended victim. How weird is it that he was there with his son when Ollie was abducted. It's a case of mistaken identity. I still maintain that Mark switched Malik's evidence hence why Mark is in some way culpable.

ArsenicStew · 13/12/2014 21:32

Monique is the neice of the mayor, who is also the daughter of Alan and Sylvie.

Yes! So obvious now it's pointed out

Flibbertyjibbet · 14/12/2014 12:33

I am wondering if we are over thinking the James thing. He was there on holiday with his dad. This introduced us to coppers son and we all understood who the dark haired teenager was later, and why Emily settled for mark when her marriage failed.
Mark looks shifty because it was love at first sight for him but he can't do anything about it cos married woman/victim/un professional. He tries to control her cos he knows he isn't with him for the right reasons and now feels relieved that he has 'let her go' and can see her properly moving on from the tragedy.
I am hoping Tues ep will start back at 2006 and take us through it all from different angles.
or, it may be just more of the 'famous5 ' type stuff that we started to see at the very end of ep 7 at the train station. All coming together to find the baddies.
If it's a broadchurch ending I will throw my knitting in the fire... ie someone like the cleaner at the Eden or the barman at the pool Grin

kellohitty · 14/12/2014 12:46

Yes Flibberty i almost think whatever the ending is now i won't be satisfied!

Fiderer · 14/12/2014 12:54

Broadchurch - there was an article about the US re-make where they changed the ending slightly.

Here in case anyone plans on watching it and doesn't want to know.#

I couldn't cope with DT doing an American accent.

anonacfr · 14/12/2014 15:31

Ok I am v late on this thread but what I want to know is why Malik kept the medal and didn't tell anyone about it.
I thought he was trying to make a name for himself with the case. Wouldn't it make more sense to use exclusive evidence at the time of the kidnapping when the public is invested in the case rather than wait years until people have forgotten all about little Ollie?

I know people have said they hope this 'doesn't turn out to be another Amber' but I thought Amber was very realistic. In most cases the children are never found and families never find out what happened to them.

The Missing started off really well but has turned rather soap-ey. If Mark tony or Baptiste are involved it would be beyond ridiculous.

Fiderer · 14/12/2014 15:46

I wondered that. Maybe he waited till the 7/8 years were up and Ian Garrett was legally declared dead.
Still think it's weak though.

AuntieStella · 14/12/2014 15:55

The other implausible bit on the tale of the sobriety medal is how Mark managed to unearth a cash transaction receipt/report for a forensic test when he didn't even know what the item was (so could not have known if there was anything to test) or even that it existed until a day or few before the confrontation.

Huge amount of work on a very speculative basis, and (I assume) not done officially on police channels as Mark offered a highly dodgy deal to Suri to force co-operation.

Mark and Baptiste are both behaving as 'bad cops' in terms of browbeating/blackmailing and suppressing evidence when it suits them.

Indianashopgirl · 14/12/2014 16:24

I suppose we have to suspend all belief to a degree. There was all that forensic evidence on the boat for one. The door ( or whatever it's called on a boat) had been kicked in suggesting a forced entry and I doubt even Sieg with his Cleaning company could have cleaned up the evidence like Tony is supposed to have done. I've allowed myself to gloss over that. Unless it was Baptiste guessing what had happened & chose to ignore it. But that's unlikely back then before Shirt - gate!

Yes but the Malik reveal changes the whole course of the case and is the big cliffhanger prior to the last episode. It's very random.

Malik is presented throughout the series as the amoral 'typical' tabloid journo who listens repeatedly breaks the law and describes Ollie's disappearance as the best day of his life. When he gets crucial evidence he keeps it..... and just stashes it? To what purpose?

Also isn't it horrible that I find Tony deeply unsympathetic? He's horribly entitled and spoilt IMO. Of course he's going through an unimaginably horrible situation but he's so rude to people who go beyond the line of duty and out of their way to help him. It drives me nuts.
