just read this and it gave me a good laugh, TG talking about OG's young and diverse female audience. I have just checked the voting and there is less than 0.7% in it between Sherlock and OG. I hope the link works as I haven't done one before. CJ is such a good ICT teacher!

cjwoofwoof · 09/12/2014 18:30

Nice one Galaxy just read the RT interview with TG. He's right, nobody ever asks what we the viewers want, but maybe, just maybe someone up high at the BBC will take note of how close the voting is getting ang give us another series of OG, per-lease!!

Nickel45 · 09/12/2014 18:33

That's a good article. Are all the Facebook lot young? mind you, we're all quite young, aren't we Smile. Did whoever tweeted TG with SPOs zombies ever hear anything back? TG
should have a look on here, it's much more interesting and diverse than being bombarded about a second series (I'm assuming they are still doing that?)?!

icemist · 09/12/2014 18:42

Had just seen that on Twitter. Great interview. I've been voting on/off all day. I'm not having the anon group taking all the credit for getting it this far though Wink

Just having about 20 mins to catch up on what I might have missed this afternoon whilst the tea finishes cooking, then back to boring work/charity stuff for most of the evening. Out tomorrow at a Christmas market so if I finish early tonight I want to go back and edit my bit of our latest fanfiction. I always like doing this charity stuff close to Christmas as a rule and daren't admit to anyone that CJ and the MN thread has taken over most of my spare time.

I lived in France for quite a while as a second year student. I could definitely imagine having long and involved conversations with CJ in French!

Glad that the day went well for apsara and pixie.

Back later if I can.

Richtea19 · 09/12/2014 18:57

Pixie glad your move went well and you are safe and sound, and warm and Aspara first day done and you survived.

CJ and DoE! he would have to wear a lumberjack shirt most definatley! DS1 has done first bit and came back very stinky and filthy....

Richtea19 · 09/12/2014 19:03

Thanks Galaxy for that RT link. Young and diverse, is that us????

orphan · 09/12/2014 19:05

It was freezing for one of my son's DofE expeditions. He had to huddle up very close to his other mates in the tent to conserve body heat. I'd be in CJ's sleeping bag with him before he'd had chance to zip it up!

Nickel45 · 09/12/2014 19:05

We're definitely young and diverse ... Although maybe not in the way TG meant it?!?

elsie3g · 09/12/2014 19:11

Glad all went well today for apsara and pixie.

Just a thought on the RT voting - if you've already voted on your home computers/laptops, but also have a smart phone and a 3g connection try voting again via that. If you access your wifi when at home you'll need to disable your phone's connection to that first (then connect back up once you've voted). Sounds very techy, but is quite simple to do in practice. If you've got an iphone it's just under settings.

That way if they're tracking votes by IP address we can avoid that barrier and add a few more to the tally.

Richtea19 · 09/12/2014 19:14

Thanks Elsie, this thread is so much more than OG, it's IT skills as well. I will give it a go.

Ilovelblue · 09/12/2014 19:15

Oh just before I go to ground again, I've voted tonight (again) for OG on the Radio Times whatsit. OG is 48.17% and Sherlock is 51.83% currently.

cjwoofwoof · 09/12/2014 19:21

Reckon those Cumberbitches are voting en masse and pushing us Aldwitches off the running Hmm

firegirl · 09/12/2014 19:26

So if you vote repeatedly on the same device using same Internet provider they only count the one vote? Maybe that explains why it kept dropping despite my repeated voting just now...

elsie3g · 09/12/2014 19:45

firegirl yep, thats it

SPOfficer · 09/12/2014 19:46

Ok just voted through wifi and 3G. First time I have ever voted for any programme on any poll. Another new experience. Am I now an Aldwizard?

threadNneedle · 09/12/2014 19:57

Just caught an interesting radio programme about the work of medics in the Afgan conflict and the 'platinum 10 minutes' Molly referred to in her training. Kept expecting her to be interviewed!

Rhubarb01 · 09/12/2014 20:05

As someone who did DofE in my younger days I have to reflect that CJ must be a very appreciative sort of man. Because my memories of lugging heavy rucksacks up and down highest mountains in the land are that it turns you into a sweating, dishevelled mess and if CJ can still fancy Molly after she's done all that he's definitely a keeper!

cherin · 09/12/2014 20:18

Pray, what is DofE for the non initiated??
I saw the votes before falling asleep on the floor with toddler, and the gap was opening up. Cumberbitches may not have kids to put to sleep (I mean, to bed!). But we have stamina and can still outnumber them if we stay focused...

cjwoofwoof · 09/12/2014 20:20

Well I still fancied the pants off CJ despite his Afghan grime and too much trouser in the paddling pool scene...does that make me a madwoman keeper too?

Rhubarb01 · 09/12/2014 20:25

Don't want to start another monologue here but I just read the Tony Grounds article. I can't help thinking he is desperate to do another series but the BBC are undecided. I would suggest that the reference to "young diverse female audience" is to persuade them that they are succeeding with their policy of trying to reach out to as diverse an audience as possible. I'm sure he must realise that there is a slightly older audience out there who like it too - after all he is one of them! However, its politically better to say you're reaching out to the young ones. The BBC does have a bit of a traditional image and unlike the other broadcasters has certain conditions under which it operates due to public money plus it doesn't have a bottomless pit of money it can top up with advertising. Mind you, there are other options. After all, Ripper Street was saved by Amazon Prime when the BBC said it wouldn't fund a third series and apparently the BBC will be airing it next year. So all is not lost, yet! Just need to beat Sherlock! Grrr!

Rhubarb01 · 09/12/2014 20:29

Cherin its the Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme for young people aged 13 - 25. There are three levels, Bronze, Silver and Gold and you have to complete a series of skills and physical challenges aimed to help you find new interests and skills and develop as a person. It includes an expedition section which can be done on foot, bike, canoe, horses etc. Depending on the level you have to cover increasingly longer distances over a longer period of time (usually 2, 3 or 4 days). You do get tired!

icemist · 09/12/2014 20:33

The 18-25 age group were the target audience... but I think it appealed to a whole range of ages, people at different stages of their life and that is pretty much ignored.

elsie3g · 09/12/2014 20:46

Rhubarb I agree, TG looks to be making a case in what he says, stressing the key demographic (that the BBC obviously hoped to hit) has been affected by the programme (ties up with that Radio1 interview - they were target audience), when in reality it's broader than that.

It's silly really that the BBC pays little attention to the true audience and the effect that it's had on so many people of various ages (and genders, SPO!) outside of what they were originally aiming at. They need to evaluate a programme after it airs and react based on the reaction of the viewers. I'm a Ripper Street fan and was really annoyed when they decided not to recommission and have subscribed to Amazon as a consequence.

It's funny actually, I think it's the same across all areas of commissioning. I've got a friend in the music bizz who complains that regardless of whether you're liked by the audience, the bods in charge have set ideas about what is and what should be popular and pushes the zeitgeist as the 'in' thing (often based on the personal taste of the commissioner). It's often about what seen to be 'cool', rather than what's liked by the masses.

In summary.....the BBC should read this and the previous threads and take stock!

elsie3g · 09/12/2014 20:47
