Why do so many US series get cancelled and leave us dangling?

Where has Once Upon A Time Gone?
Thirteenth floor cancelled.
Dracula cancelled
Penny dreadful cancelled.
Fast forward (which was a brilliant idea and well acted)

I am sure there are tons more. I now rarely bother with US series!

I think they are so keyed into making money they stretch out a good idea forever in case it's a hit and when it's not as popular as it should be they cancel. Much better idea to compress the idea into a brief series (note Sherlock) rather the this TV teasing.

The Sally Field 3 minute round up was a voiceover IIRC. It was the last episode I saw and it featured the wedding of the daughter to the yummy lush frenchman.

I found a brilliant US series on You Tube and it was about a girl who had grown up in foster care and wanted to become an independent minor so went to court. Only she had to find her birth parents first and they turned out to be high school sweethearts but the Father knew nothing about the child.

The mother was a radio host if that helps....

Does this ring a bell with anyone as I did not save it as a bookmark and now cannot find it again...

All I could remember was the dad called Blaze, I had to google so it didn't drive me mad all night!
Think it ran for a couple of seasons.

What gets me is that these series cut off in their prime, aren't usually rubbish TV. Alcatraz and fast forward were brilliant and engrossing.

I was off sick and unable to move from my sofa for about 10 days last year. I watched the whole of Life Unexpected back-to-back on Netflix. Excellent soapy trash.

Did anyone watch Monday Mornings? Medical drama - really enjoyed it but got cancelled after one season. Gutted about Dallas too!

I don't think it's been cancelled, but this looks like a good place to ask if anyone knows when the next bit of Mad Men is coming on ?

DH and I have been harping on for agrees about how cross we were that we bothered to get into Flash Forward and then the bastards cancelled it (leaving us on a cliff hanger). It was a great concept - does anyone know if the book takes the story any further?

No idea re flashforward and the book. I'll have a look on amazon.

I've looked on amazon and the book is very sci fi, intricate, thought provoking etc. this is what a reviewer put though

Don't buy the book if, like me, you want to find out how the tv series is going to end. Do buy it if you want to exercise your grey cells on some of the biggest questions we can ask about life's purpose

I loved Alcatraz and Revolution and was really disappointed when they were cancelled.

The book is great but the tv show really only took the concept rather than the story, iykwim.

I liked The Doll House, Brothers and Sisters and Roswell
