Why do so many US series get cancelled and leave us dangling?

Where has Once Upon A Time Gone?
Thirteenth floor cancelled.
Dracula cancelled
Penny dreadful cancelled.
Fast forward (which was a brilliant idea and well acted)

I am sure there are tons more. I now rarely bother with US series!

I think they are so keyed into making money they stretch out a good idea forever in case it's a hit and when it's not as popular as it should be they cancel. Much better idea to compress the idea into a brief series (note Sherlock) rather the this TV teasing.

RaRa I think that me and you were the only two people on the planet that enjoyed PanAm Grin

Everyone else I knew openly mocked it!

Mampere · 01/11/2014 21:50

Under the Dome

what happened to that!?

Mampere · 01/11/2014 21:50

i liked pan am!

WittyUsername102 · 01/11/2014 21:50

Who created lost that also created flashforward?

Once is still on, I'm really liking this season.

PoppyAmex · 01/11/2014 21:50

I think soon we won't have to worry too much about this, as more series are being picked up by streaming services who are producing the next seasons.

Netflix did it with "The Killing" for instance.

Lolly86 · 01/11/2014 21:51

Pushing Daisies... I loved that :-(

PoppyAmex · 01/11/2014 21:52

Percy I was watching King too; I really loved her off beat sense of humour and it was great to see a strong, smart female character.

iklboo · 01/11/2014 21:52

Almost Human was so good.
Firefly being cancelled was criminal!

Brightermornings · 01/11/2014 21:52

Rescue Me disappeared, I loved it. Dirty Sexy Money another one.

PercyHorse · 01/11/2014 22:01

That's one of the things I liked about it Poppy.

dalekanium · 01/11/2014 22:02

Grrr I really wanted to see flash forward to its conclusion.

I think it was a book

rookiemater · 01/11/2014 22:04

I must admit I'm glad that Penny Dreadful might be cancelled - it was such utter drivel, but Eva green was so mesmerising that I couldn't stop watching it.
Another one I loved which was cancelled was Defying Gravity although DH ( who did a Physics agree ) complained about the title. It was completely bonkers and I could have done with the explanations in the second series.

Carnivale was excellent
Outcasts also good but sci-fi so didn't get huge audience

Travelledtheworld · 01/11/2014 22:38

If the show gets poor ratings then the American TV networks can't sell the advertising slots and the show gets pulled.
Adverts every 8 minutes on US TV.

Bunbaker · 01/11/2014 22:39

Invasion 2005 - 2006

What about series that start on terrestrial TV then move to Sky?

We used to watch Lost, but stopped because we don't have Sky and have no intention of getting it.

tuckingfits · 01/11/2014 22:44

My So-Called Life. Approximately 1995... Still gutted that it only got one season.

RubyRue791 · 01/11/2014 22:49

Under the Dome is coming back next year for a third season
