Don't hold back, love Grin

GrouchyKiwi · 20/11/2014 19:56

The yellow is nice. Cosy.

GrouchyKiwi · 20/11/2014 19:57

Not a surprise there.

BOFster · 20/11/2014 19:57

Aw, poor Charlotte. It was because she didn't finish though.

bambinibop · 20/11/2014 19:58

Yes you do need to finish it and what she did do wasn't really mind blowing

Cocolepew · 20/11/2014 20:25

Yes! Thank you.

I think its not totally fair in the, 'designers'. If the woman didnt like blue why didnt she say that in the brief? Its too late to change thinks if they have spent all their money already. They should be allowed to meet them first.

I wasn't sorry to see Charlotte go, I didn't think she had much of a clue at all and was much more interested in following her own ideas than pleasing the client. I haven't forgiven her for ripping out that original panelling.

It does show up a very essential problem with the programme though. A real designer would have been aware of the time constraints re the painting and also things like the weight distribution problem or the silly piddly little ceiling light that was far too small.

Next one is Tuesday, a 1960s complex.

Icimoi · 21/11/2014 13:04

Surely they should be penalised more for ignoring the brief? I hate things like pointless louvre doors that don't open, and the way he painted them made them even worse.

What irritates me more about these things is the time constraint. I get it that they need some sort of time limit to make it fair, but it should be a realistic time - they seem however to make the time too short deliberately so as to rack up the tension. In real life you would never let a designer loose on your precious abode on that basis.

MiscellaneousAssortment · 21/11/2014 13:41

Oh I agree, this genre of programs seems fixed in the 'let's do it super fast or it will be booooooooorrrrring' rule.

But all you end up with is half finished dross which is a visual facsimile of an actual proper object.

People don't live well in a show room, or a theatre prop room, or a dolls house.

I want to watch people making real spaces for real people to live in.

It feels such a waste of their skills and of materials, time and money. At the risk of sounding very soap-boxy, it's a sign of our disgusting acceptance of disposable wasteful everything. Bleugh.

Pinkwillow · 21/11/2014 21:35

When is a houseboat not a houseboat? When it don't float Hmm

WerewolfBarMitzvah · 21/11/2014 22:16

Tell me stencilled swags aren't making a comeback? ?!
I feel the standard of finish in the last few eps has been rubbish - obviously they are trying to get a lot done but it looks so rushed. And that's on tv, imagine in rl.

catwithflowers · 25/11/2014 05:49

Those louvre doors were hideous. I'm enjoying this but more in a 'glad they aren't in my house' kind of way. I really wish they would drop the stupid 'upcycling' project. It's just becoming silly (all those rope things would go straight in the bin, surely?)

FenellaBeauregard · 25/11/2014 06:07

Anyone else feel the judges don't have anything original to say?

If the designer ignores the homeowner then they are criticised for not fulfilling the client's brief.
If they do listen to the homeowner and change things then they are 'compromising' their design!

They can't win Smile

I thought Charlotte's was a bit meh. I loved her sketches but the actual finish was a bit dull.

Agree with everyone, the louvres were vile but I did like his use of colour in that one.

enriquetheringbearinglizard · 25/11/2014 12:12

I liked the place with the louvres best of all Blush Not sure I'd have wanted them but I've seen dafter ideas on this programme. I liked the layout of the furniture and the colours he used. I also thought he made the best use of the rope considering that he had to do something with it.

Back on tonight with the 60s housing complex in Surrey.

Here we go…

Where are these buildings I missed the beginning?

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 25/11/2014 19:38

Yep, I've only just tuned in too so I've missed the mood boards etc.

Hate that clashing orange and raspberry, so far.

GrouchyKiwi · 25/11/2014 19:38

They have some interesting features but I missed where they are too.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 25/11/2014 19:39

devilish, looks like Surrey from Enrique's post above

BOFster · 25/11/2014 19:39

These houses are fantastic. I missed where they are too.

BOFster · 25/11/2014 19:40

And the architect was only 24! Very unusual to see your design backed with the money to actually get it built at that age.

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 25/11/2014 19:41

According to google, it's Frimley

BOFster · 25/11/2014 19:41

Martin looks on the verge of tears this episode.

DevilishIndeed · 25/11/2014 19:41

Oops missed that post sorry ! Thanks!

SqueezyCheeseWeasel · 25/11/2014 19:42

Eye catching but a bit municipal multistorey for me.
