A new thread for all things Our Girl as we have already filled up another thread discussing everything to do with the show.

SPofficer that's very well argued analysis Smile.

PassTheCremeEggs · 01/11/2014 09:17

Snumpy you probably can't find it yourself because the author has changed the rating to 'M' - you need to change the search filter to include all ratings as they are defaulted to exclude M which are for 'mature' audiences!

PassTheCremeEggs · 01/11/2014 09:21

SP - very interesting post. Lots of food for thought and you're spot on I think.

Rhubarb01 · 01/11/2014 11:50

From the sublime to the ridiculous now. A frivolous question. What would the characters give each other for Christmas?

I bet a lifetime supply of coco pops is on the list somewhere!

BrodiesBabe · 01/11/2014 12:18

SPOfficer - I love your analysis. It's all about the journey the characters go on, and change is inevitable on a character's journey. A* and ten gold stars. Smile

Hmm, Rhubarb, what would they give for Christmas?

He'd give her a season ticket to West Ham, to show her how much he loves her and wants to please her. She'd give him a packet of hydrocolloid dressing for his blisters ... (had to look that up!) ... and some Rosabaya pods!

cherin · 01/11/2014 13:05

If I was him, I'd whisk her away for a weekend in Paris. Bet she's never used her passport besides Afghanistan. And if she liked Afghanistan, she'd shitting love Paris!
;-)
Her to him- no idea. But for the coffee pods/coco pops, already mentioned.

ihearttc · 01/11/2014 13:25

The romantic part of me thinks Molly would get him something really sentimental for christmas...something that means a great deal to both of them. Not necessarily a gift that costs a great deal but something with a lot of thought behind it. Perhaps a book of Dylan Thomas poetry? I also thought about a photo frame with a picture of Sam in it to show that she wants him to be part of her life as well.

I think he'd get her something really fun but no idea what!

Ihearttc how about him getting her a Karaoke machine so they can duet whenever they like!

Love it Nappy. My once supportive husband who rolled his eyes and laughed at with me is slowly beginning to realise the obsession is not a flash in the pan one off. Having said that he has no idea that the programme is connected to Bath, somewhere we've never been, so it might be a runner Grin. Question of the day - is it wrong to buy your husband a night in a hotel for Christmas when its really for you to indulge in your OG / BA obsession interest? Smile

Rhubarb01 · 01/11/2014 14:23

The Christmas Market this year is from 27th November to 14th December. They have a website www.bathchristmasmarket.co.uk. (I honesty don't work for the tourist office or the above said organisation). Bath is beautiful at the best of times but its really nice with the market by the Abbey and Pump Rooms and they have choirs and bands etc entertaining people as well. It does get very busy and crowded, however.

SPOfficer · 01/11/2014 14:34

Nappy Molly's house is on Rochford Close which is just to the east of the Stadium. Did a little research a while backBlush

cherin · 01/11/2014 14:43

Bath is always worth a tour, no matter what!

cherin · 01/11/2014 14:44

My question is, in the meantime...what would CJ do when he's not captain anymore? I known plenty of security consultants ex army, but it's very much a desk job...mmmmhhh...

I know! Logistic director of some international relief charity? Sounds heroic enough for next series? :-)

cherin · 01/11/2014 14:52

(I just asked a question and gave an answer. Clear sign I am ready for asylum ;-)

Rhubarb01 · 01/11/2014 15:01

I'd also thought that CJ might have used his army experience to good effect in some sort of overseas charity or relief type work. He realises that you have to fix the small things to put the big things right and I thought it might be interesting to get them both working overseas on something like that. I thinks its been mentioned here or elsewhere that there is scope for Molly to be deployed as part of some international relief effort with UK forces particularly with a medical background. UK personnel are being deployed in Africa to help with the Ebola crisis. It needn't be that of course, it could be some other humanitarian effort related to civil war, famine etc. I'm sure they could come up with something that would give them both an interesting role.

klj78 · 01/11/2014 15:12

So there's now a 3rd chapter of "My Man" and apparently this author is also keeping a close eye on the goings on of this thread ;-)

I think Molly could achieve more in her medical career but sadly without formal qualifications it would be very difficult to reach the heights of doctor - not impossible but a bit of a long haul! Sadly, they did paint her as a bit of an academic dunce in OG even if we know she is really very bright. I can't believe she really left school with no qualifications at all not even at a low grade? Perhaps she does have something that could be a building block. Don't you have to at least a couple of GCSE's to join the army?

Rhubarb01 · 01/11/2014 15:55

Ok, I've answered my own question. You don't need qualifications to join the army or become a combat medic. So it must have been a good career choice for Molly, if you don't mind being shot at!

Rhubarb01 · 01/11/2014 15:56

Clarification - I'm getting as bad as cherin, you don't need qualifications to join as a private - obviously, officers do.

klj78 · 01/11/2014 16:01

According to the British Army website, you need GCSE maths and English at grade C to join as a combat medic. At the very least, if she didn't have those qualifications when she joined they would have got her through equivalency testing. Even 10 years ago, even infantry privates were encouraged to do GCSE equivalents for free through Learn Direct.

cherin · 01/11/2014 16:04

There was a scene in the pilot when she was doing math testing and looked slightly panicky...and the army trainer commented on that. But can't remember the comment! Eeehmmm, I am losing points today...
