crap I don't recall we ever knew why Shirley gave up Mick but I guess we'll also find out tomorrow night. I was also surprised Mick didn't recognise his own mother...I know it's been 30-odd years but still Hmm

What I found clunky about tonight's episode is Nick Cotton walking around the square in broad daylight. I know it's because the writers want to get Ian involved but it still seems a weird thing to do when he's supposed to be in hiding.

AGnu · 11/12/2014 22:32

Why would Mick recognise her? She's been gone since he was a baby!

I assume Shirley's not on his birth certificate, hence why she had to give birth in the caravan, so her mum could claim he was hers. I'm guessing Shirley was told he'd be better off without the stigma of being born out of wedlock or as the child of a teenage mother. Better for everyone, stiff upper lip, etc., etc.!

Yes, I really dislike Babe. Very manipulative, but then so is the rest of the family! Shirley with her one-liners that stop people in their tracks... & I think Mick was quite manipulative in turning up at the clinic. Yes, he said he didn't want her to have to go through it by herself but I'm not convinced that he didn't turn up in an attempt to guilt-trip her into changing her mind. Mostly because he was actually going to let her do it alone while he sat around in the waiting room! Hmm

Southeastdweller · 11/12/2014 22:35

Baby? I thought she left when he was about 8-10?

rockinrobintweet · 11/12/2014 22:36

the walking round the square thing was ridiculous. there seem to be loads of loos ends with eastenders at the moment. and just a handful of families having all the crap at once! how much more can the Carter's take in such a short space????

yes pp, i find aunt babe completely annoying and sly!

differentnameforthis · 12/12/2014 07:12

I have no idea why Shirley didn't bring him up? because only Shirley, her mum & the aunt knew that he was Shirley's. Shirley's dad doesn't know.

differentnameforthis · 12/12/2014 07:16

Mick's 'mum' left when he was little more than a toddler, iirc.

Mrsjayy · 12/12/2014 08:09

Mick was under 8 when the bath incident happened mum had gone by then. Good for tina chucking tosh out on her ear that was horrific.

CrapBag · 12/12/2014 14:33

Ah thankso for the answers. Makes a bit more sense now.

I think Lauren needs to cut Peter some slack. She's been in love with him for ages, he feels the same and wants to marry her but she disagrees with somesomething he was doing for his twin in some sort of attempt to protect her and Lauren doesn't want to know. Doesn't love him that much does she.

I love Shirley, I think she is great although I did really want her to give horrible Tosh what she deserved. I'mean not sure if Linda would have gone through with the abortion even if Mick wasn't there. She was never convinced.

The Nick thing was utterly ridiculous. How did no one see him wandering around accept Ian!! Utterly unbelievable.

Ian is a prick.

cogitosum · 12/12/2014 14:55

I really like nick as a comedy character.

Mrsjayy · 12/12/2014 15:03

We laughed when ian followed nick you see nick cotton why would you follow him Grin ilove nick and Mrs Doyle they are hilarious I hope they stick around

AGnu · 12/12/2014 16:48

I thought the bath incident happened when he was a toddler. He didn't remember it, just that he was scared of water. Tina had vague memories of it & she's a few years older. You'd think that at 8yo you'd remember a traumatic event like your 'sister' trying to drown you!

Mrsjayy · 12/12/2014 17:31

Yeah he was the new Christmas adverts on Facebook it looks good

Mrsjayy · 12/12/2014 17:33

There seems to be quite a big age gap between shirley and tina 12 years probably is there anymore carters

yesyestisme · 12/12/2014 20:31

Woahhhhh Phil and Sharon!!! Shock

Mrsjayy · 12/12/2014 20:38

Thanks for the image enders Shock

yesyestisme · 12/12/2014 20:40

And the noise! Good grief, the slurping Confused

Mrsjayy · 12/12/2014 20:44
AGnu · 12/12/2014 21:57

Grin We watched it on iPlayer & that was the still they chose to show at the end. DH & I were trying to have a conversation & he had to close the page because it was freaking him out!

No idea why they couldn't have just been in the middle of doing a puzzle together or just about to sit down for dinner. We didn't need that!

I felt a bit sorry for Shirley. Her mum was horrible to her & Babe wasn't much better! Sad

How sad for Mick that he thinks his 'mum' has forgotten just him out of all of her children!

Nick makes me laugh!

Donnadoon · 12/12/2014 22:38

Hello everyone
Has Ronnie had her baby yet?

Donnadoon · 12/12/2014 22:41

Also was just looking at the family tree
Wowzers I remember Zsa Zsa with the blue hair being friends with Fat Boy and co
Can't believe she's Tina's daughter
I wonder if she will be coming back
:)

yesyestisme · 12/12/2014 22:59

No, Ronnie is still pregnant. I'm guessing about 7 months?

It was a very sad episode for Shirley tonight, the secrets must be coming out soon.

I think Phil and Sharon were the 'comedy' element tonight. Sharon's legs are fab though considering her weird top half!

badRoly · 12/12/2014 23:03

The Phil/Sharon scene reminded me of Frank Butcher turning up at Pat's in nothing but a flashing bow tie...

CrapBag · 12/12/2014 23:13

Poor Shirley. She still seemed scared of her mum. And poor Mick thinking his mum has forgotten he existed. Doesn't this all come, out over Christmas along with the rape?

Was Babe really trying to protect Shirley? She always seems to manipulate situations, telling them all about Stan's illness, the Tina and Tosh situation and now her sister. Does she just want to be I control?

Thank god Ian stopped being a pillock for 5 minutes.

I want to know what Ben actually did. We know what he told Ian isn't right.

R4roger · 13/12/2014 06:50

But where was Sharon's son ?
and does that mean whatshername, Roxy is going to go off with stall holder bigamist and his daughter. she looked like he might, he had a good line didnt he, I will leave you as I cannot bear to see you and not have you.

Fakebook · 13/12/2014 08:43

I'd like to see Zsa Zsa return, it would be a perfect setting for her now.

Yesterday's episode was actually very good. Nick and Sharon and Phil were hilarious.
I think all the secrets are uncovered on Christmas so the rape, Shirley being mick's mum etc and more evidence for Lucy's murder. I've seen the trailer and it looks interesting.
