Tat on Cbeebies; a list

I love a lot of the stuff that pops up on Cbeebies, as does my 2 yr old boy, but there's also a lot of tat, IMHO.

TAT: shoddy animation, feeble and random storylines, too-silly voices, tedious stereotypes, inaccessible characters:
Waybuloo; Peter Rabbit; Octonauts (should be decent, they're trying really hard, but it's just annoying); Tree Fu Tom; Grandpa In My Pocket; Boj (what the hell is going on?); Balamory; Driver Dan's Story Train; Cloud Babies; Raa Raa; ZingZillas; The Ruddy Tweenies

DECENT: flaws more than overcome by intelligent writing, quality animation, characters you can like, proper stories:
Mike The Knight (despite the stupid dragons); Chuggington; Bob The Builder; Postman Pat (despite stupid Pat); Abney & Teal; Rastamouse; Little Robots; Baby Jake

Three shows on Cbeebies are PROPER QUALITY DECENT: Qpootle; Dinopaws; Timmy Time

Abney & Teal nearly makes it into my PQD list, but not quite.

Thanks.

melody needs to just STOP, IF I have to Danse Macabre ONE MORE TIME!

I have little people fans of Andy's dinosaur adventures and Swashbuckle in this house.

although swashbuckle frustrates me, back in my day they used an ACTUAL gunge tank on those things, not CGI...
God I sound oldGrin

Sigh...

Tat on Cbeebies; a list
Planetwaves · 17/10/2014 11:37

My great list: Sarah & Duck (amazing quality children's TV - great animation, clever, funny and sophisticated yet my very tiny DD is obsessed by it. "The Big Shop is closing in FIVE minutes!") Also good: Abney & Teal, Old Jack's Boat, Katie Morag, Night Garden (which has reluctantly won me over), What's the Big Idea? OK: Show Me Show Me, Mr Bloom, Waybuloo (despite irritating animation DD loves the "yogo"); Topsy and Tim (even if smug Topsy and Tim mum does make me want to scream); the new incarnations of the privatised Postman Pat, even if not a patch on the original Smile

Awful: pretty much everything else. Top prizes for awfulness: Kate and Mim-Mim - vapid rubbish; Everything's Rosie - teeth-grindingly irritating; Peter Rabbit. And anything involving James Corden (no, I don't "gotta love that bear" Angry)

Planetwaves · 17/10/2014 11:43

Oh and I forgot my other candidate for prime tat: Let's Play. Everyone who had anything to do with bringing that horror to the screen should feel thoroughly ashamed of themselves.

rednsparkley · 17/10/2014 11:54

Dire - Me Too, Waybuloo, Granpa in my Pocket, Kerwhizz, Let's Play, Get Squiggling, Swashbuckle, Baby Jake (gives me the absolute shudders) Charlie Bear

Decent stuff - Something Special, Abney & Teal, Night Garden, Teletubbies, absolutely LOVE Show Me, Show Me, it reminds me very much of Playschool

My youngest is nearly 4 now so soon I'll never have to watch any of these again - her favourite thing at the moment is Doc McStuffins on Disney, which is bearable

MadeInChorley · 17/10/2014 11:57

Good

Original Numtums (not the awful new long ones)
Octonauts - genuinely educational
Mr Bloom's Nursery
Most things with live presenters, even when they are annoying, are well thought out.
Tree Fu Tom
Balamory
Wooly & Tig
Katie Morag
(Seem to like the Scottish ones)

Detest

Mike The Night - no historical accuracy whatsoever and really bad animation style. I hate that the heads take up 50% of the character and the villagers all bow and scrape to Mike simply because he is a prince. Why are the Vikings made to be so stupid?! Dull stories and annoying voices.

Kate and Bim Bim (?) - bad American story lines redubbed into British English, bad animation.

Kerwhizz - it's "Quiz"!! Bad spelling, odd plastic presenter, utterly pointless concept, bad animation, neither educational nor entertaining.

BuckskinnedAstronaut · 17/10/2014 12:06

I like Let's Play. There, I said it.

mrstiggy · 17/10/2014 12:19

My youngest likes The Lingo Show, Sarah and Duck and Numberjacks. We only tend to watch it on iplayer so she's not watched everything on there. I agree that Me Too is awful, and Baby Jake is just frightening tbh. Might put her Octonauts on now to try.

neverletgojack · 17/10/2014 12:21

I hate 'I can cook'

Katie is theeeee most irritating person ever.
worse than Chris and poi

mrstiggy · 17/10/2014 12:22

Oh and it's a standing joke with my family that if they have Cbeebies on and Grandpa In My Pocket starts they shout me to come in and watch 'my favourite programme'. My grumpy reaction to that stupid pointless irritating programme is legendary.

slippermaiden · 17/10/2014 12:32

I can cope with any programme except zingzillas and waybulloo, they are both terrible, luckily my children don't like them either!

neverletgojack · 17/10/2014 12:34

here Eadie McCreed.... no one gives a shit what house you are going toGrinAngry Grin

OooOooTheMonkey · 17/10/2014 12:37

How can you say Raa Raa is TAT?!?! Best thing on CBeebies. Closely followed by Rastamouse.

Balamory and Show Me Show Me on the other hand are possibly the most annoying programmes I have ever seen. Oh and Granny Murray too Angry

Teladi · 17/10/2014 12:38

My DD's favourites are I Can Cook and Mr Maker.

We both like The Lingo Show, Katie Morag, and Melody.

Let's Play and Everything's Rosie are rubbish.

I wish she liked Small Potatoes and Abney & Teal, yet she does not.

neverletgojack · 17/10/2014 12:39

SMALL POTATO'SGrin
my fav hahhaa

robotnikchair · 17/10/2014 12:46

My 2 year old DD is obsessed with Swashbuckle at the moment, she won't watch anything else ("bucka buckle!") and given there are only two new episodes at the weekend I'm sick of seeing them. I agree with the poster who said about the CGI ship's mess - what a cop out! Love Sarah & Duck; hate bloody Grandpa in my pocket, its painful.

PinkSquash · 17/10/2014 13:27

Loved: Swashbuckle, The Lingo Show, Sarah and Duck, Numtums (proper ones with the counting flamingos), Old Jacks boat and Abney and Teal. Oh and DipDap, simple good humour.

Most hated: ITNG, Waybaloo, Zingzillas, Boj, I Can cook and pretty much everything else.

HouseAtreides · 17/10/2014 14:07

We love Sarah And Duck, Woolly and Tig, Bing, Show Me Show Me and best of all, Dipdap. We have them all recorded and we DS will shriek with laughter at all of them. When I use the Sky+ at any time he screams "DIPDAAAAAAAAAAAPPP!" because he thinks I'm putting it on for him.

Hated: Grandpa in my Pocket, Mr Maker (purely because he cuts out little shapes from the CENTRE of the card!! So wasteful!),Tweenies (if you're going to put something so old on, make it Come Outside), Peter Rabbit (soft rock soundtrack? WTAF?)
Anything that was once good but has been re-done in cheap CGI can get bent. On any channel. (I'm looking at you, Thomas)

PeterParkerSays · 17/10/2014 14:14

As it hasn't been mentioned, I presume that Come Outside isn't currently on the air? It was my favourite on CBeebies by far, and was faintly interesting when you were watching it on playback for the umpteenth time.

And old postman Pat, where they had storms and found steam trains but didn't have bloody helicopters.

DS's move on to Channel 5 now, and dear God the adverts. Any rubbish on CBeebies has to be better than them....

ShadowStar · 17/10/2014 14:35

Hang on...

The gunge in the Swashbuckle ships mess isn't real? Shock

i feel cheated now!

PinkSquash · 17/10/2014 18:10

Ooh, Come Outside with Auntie Mabel, that was a great show, it used to be on when I was little.

Springheeled · 18/10/2014 18:20

Loved the Tweenies. The Xmas DVD is played every year here...
Something Special, Come Outside, Show Me Show Me and Mr Maker were all favourites with dcs (and me) and Charlie and Lola.
Totally rubbish: the Granny Murray thing (shudder) and Chuggington.
Ds used to adore Big Cook, Little Cook!!! Why?!

ISpyPlumPie · 18/10/2014 20:16

Another vote for Alphablocks being great. DS1 started recognising letters and sounds through watching it when he was 2. He's now 4 and read me one of their superphonics books before bed tonight. I think the way each letter has it's own little character just made it all click for him from very early on.

TeacupDrama · 19/10/2014 15:41
