although slightly enjoyed the family dynamics going on last night, unfortunately DD's favourite programme and in fact Guardian seems to recommend it Hmm

Oh and Mandy, that's hilarious. My DH went for a run yesterday whilst I supposedly got on with some stuff in the house and asked how Cpt James was when he got home!

mandy214 · 19/10/2014 16:13

evans I think you probably have a point (well, several) but I am ignoring them just 'cos I'm a hopeless romantic Grin.

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 19/10/2014 16:15

Oh, my apologies - thought we were all permitted to discuss a "Programme", which would normally include a toryline, wouldn't it?. Didn't realise it was just a love-fest for Capt James. Thought it was "Telly-Addicts", not the Ben Aldridge Appreciation Society. Perhaps there should be a new stand-alone thread for that Grin

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 19/10/2014 16:15

storyline !!

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 19/10/2014 16:16

Mandy - Thank you for not taking it too seriously!! Grin

mandy214 · 19/10/2014 16:26

Smurf love it! My H life will 'get back to normal' at 10pm tonight. Little does he know that my addiction will go on for sometime.

I'm exactly the same as a previous poster - I can't remember the last time I was this affected by a TV programme. I only watched it last week's episode (then caught up via bbciplayer again and again) but I have spent every spare moment this week re-watching it!!

Smurfingreat · 19/10/2014 16:46

Good idea Evans, only it would be the Cpt James appreciation thread, not the Ben Aldridge appreciation thread. Not the same thing at all....Grin

Same here Mandy I have turned into a hormonal teenager again, it's actually slightly disturbing, albeit fun! I have pre-ordered the box set on Amazon, so I have hard copies for back up!Blush

EvansOvalPiesYumYum · 19/10/2014 18:16

Oh, okay. So when I said "Capt James (as a character) is a bastard and ladees shouldn't be taken in by a pretty face" - then that was actually a perfectly legitimate point, because I was talking about Capt James, although I was made to believe otherwise.). And I'm not permitted to talk about the programme in general. And I can't refer to him by his RL name either. Confused

Would someone (Smurfin) please be so kind as to provide a list of rules, telling us lay-people what discussions we may or may not be permitted to join in with. And is there an unwritten rule as to how accurate a drama is, before it becomes a soap-opera, and are we allowed to pass comment on that (at the moment, it seems not) and are we permitted to say if we think an actor is good, or not?

This all seems a little complicated for a supposed 'friendly' chat about a crap Sunday evening drama, which I believe was intended to be based (largely) on fact. I used to look forward to a Sunday evening settling down to a good drama - seems a shame if we're not allowed to discuss it unless discussions conform with certain "Secret 7" -type club rules.

Downton Abbey, here I come. (Oh no! - holds head in hands) Sad

I'll leave you to your hormones Grin

BrodiesBabe · 19/10/2014 18:20

So glad to find I am not alone in my drooling devotion to Captain James! The man is just ... GUHHHH!!!!!

I am longing for and dreading tonight's episode equally. Really dreading it in fact. Do you think it's too late for the Beeb to change what I fear they may do to him? Maybe they had a few different endings filmed and they would only choose which one to go for after seeing who the women of Britain want! I think it's pretty clear by now! Twitter adores him too. Please, please, please let him live and let Molly and him at least have it off in spectacular style. They haven't really even had a proper snog yet! I want maximum Captain James snoggage!

littledorrits · 19/10/2014 18:25

Oh Evans lighten up FGS!

You've missed the spirit of the thread.
Go back to Downton or whatever you are into.

Smurfingreat · 19/10/2014 18:36

Sorry if I've offended you or made you feel unwelcome Evans. I was merely trying to point out that despite your admittedly valid points, you are unlikely to get anything resembling a sensible reply on this thread. As Mandy said we are all wilfully ignoring such things so as to indulge in our ridiculous bordering on obsessive crushes on Cpt James (not Ben Aldridge)...

cherin · 19/10/2014 18:51

Evans, agree with you, but it's not his fault, it's the lousy script!! ;-)
He's as charming as he was ever portrayed in episodes 1-3, problem is done silly writer decided to give it a twist (feeling culpable of excessive soppyness?), and invented a wife that even Smurf was aware of, but was never mentioned earlier in months of deployment.
;-)

DustBunnyFarmer · 19/10/2014 18:57

Evans - I agree it is utter toot, but I am finding it strangely watchable despite my (many) reservations.

Smurfingreat · 19/10/2014 19:07

Can anyone produce a 24 style countdown clock until 9.00 tonight?

IssyStark · 19/10/2014 19:18

evans I don't think James knowingly set out to deceive. He was in a very awkward position: under Army Regs he shouldn't be having any sort of an intimate relationship (consummated or not) with anyone under his command and he was trying to adhere to that by refusing to discuss any potential relationship with Dawes until they were back home and presumably they would reassigned to different units.

annabanana19 · 19/10/2014 19:22

Who cares about the script. We just want Capt James.........shirtless...just wearing his pants....

Grin
annabanana19 · 19/10/2014 19:26

Holy shit!

furcoatbigknickers · 19/10/2014 19:43

Grin what a pic!

brunette123 · 19/10/2014 19:46

I took this photo as I danced in front of him in my bikini - sorry ladies he is mine

mandy214 · 19/10/2014 20:12

I do accept some culpability in that the original post asked for comments on the programme as a whole, how realistic it was, and its degenerated into a bunch of middle aged women posting suggestions on fan fiction, photographs and youtube videos of a gorgeous, authoritative, rugged man character in a drama. Sorry Evans Grin. I am sticking my head in the sand as to the character flaws / continuity issues / issues with uniform, weapons, storyline realism!

Ilovelblue · 19/10/2014 20:24

We need to explore the "time share" possibility and I think we agreed he needs an older woman! (I'm definitely in the queue here). I hope the BBC keep an eye on forums such as these then they will realise we need more of Captain James/Ben Aldridge and realise what a hit he has been. We definitely need to get him on one of the chat shows. There are 10,000 likes on Facebook, not sure about Twitter as it's not really my thing. I am watching last week's episode (ahem, I think for about the eighth time in total and the second time today) to get ready for 9pm. I am having palpitations and it could be hormones, too much coffee (not Nespresso ladies, it's a bit strong for me, good old Columbian is fine for me) or the fact I worked too hard in the garden this afternoon. Anyway, counting down..... 40 minutes to go.

neverletgojack · 19/10/2014 20:51

10 minutes ladies

ten minutes

Smurfingreat · 19/10/2014 20:58
