I believe it's back on Sunday. Hurray!

I really hope though that they focus more on Edith and less on Mary and her boring, all look the samey, suitors.

Bless Mosley for refusing to believe the worst of Miss Baxter

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/09/2014 21:53

Flirting with Isis, never mind with Cora Grin

minibmw2010 · 28/09/2014 22:01

I think 'Tony' is trying to set Mary up to lose her reputation and force her to marry him even if she doesn't want to

tribpot · 28/09/2014 22:06

But it kind of seems like Mary wants to marry him anyway (god knows why) so would he need to? I'm not sure which of them is more intent on testing their sexual compatibility before they get married?

Not many decent one-liners from Violet tonight, big shame. And clearly we are going to have to live through yet another Bates-is-a-murderer storyline in someway, unless Anna is going to be falsely accused or something. Yawn.

The usual arch knowingness about the wireless being a fad and why would anyone want to sit and listen to someone's voice being broadcast to them.

smokeandfluff · 28/09/2014 22:07

Even if she does lose her reputation it doesn't mean she has to marry tony. She could just stay at downton.

Edith seems to see her child more than mary and tom see theirs. And ediths child looks at least three!

tribpot · 28/09/2014 22:07

Oh and I am totally bored by the Baxter storyline, are we really meant to care enough about one of the more recent servants that we want the 'is she a wrong 'un' cliffhanger spread over quite so many episodes? It's been going on since she arrived!

Annarose2014 · 28/09/2014 22:31

Felt quite annoyed with Edith tonight. Yes, its her baby....but the vibes coming off Mrs. Farmer were unmistakeable. And Mr. Farmer is no prize. He doesn't owe Edith anything! Its like he's giving her feelings preference over his wifes!

BOOORED with the dead valet story, I thought we had moved on but snoooooze......

I think I love Moseley & Baxter.....Blush

Cariad007 · 28/09/2014 22:48

I think I read somewhere that there will be a wedding in the xmas special. I thought it would be Mary and one of her suitors but now I think it'll be Moleseley and Baxter!

tribpot · 28/09/2014 22:59

Yes - Edith is being completely over the top and typically unfair to the feelings of Marigold's adoptive mother. Plus it must seem bonkers to Mrs Farmer, and/or highly suspicious.

A Moseley Baxter wedding would be lovely - certainly better than Mary and one of her Identisuitors.

eddiemairswife · 28/09/2014 23:02

Thought Lord Grantham seems very grumpy nowadays. I was surprised the village shop stocked contraceptives. In the 1960s you could only get diaphragms from the Family Planning Clinic, so goodness knows what happened in the 1920s.

Nancy66 · 28/09/2014 23:04

it's so unrealistic. There is just no way that a servant like Carson would argue and disagree publicly with his master!

SirChenjin · 28/09/2014 23:05

Baxter and Moseley or Mrs Hughes and Carson? I'd like to see both of those couples married Smile

As long as it isn't Branson and that miserable schoolteacher - can't take to her at all

Hiawatha44 · 28/09/2014 23:07

Mr Carson and Mrs Hughes do make me smile they are rather sweet. Its seems like a long time for a witness to suddenly come forward about Greene's death/murder. I have a feeling its all going to blow up in Edith's face the truth is going to come out but with no happy ending. I'm hoping the Baxter storyline comes to some sort of conclusion next week and it can be forgotten about I do hate the way so many storylines get dragged out so much especially when they're years between series not just weeks.

LuluJakey1 · 28/09/2014 23:09

Surely it wasn't the village shop! I think Anna must have gone into Northallerton or York. They didn't know her in the shop.

Lord Grantham has become an old bore.

I think Mr Farmer is going to turn into a nasty piece of work but Lady Edith's fellow will re- appear from wherever he has been and it will all come right in the end.

I haveno idea what all these men see in Mary- she is poker faced, icy and dull.

AbsintheMakesTheHeart · 28/09/2014 23:12

Thought it was particularly bonkers that the first people whose opinions Lord G sought about the King's speech on the wireless were Carson and Mrs Hughes, rather than members of his family.

LuluJakey1 · 28/09/2014 23:12

Mr Bates is another dull as ditchwater character. He is hardly in it at all and he and Anna never seem connected to me. He'll be best off out of it.

Thomas has warmed my heart a little. Lady Violet makes me smile but that is about it this series. Richard E Grant holds possibilities as a flirtation for Cora- who must be bored silly with Robert these days.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 28/09/2014 23:20

Yes, although it always amuses me when she talks to him and it sounds like she's calling him 'Rabbit'.

I did like Rose sidling around the subject of a wireless and him saying "no" before she'd actually asked. I remember conversations like that with my parents.

SirChenjin · 28/09/2014 23:26

I missed the bit when Anna went shopping - I thought it was for a condom (which in those days were made of thick rubber and designed to be washed out and reused!)

MargotLovedTom · 28/09/2014 23:46

I can't look at Tony Gillingham without seeing Will from The Inbetweeners sans specs.

BranchingOut · 29/09/2014 06:43

I thought that it was a particularly odd episode. Lord G was being ignoble to everyone. Lots of bitty action all over the place....

Let's hope they are setting up some good storylines for the rest of the series.

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 29/09/2014 12:53

And the part where the Dowager and Lord 6 think they must have a wireless because the King has condoned it... Proper real aristocracy, the real titles and families going back hundreds of years, see the Royal Family as a bunch of middle class, new money foreign upstarts with no manners.

tribpot · 29/09/2014 13:01

I don't think they're a particularly ancient family, are they? They don't mix in very aristocratic circles.

MorrisZapp · 29/09/2014 13:07

This series is wilfully boring. Loved the bit when Sir Whatsit was waxing philosophical with Carson about the war memorial, and a wee widow popped up and gave her tuppence worth. Acorn Antiques stuff. I'll go upstairs and take my hat off.

BlueChampagne · 29/09/2014 14:18

Not convinced by all this frank talk about sex either, given the time period!
Plus a lot of rehashing of plot lines.

yesbutnobut · 29/09/2014 14:24

I think it's building up to Carson/Hughes wedding - the way they were talking this episode.

Do you think Mary will be pregnant? Anna left without the instructions for the diaphragm and I'm wondering if Mary gets it wrong and ends up pregnant (Cherie Blair and her 'contraceptive device springs to mind!)?

Totally agree the Lady Edith storyline is going to end in tears!!
